Frankie Collins new scrimmage highlights - STUD

Submitted by Champeen on October 8th, 2020 at 9:24 AM

Frankie Collins just had 3 scrimmages and highlights are below.  Kid continues to blow my mind.  By far the most athletic PG we have had in a while (since GG?).  I previously stated i think Frankie is underrated at #60 composite (#73 247sports) - i would have him somewhere between 25 and 50.  Well this kid continues to shine and is probably very close to 5 star, if not 5 star talent.

At 6' and doing these things?  Kid is friggin' awesome.  Enjoy .......

I'd include "Bball Target/Recruit" in title of situations like this.  When you read in context one can assume, but you should really let folks this is about basketball.  If the name is in question most assume football, particularly in the fall when folks would be looking for practice footage.

Who sees PG in the original post & thinks football?

I didn't suggest you'd assume football from the post.  I suggested you'd assume football from the title.  Assumptions aside its a good rule of thumb to put the sport in the title if there's a potential for question, particularly when it's the offseason.

I love when people complain about content, especially when they aren't offering any. Who is Frankie Collins? Duh.......

Probably the people that don't regularly follow basketball recruiting, which I'd guess is a healthy number of folks.

I don't think MGoStrength's opinion is unnecessarily harsh.  It's just a gentle reminder of best practices for posting content.  I, too, wish that just a *little* more info would be included in many titles and posts.

I religiously follow UM hoops and know who Frankie Collins is, but a lot of people might not.   And the GG embedded within the OP is also somewhat cryptic.   I'm old enough to have witnessed Gary Grant and understand that he's a true Michigan hoops legend, but a lot of people - especially younger UM fans - might not.

It seems pretty clear he's making a suggestion, and a valid one, rather than complaining.  Not everyone follows basketball recruiting.

This is not the OP's fault that you don't know who a Top-75 Michigan Commit is. He also mentions he is a PG in the post.

In the amount of time it took for you to write your post, you could've watched the film and seen it was a basketball player.

And you say that in the fall folks would be looking for "practice footage" of a football player? No, they would be looking at game film (even now) and scrimmage footage would almost certainly be a basketball player

I did and it's great.  I UV the post for providing the context.  That doesn't mean it wouldn't be helpful for folks to know the sport before clicking on the title.

Now you're just being argumentative.  I'm not sure if you're mad that everyone doesn't follow basketball recruiting or what.  My comment was not rude or insensitive.  It was a recommendation to help improve the post.  Don't be so sensitive.  Of course people would be looking for scrimmage footage of football.  People wouldn't be expecting game footage of football yet because football hasn't played any games.

Read the OP. Not just the title, the body of the post tells you everything you need to know. It's really not that difficult, unless you are looking for something to bitch about. I've been guilty of not summarizing a original post effectively, and this isn't one of those times.

I don't think it's difficult nor do I think he's bitching.  He's making a recommendation that would improve the post.  If you follow basketball recruiting you know exactly who that is, if not you're probably a bit confused by the title.

If you don’t know who Frankie Collins is, then that’s a you issue.

I'd say that's an issue for anyone that doesn't follow basketball recruiting, which I'd guess is a decent chunk of folks.

It blows my mind when people demand what sport a commit is in posts when it’s due to your own ignorance or lack of caring

You must have a different dictionary than the rest of us.  I'm not sure "I'd include" would fall in the definition of demanding.  You're taking a recommendation that would help everyone and turning it into an argument for no reason.  Don't be so sensitive.

If this was a post about a basketball recruit that we're going after and isn't discussed much, then sure, include "basketball" in the title. But this a PG commit who has been committed for months, had a proper "Hello" post and has been discussed sporadically for a while. Do people need to put "football commit" in a post about JJ McCarthy? Obviously not.

I absolutely love his athleticism and ability to get to the rim.  Throwing lobs to a 6-foot point guard?  Insane!  There definitely isn't a recent comparison for him and the GG one is tempting.....but let's pump the brakes a little.

The reason he isn't ranked higher is partially because of his height (i.e. not much of an NBA prospect as compared to if he were 6'4").  The other reasons are sort of found on this highlight tape.  I saw one jump shot in the entire thing....meanwhile Hardy made several long threes and a nice pull-up midrange shot.  Additionally, for a PG, there's only a couple of nice passes to set up teammates.

I love the kid and I'm really excited to see him next season.  I also know this was just some scrimmage games and these are just highlights.  But I'd also love to see highlights of him working on his jump shot or setting up his teammates to truly diversify his game - especially when he's playing with another stud.

I know 3 of our 4 recruits are going to be crazy-good dunkers from their highlights and instagram posts.  I have only seen one of them actually make more than a jump shot or two.

Here to provide a bit of context. 2 of these 3 scrimmages were played against vastly inferior competition. Fans can sort of get a feel for this by the type of defense played by the opposition - if the opposition is playing zone defense, that's a pretty strong indicator that they don't stack up physically (see the Miami Heat). You should be looking closest at the highlights between the 2:15 and 4:15 marks, where Frankie and Coronado were squaring off against American Fork (UT).

American Fork is definitely inferior athletically, but they are extremely structured on offense with decent size in the frontcourt. American Fork features 2022 top 100 player Jaxon Kohler (#22) - I viewed him live in Dallas with this same exact team during my Harrison Ingram trip. Kohler is a better version of Will Tschetter in my opinion. An undersized big that will have problems defensively, but Kohler may very well have the best footwork in the country while having an outstanding jumper.

Interesting note - Kohler played with Jaden Hardy at Coronado last year, and let's just say those two don't necessarily see eye to eye. That game definitely had a personal rivalry tone to it.

Frankie is a great athlete in the open court, but hard to take much from those highlights in my opinion because he isn't facing a set defense for the most part. I plan to see Frankie later this month if things work out.

Useful insight about the competition! What I like so much about these highlights, though, is what they show about Collins's physical makeup -- not just his vertical explosiveness, but his ability to change directions and his physical strength. This is a strong and agile dude. Who knows how it will translate, but I feel like he has the ability to be a special finisher around the rim, height notwithstanding.

Great points - I actually live in a neighboring city to AF, and that school (among a couple others here in Utah County) is basically a BYU pipeline. They've had the same teams growing up and eventually all stick together and head to the same school. Some talented teams through the years. Not necessarily vastly superior athletes, but dudes that have been playing together forever.

Ummm...you do realize that the hilarious Gavin Groninger reference is because "GG" was included in the OP without further context?

If you had used "KG" to refer to Kevin Gaines, I assume most people above a certain age threshold would've instantly thought of almost Michigan signee Kevin Garnett.

I think his game is almost identical to Steve Francis. In his other highlights with more dribbling he has the same crossovers and hesitations with the same plus plus athleticism.
