Former Michigan and current OSU coach Greg Mattison bashes Michigan culture andrefers to OSU as a "business" when talking to top Michigan and OSU 2021 target
Quote from JC Latham:
"When I first went to Ohio State back in the spring time for practice, [Coach Mattison] was the first guy I talked to because I knew him right off the bat," Latham told Trieu last weekend. "He was telling me how different Ohio State's program was and how their facilities, practices, culture, all that was a lot better at Ohio State than Michigan. He was really telling me at their school, it's a business and they ran it strict to a T. He was telling me, 'if you're here, I can see you getting developed ten times better than I could see at any other school.' So he was kind of really just breaking the ice with me when I first visited."

Michigan recruits as well, if not better, than it has historically. The data supports this.
Whatever the merit of Steve’s comments the fact is that UM recruiting results are good as they ever have been.

Could you explain to me why you have this super aggressive belief that Michigan could never possibly do better than what they did in the past?

He still thinks its 1992 and that we've never been a perennial national title contender even when we were. 9-3 is fine when you're Iowa, Wisconsin, Penn State or Sparty. It shouldn't be fine for the WINNINGEST PROGRAM IN COLLEGE FOOTBALL HISTORY.

Get ready for a hot take:
I don't like Greg Mattison

Mattison can burn in hell with George Perles. (Is this an appropriate thread for bashing Perles, because I consciously avoided shitting on him in the RIP post.)

Mattison is a snake.

Pretty simple too me, get a QB and running back that play and are of 1st round NFL caliber players something we haven’t had in years and the recruiting gap would shrink to nearly even.

Ohio State is the obvious hurdle. All this other banter is just folks whining. Michigan beats OSU and the noise goes away.

Michigan is more concerned with off the field activities, such as the overseas trips. Even though this does not help winning "the game", Michigan feels it is educational for the student athlete.

"a business" ...as in we pay our players...er, i mean "people", in cash ...or tats

Prove it.

cooler brownies anyone?

Michigan didn't win a national championship until after Greg Mattison left Michigan.

In the OSU business, Poindexter takes your online classes for you, cause you ain't here to play skool.
College football is less and less fun every day.

A particular problem when you consider that UM spends about 50% more on recruiting than OSU does.
January 8th, 2020 at 9:54 PM ^
It makes sense that you spend more when you’re disorganized.
January 8th, 2020 at 6:06 PM ^
So we have a 17 year old kid telling us what a coach supposedly told him, and we're assuming he's accurate, that OSU recruits better than Michigan. This is not news.
January 8th, 2020 at 7:20 PM ^
I am sure Michigan has the money to hire additional analysts or people to help the coaching staff with recruiting behind the scenes. Too many times Michigan seems unorganized.

I hope that Greg Mattison is looking for a retirement home in lovely Columbus, Ohio, because he is dead to Ann Arbor.

To hell with that guy.

There’s so much BS in the air these days but if anyone loves Benedict Arnold and trusts his words that’s on them. But I’d like to see what kind$ business it is that he’s mentioning.

I'm not surprised to read this.

Greg Mattison is a bitch.

"... And that's why you don't go to Ohio State, Lawrence."

I read it as, "We're all business when it comes to football, but nothing else."

Michigan culture deserves to be bashed. It's entitled and elitist.

If you think "Michigan" isn't a business, you're dreaming.
