Former FSU head coach Willie Taggart at Michigan hockey game

It's Happening! Maybe?
November 14th, 2019 at 7:42 PM ^
He will be on the staff next year
November 14th, 2019 at 7:50 PM ^
Doubtful. He'll be looking for a coordinator or HC position and we probably won't have any available.
November 14th, 2019 at 9:07 PM ^
Gattis and his portable home security system would like a word.
November 14th, 2019 at 10:14 PM ^
He's not here just because he likes the ice and snow.
November 14th, 2019 at 11:01 PM ^
Our QB’s want to learn another new scheme. They think one revamp per year is normal.
November 15th, 2019 at 6:36 AM ^
I don't know why you're getting downvoted so badly. I guess everyone wants Gattis fired? That'd be dumb as hell. Taggart absolutely could get a coordinator position at least if he wants to. It's also possible he may be on staff if he just happens not to like any particular offer for whatever reason or wants to take a year somewhat more off.
November 15th, 2019 at 12:29 PM ^
Likely to be an analyst. Taggert is close to the Harbaugh family. Ties go way back to high school days.
November 14th, 2019 at 7:44 PM ^
Looks like he is there with Jack Harbaugh who coached him at Western Kentucky. Not surprised he would hang around at Michigan until he gets back on his feet.
I doubt he ends up on the coaching staff though IMO. Maybe an analyst for a year, but I would think a Group of 5 program would come calling with a HC position soon. He is in no rush to find a job as he is getting PAID by FSU like Butch Jones which allows him to be picky in his next move.
November 14th, 2019 at 7:53 PM ^
He will be on staff next year book it
November 14th, 2019 at 7:56 PM ^
Michigan would have to fire an offensive coach to do it. Unless Jay Harbaugh, Ben McDaniels, or Sherrone Moore is out, I don't see it happening. And a lot of high profile head coaches don't take a significant demotion that is not at least a coordinator, especially in their first year out. Taggart is most likely looking to get another HC gig in the future.
I could see him in an analyst role similar to Butch Jones at Alabama, but I don't see him in an on-field assistant coaching role.
November 14th, 2019 at 11:07 PM ^
i dont think it would be out of the question to see Mcdaniels and/or Jaybaugh making a move to the NFL with their connections. Taggart in any capacity would be gold just for recruiting ability.

I feel for the guy and realize why dumbo fisher bailed. That program was a shit can.
November 14th, 2019 at 8:06 PM ^
lol a guy with a $17 million buyout getting back on his feet. I think he’ll be okay. I don’t think Old Willie is going to be couchsurfing for too long.
November 14th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
Metaphorically speaking for his career if I have to spell it out. Like most head football coaches, he probably feels he got a raw deal and is looking for another head coaching gig.
November 14th, 2019 at 8:46 PM ^
That's good because hes currently crashing on my couch
November 14th, 2019 at 8:30 PM ^
Jack Harbaugh really lives life to the fullest.
November 14th, 2019 at 9:15 PM ^
Yeah. I can only hope my retirement years are as full as his.
November 14th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
He has been known to attack each day with an enthusiasm unknown to mankind.
November 14th, 2019 at 9:23 PM ^
If you listen to the AED podcast you know that Willie is practically an adopted son to Jack. I'm sure they find a position for him if he wants it.
November 14th, 2019 at 9:58 PM ^
I don't have a link, but I recall Jim previously referring to Willie as "like a brother." I don't think its a given that he ends up on staff here, but he's clearly very close to the Harbaugh family.

Nobody gets paid better to be an ex-head coach than Charlie Weis.

They would probably wait until he picks a college. Michigan walk-on?
November 14th, 2019 at 8:11 PM ^
This is the smile of a man who is thinking about all the ways he can spend $17 million.
November 14th, 2019 at 8:14 PM ^
Very cool to have him at the game, regardless of if he plans on joining our staff in any capacity. Not a bad way to spend a Thursday night.

I can see him landing an analyst gig. First assignment: Scout OSU. HARD.
November 14th, 2019 at 9:29 PM ^
We need a better RB coach... Just saying
November 14th, 2019 at 9:45 PM ^
Yeah we can’t recruit at RB and our backs are all terrible. Look at the UFRs - constantly missing holes and not getting yards after contact. The blocking is terrible. I mean name the last time we had a freshman tailback who was a borderline five star and stepped in day one with great pass pro skills and patience and vision. I charbonnan’t think of one. And don’t get me started on these converted LBs in the running back room. More like Hassan No Thankskins! I tell ya we gotta get us a real RB coach and THEN we will smash OSU and take down Bama and whoever else comes our way. YEAH!
This is sarcasm. RB is not the issue with this team. I boo your take.
November 14th, 2019 at 10:15 PM ^
Get off the UFR stuff. It’s great but it doesn’t come close to what Urban does for BTN and Fox.
November 14th, 2019 at 10:16 PM ^
I’m tired of the jay harbaugh hate. Higdon becomes our first 1000 yard rusher since 2011 last year. This year ZC sets the freshmen record for rushing td’s while also being outstanding in pass pro.. and Hassan has far exceeded expectations. In one of the biggest wins of the Harbaugh era we rush for over 300 yards, but we don’t don’t have a good rb coach, got it.
November 15th, 2019 at 1:58 PM ^
Jackson was one of the best...
Lil Harbaugh has yet to prove that he can get the job done with any consistency.
ONE GAME...does not qualify a good RB coach. It was a good showing, but ND choked early then never recovered; same issue as Michigan, we turtle as soon as shit starts to go South.
If M runs all over MSU this weekend, then I'll start to put some faith in the run game and lil Harbaugh. I also want to see him do it against OSU.
November 14th, 2019 at 11:12 PM ^
Jay seems to be coming into his own as a coach. If you want a hot take, fire it at the QB coach. I don’t know if he’s responsible for Shea’s huge regression, but he’s definitely not been able to stop it.
November 14th, 2019 at 9:40 PM ^
Jim's bailing for the NFL is coming to fruition. Willie is going to take over as HC, and live in Jim's old house and live next door to Ma and Pa Harbaugh and they wont be losing a son.
