Florida football game question
I was flipping back and forth with the Nebraska/Florida game last night and I noticed that #1 for Florida was playing the game in a regular pair of shorts....Did anyone else notice this? At first I thought I was seeing things, but the guy was just straight up wearing a pair of shorts, no pads, nothing. How is that even legal?

Yeah I'm pretty sure he was wearing football pants but just rolled up above the knee and definitely without some of the required pads.

I don't remember the exact context, but in hs, right after that movie came out a bunch of us were lifting weights and a dude pulled down his pants and did that. We were all like WTF dude? It was creepy as all get out. ...and we all got out of there.

Florida was a clusterf*k last night. I didn’t notice the shorts thing, probably because it was lost in the sea of other basic things Florida couldn’t do correctly. Probably the worst moment was stopping Utah on a critical third down, only to then be flagged for a five-yard equipment infraction on the punt for having two players wearing #3 on the field simultaneously. (Utah of course then scored a TD on the ensuing series to take control of the game)

Yes, Florida shot themselves in the foot repeatedly in that game. Actually outgained Utah 346 to 270. I wonder if that means that "if" they can clean up the mistakes they'll be decent as Utah is a solid team. Then again, Utah had their backup QB in.

No Run game (13 yards) for FL and Mertz was sacked 6(?) times... seems like they have some serious OLine issues. Not a great recipe for success especially in the SEC.
Overall I thought Mertz looked like a serviceable QB. The Pick was due to a hot read to avoid a sack that the WR wasn't ready for. Bounced off his hands and right to the defense. Mertz was the entirety of the FL offense. Not a great situation there.
Also, both teams combined to go 4/26 on third down. That doesn't bode well for either team. Utah better hope things improve with the starting QB. That said they looked like the better team to me even with the back up QB in.

Florida being incompetent is fun because I root against teams that pull away big recruits from Michigan, not the players themselves necessarily. Not sure it will matter, but Florida going 5-7 this year can only help put the thought in guy's minds that they should reconsider and flip late.
