Fitzgerald Toussaint arrested for drunk driving [EDIT: Fitz suspended indefinitely by Hoke]
If he lives on campus, why the hell is he driving to downtown Ann Arbor? Bus, cab or walk FERGODSAKES!!!!
poop
Fitz has not been convicted of a crime. This is also apparently his first offense so let's wait for details to come out before hanging him out to dry. At worst, I see this as a 2-game suspension.
I don't think people here are hanging Fitz out to dry. But, in any case, the reaction you're seeing isn't predicated upon his guilt or innocence, it's based on the fact that Fitz will now almost certainly be on the bench for the Alabama game.
Unless the article came out of someone's ass, if he gets off it will be on a technicality. It seems pretty clear cut he was pulled over behind the wheel and blew over the limit. So yeah, he'll be suspended for at least a couple games.
(edit, meant as reply to geewhiz)
How is anybody rushing to judgment? There's really no easy way around this: his BAC was above the legal limit for driving, he got in a car and drove somewhere. End of story. That is one of the dumbest things anyone could do. There is no measure of leniency to wait for additional facts to come out.
Pulled over in downtown Ann Arbor.
Are. You. Shitting. Me.
It could be a totally different Fitzgerald Toussaint! Wait, shit nevermind. DAMN FITZ, WHAT THE HELL!?
It's my fault. I make one joke about Penn State and this news breaks like an hour later.
I was all like :) to go to Dallas now I'm all like :(
Embarassing. Kick Fitz off the team - I'm entirely serious.
If you cannot handle the responsibility of being Michigan's starting running back, especially with a game vs. the defending national champion looming, then go find some I-AA program to pay for your scholarship.
RBs are a dime a dozen (whether they are elite, remains to be seen).
Hope Hoke brings the iron fist.
I'm guessing innocent until proven guilty means nothing to you...
Your optimism is admirable, but cops don't usually get this one wrong. Unless he gets off on technicality, he will be found guilty; and even if he does get off on a technicality, he's still guilty of being an idiot and hurting the team.
That's what all the Paterno apologists are saying too.
You haz it.
Glad this post has a lower score than the one below decriminalizing drunk driving and commending Toussaint.
This is not Penn State. We can take responsibility for people at our university who do not live up to expectations.
This is Michigan. Any player that doesn't understand that doesn't deserve a place on the team, simple as that.
He may be able to work something out. I doubt it'd affect his punishment vis-a-vis the football-related punishment.
He is 21, turned in May. No clue on the rest of your questions.
i just have to say this..how many of us have driven home when you shouldnt...everyone here has the limit is what 2 beers you have that at dinner....yeah hes under more light and im not making a excuse but no reason to go all crazy. Getting a pulled over or not getting pulled over is all luck lets be honest when it comes to getting a DUI
Couldn't disagree more. People get killed by drunk drivers all the time. This isn't a boys will be boys, we've all been there situation
Please kindly reiterate that to my friend who lost his brother to a drunk driver. There aren't any excuses for driving while intoxicated or under the influence, regardless of whether or not you get caught.
Baaaaaaaah! Seriously, have you ever had an original thought in your life? You add nothing unique, like a blog parrot.
Your constant sheep-bating is tempting the banhammer
Baaaaaah! You ever have a unique though? You are like a blog parrot.
Was your double post on purpose to mimic a parrot, or was it a cruel, ironic twist of fate?
Cruel, ironic, twist of fate
Cruel, ironic, twist of fate
the UNIV and th Fans DOWN!!! beating Bama just became ALOT harder...I dont get it
YOU KNOW the consequences and you selfishly did it anyways.....
All hope for the Alabama game is basically lost. No proven running threat besides Denard.
Also, it's kind of ridiculous that the SALINE police department is looking for drunk drivers in Ann Arbor. This is why no one likes cops, bunch of jackasses.
This makes Denard's load much heavier against Bama. We don't need him running the ball 25 times just to make it a game. I don't want to see denard getting killed 3 or 4 times a quarter in the opener.
It's the cop's fault Fitz was driving drunk, right?
I'm the last person to defend police officers, but shouldn't we all be thankful in this case that a potential disaster (e.g., Fitz hits and kills someone while driving under the influence) was averted? There are a million reasons to hate the popo, but this isn't one of them.
I have a breathalyzer I keep in my car, you'd be surprised how few beers it takes to get to .08. I don't think a lot of people realize that they can feel completely sober and be over the limit, especially people who drink often. Studies about BAC and risk of crashing have shown that legal-aged drinkers don't really see any risk go up from .08 until .125 BAC or so.
Of course, that doesn't excuse him for breaking a law, nor do I know how drunk he was. I do wonder how these checkpoints are legal constiutionally, I imagine there's an MGoBlogger here that can explain why.
Sobriety checkpoints do not violate the 4th amendment. HOWEVA, they DO violate Michigan Constitutional law, and are not permissible within the borders of our fine state.
I'm guessing this wasn't a sobriety checkpoint. If it was, Fitz will be able to avoid the potential legal fallout. He'd still have to run hella stairs though.
