Fitz staying at NU
How many dump trucks of cash is needed to get Patterson. Whatever we come up with, let's double it. And offer him a free parking space and $100 gift card to the restaurant of his choice.
I have a friend who happens to know that GP enjoys unlimited salad and breadsticks at The Olive Garden.
Thank you very little.
He and Dorothy Wesmantooth could enjoy an endless pasta night together. We can make it happen Gary. Unicorns? Check. Truckload of Purple M&M's? Done. Free tickets to Styx? No problem.
You are aware his name was Wes Mantooth, making it Dorothy Mantooth, not Dororthy Wesmantooth, right?
Either way, she's a saint.

a $50 gas card. Then he can't afford NOT to take this job...

In two months that will only be about 4 gallons.

I'm in for Patterson or Chucky Gruden. I mean, if Brandon's really willing to shell out $5 million per, one of those two have to agree to come, right?
On a separate note, one of the rumors I saw today (I know, I've seen a zillion different ones) said that Brandon has contacted Gruden. It also said Gruden once stated Michigan was among his "dream jobs".
I, for one, would take that choice over JH any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

I thought someone said the same thing about JH and dream jobs...Oops, that was definitely not as true as once thought.
JH was offered $5mil, doesn't mean we'd offer anyone that kind of money. JH is in a unique and powerful position ATM.

He said he'd be willing to "let the market decide" what a top school/program like M would pay for a top coach. You don't pick up a guy from an FCS school (not that you said this, just an example) or a coordinator and pay them top money right away. You set it up with incentives for winning, BCS appearance, etc...

the "ATM" Im familiar with, correct? That would be wronnnng.
Now I feel old. I don't know which ATM you're talking about, but I meant "at the moment", FWIW.

Just clear up one topic being discussed on this board, he was referencing Ass To Mouth.
As a Raider fan I like Gruden a lot. He was the only coach since...who knows when to actually put his own stamp on the team instead of meekly submitting to Al Davis' whims, and the team's one good run in the last 25 years was all his doing. On the other hand, a college head coach has a very different set of responsibilities from an NFL head coach, and Gruden has only been a position coach at the college level. I think he'd be a bigger risk than Patterson or Whittingham or maybe even Hoke.
There is less than a 0% chance that John Gruden will be in AA next year coaching football...That is unless he takes a job in which his new team plays the Lions and the rood of Ford Field collapses.

Link? I'm in Akron and have neard nothing of the sorts.

Gruden recently considered taking an assistant's job with Oregon to learn Chip Kelly's offense. I think he has a jonesing for the college game and -- gasp -- loves the spread offense.
I like this idea. It somehow makes sense. If this happens, I would be very, very happy.
Until we know for sure that it can't happen, I would have to think JG must be our first choice...every one of those names on the front page of the Rivals 250 would have UM in the High consideration list. Want to be the team to beat on the true crazy freak athllete 5 stars? I'll take Gruden in the living room against anyone.
Ditka as the next head coach. Or a hurricane. Book it.
Bears in a close one....

I think god has better things to do than coach Michigan football. He only has time to coach one high school all star game a year. He is kind of like a football Santa Claus.
But what if the hurricane was named "Hurricane Ditka"?
I like the thought of gruden getting denard more polished, and even though we would unnecessarily stockpile qbs in every class, getting gruden would definitely pump me up for next year.

The words "Super Bowl Champion" look pretty effing awesome to recruits, I'd imagine...
I thought we were going to pay Brady Joke $5,000,000 per year?
When everyone asks me who I want, Er, if anyone were to ever ask me for some reason, I would tell em John Gruden.. He never sleeps, instant credibility, would quickly make us a recruiting powerhouse.
And after 5 or 6 years in the college game, spending night after night in motels and airplanes chasing down 18-yr-old recruits in small towns in Mississippi and Ohio and Texas, dealing with whiny alumni wondering why you haven't beaten MSU or OSU or PSU or Wisky, John Gruden, who has spent his entire fucking career in the NFL, will say screw this shit and bolt to Cleveland or Carolina or Pittsburgh or San Diego or wherever the nearest vacant job is. You Gruden fans are all delusional.
I'm totally on the Gary Patterson bandwagon right now. After watching the Rose Bowl, he can make use of Denard as QB and consistantly has good defense. Plus he is from a smaller school, so understands the importance of regional recruiting, which seems important to many people, even though he doesn't have midwest ties.
Patterson is the only option left that gives me hope.

Coaching in college? Recruiting? Utilizing a spread-option offense? Building a solid defense from raw materials?
A few years ago I might have said "he could be our Pete Carroll," but look how that turned out. He could also be our Charlie Weis or Bill Callahan.
We should be looking at existing HCs and DCs, not a self-promoter refugee from the NFL.
When your team is winning, be ready to be tough, because winning can make you soft. On the other hand, when your team is losing, stick by them. Keep believing. -Bo
Relax. Gruden is a solid coach. A good motivator. And he knows how to identify NFL talent. These qualities give him a chance to be a good college recruiter. His assistants will be doing most of the recruiting, anyway, fwiw. Gruden will be called into the living room to close the deal.
Patterson get the job. He said today Michigan is a great school yada yada.. but he has not been contacted yet, he will cross that bridge when he comes to it. Sounds like he is open to the idea...why on earth would he not receive even a phone call unless Brandon has made his choice and is going to shove it down our throats.
Sooo afraid right now.
How can you kill that which has no life

Come on Gary Patterson. You have a cooler shade of purple anyways. Make it Purple Rain!
