Finishing out the recruiting class

Submitted by Real and Spectacular on
Right now we sit at 20 commits and I believe we will likely end up at 32 or so. There has been some talk of up to 35 but that would require gray shirts and last year we heard low 30s was possible too and we ended up at 28. So I am going to guess the final 12 spots based on what I've read and my gut (No my gut doesn't mean anything like Sam Webbs gut does)

1. WR-DPJ

2. WR-Black

3. WR- Collins

4. OL- Banks

5. OL- Wilson

6. OL- Ruiz

7. DT- Retmaeir

8. DT- Solomon

9. DE- Irving-Bey

10. LB- Singleton

11. LB- Anthony

12. CB- Thomas

Although it's not everyone on the wish list, it would be an outstanding finish. Notable misses are WR Martin, RB Harris, OL Slaton, OL Leatherwood, OL Filiaga, DT Tufele, LB Gay, CB Holmes.

What are your thoughts on who we finish up with?

Look at 247 sports (NOT composite, but their ranking).  Then look at how they rank our 4 committed OLmen.  Commence throwing up.

FWIW, i 'kind of' agree with 247s ranking of our OLmen vs. the other services.  Except for 1 - AS is going to be an absolute stud IMO.

It is odd. They have Herbert, Stueber and Hongford all in the 700's, and yet their composite has Herbert at 253 and the other two in the 400's.  Makes you wonder, if 247 came back down to earth and put them somewhere more appropriate, where their composite rankings would end up. But you're absolutely correct, being ranked in the 700's does not make sense when you have the kind of offers they do.

You see, back in the good ole' days, there were only two recruiting websites, Scout and Rivals.  Nobody cared about Scout because their website looked prehistoric and was practically unusable so Rivals was the go-to site.  Fast forward to today and there are more recruiting websites than your browser has tabs, and you need an advanced mathematical algorithm to figure out the general consensus of a recruit, so you are better off going to the one that actually averages them all out for you, and that is 247.

i believe the fall of rivals was when they kept adding Southern analysts, and taking away Midwest analysts.

At one point, they had 5 recruiting analysts from the south, and zero in the midwest.  I believe they then 'promoted' Helmhouldt (sp?) to midwest analyst.  But still, does not cut it.  Huge bias in the rankings.

It has to help build critical-mass to your class when you land a bunch of 5-stars early in the season. Playing the waiting game like we are for most of our big pieces has to have an impact.

We competed pretty well on the field this year with a bunch of Hoke's under-developed kids. So I don't think there's any need to worry that OSU is gonna outrecruit Harbaugh the way they did RR/Hoke and even Carr. OSU is always going to get top classes, deal with it. But Harbaugh is too. The talent gap is already closing.

1. That top-ranked OL from IMG with high interest in Penn State is FROM PENNSYLVANIA. That might have something to do with him favoring PSU to UM.

2. The lack of "Michigan" you see next to the Top-100 recruits has to do with the fact thats its december, they havent committed to anyone yet.

3. No one has signed anything yet. Until February rolls around, we just dont know for sure.

This is a list from someone who admittedly doesn't have any original info, taking a list from someone who has a little info that summarized 5 peoples lists who have a little more info than the guy who summarized their lists.

Seems like this list doesn't measure up to the other lists so I'm going to make up my own list that refutes this list.

I'm so impatient, recruiting is probably not the right thing for me to follow but I can't help it. I'm still wondering if I should be buckled from yesterday. If we don't get at least one commit from our big weekend, that would suck.

Not sure Taylor will drop if we somehow land Harris. Taylor has seemed like the kind of guy who thrives on being challenged. Didn't he move to the toughest division in Georgia HS Football this year just so he could see how good he really was?

I mean sure, it'd be a crowded backfield, but if you're any good, you'll play.

I'd say Harris is over 50% and Holmes is close to 50%. With those two they would drop some guys. Also they will take the best OL so it could be any of these guys.

I will take only 5 stars to finish out this class, please. None of that 4 star crap.

Just kidding, but seriously, I will take as many elite DL and OL recruits as we can get. We saw what magic Don Brown can work on a DL.

For the few stargazers whining about OSU out-recruiting us, consider this: OSU has been racking up incredible classes since Meyer took over. Yet we were neck-and-neck with them in Columbus this year with the following starting players (according to ESPN):

On offense: (7) 4-stars and (4) 3-stars

On defense: (1) 5-stars; (6) 4-stars; (3) 3-stars; and (1) unranked (Glasgow)

Rankings mean something, but not everything.

I think the concern is that this may be the best team we have for a few years, while this may be their worst team for a few years. We will see how the games play out, but it's pretty reasonable to rank their collective talent above the rest. It is Alabama and Ohio State, then everyone else. It definitely doesn't mean they are unbeatable. I loved when we beat them in the 90s when they were basically assured a national title with a win over us. It probably won't work that way now with the playoff, but it would be so satisfying to see Michigan take them down at their zenith.
