Final Recruiting Class Predictions
Now that we are half way thru this recruiting class, I thought it'd be interesting to look at how it might end up, here's my best guess.
1 QB-Sousa-
1 RB -D. Hart
2 WR-Conway, Jordan
5 OL-Fischer, Posada, Walsh, Miller, Hobbi?
4 DL-Beyer, Rock, Zettel, D. Cooper
2 LB-Jones, Frost
4 DB-Hollowell, Brown, Crawford, Kitchens
That's 19 scholarships I'm guessing that numbrer will be close give or take 1 or 2, spots are pretty tight I wonder if kids are starting to feel the pressure to commit or are being told subtly their spot could be missing if they wait much longer
If I woke up from a coma in December and saw that class, I'd know that we'd beaten UConn, ND, and MSU and probably have gotten 8 wins
something i think a lot of people are losing track of. if they win on the field then there is no reason for a recruit to turn down u of m. top notch facilities, the biggest stadium in the country, and all the tradition. we win 8 games we get whoever we want.
If we want to start winning championships we need to steal some recruits from ND and OSU. ND got 4 big time commits this weekend. Brian Kelly is putting together one hell of a class, if he continues this we are in for bad times to come. Not to mention the classes tressel has put together the last couple years.
That would be a great class for being so small, but i would put Bryant in on the Oline. I still see us fighting hard to get Kris Frost, if Auburn is telling(lying) him he has a great chance at WR, we could be in trouble. And hopefully if we do land Dallas Crawford he'll be able to persuade Sammy to join the family
The machine is coming together. Go blue !!!
This is just a feeling I have, but I think we get one more LB, though I'm not sure who you'd take out if that happened.
Really great shot at S Avery Walls
and even though it was the same thing over and over, I couldn't stop watching.
Nervous about Zettel. Lifelong Michigan fan is needed to help turn this thing around.
QB: Sousa
RB: Hart, Thomas Rawls (if his grades are good)
WR: Conway, Jordan
OL: Miller, Fisher, Bryant, Walsh, Martin
DL: Beyer, Rock, Zettel, Damon Knox (again, assuming his academics are clear)
LB: Jones, LBTBNL
CB: Hollowell, Brown, mayyyybe Valdez Showers
S: Walls
Not the most recent ones; rumors that USF is coming on strong.
Either way, whether he commits to us soon or not, I don't see him being in the class on signing day. Too flaky for my taste, IMO he ends up staying in Florida.
Is Knox a guy we're really interested in? Are grades the only thing keeping him from an offer? He's a big kid, no doubt, but he hasn't really gotten offers from anywhere yet.
Looks like a big, athletic kid though, someone Barwis could mold into a monster, of sorts.
...(free) GBW.com article, LA CB Daren Kitchen announced that his top three are Michigan, Texas A&M, and Memphis. The article says that he's still waiting on his written offer to follow the verbal he got from Fred Jackson. It seems to me if he gets a committable written offer, he'll take it in a heartbeat. OTOH, if this indicates that Michigan is slow rolling him until they hear from Showers and perhaps other DBs, he could still serve as a serviceable backup plan.
For DL, it seems we're still in the mix for MD DT Darian Cooper (Scout 4*, Rivals 5.7, 3*). Between Knox and Cooper, who seems the better prospect and more likely to choose Michigan?
TOB: I liked the first installment of your M v.s. MSU recruiting piece "The Battle of Michigan." Looking forward to the rest of it. Nice work.
I agree with most of your list, although I'm hoping by "LBTBNL" you mean "Kris Frost."
Also, I doubt Knox will end up in this class. On top of the fact that I'm just not a big fan, I think we need a nose tackle and none of those four DL you listed can play nose. Knox is the closest, but not close.

No TE? seem to really want one
It all really depends on the start of the season. If we can start strong, several top recruits will see us as worthwhile. If we struggle we will have to settle for lesser players to finish the class.
My gut tells me we start 5-0 and land a couple of stars like Avery Walls and Ray Drew.
Go Blue!

I think it's going to be how the season goes. If UM starts out 4-0 this year, they will be getting talked about by the media but it will always include the 'well, they were 4-0 last year let's see how they finish this year'.
I really like how our class is shaping up. While there may not be too many immediate impact stars (Hart, Thomas, and Frost could be exceptions), this is the type of class that builds depth. Its the type of class that creates the backbone of a program. And to be honest, its the type of class we needed over the past couple seasons.
Given that Michigan has 20 returning starters next year, there's a great chance that no more than 1-2 true freshmen play in 2011. Maybe zero will get redshirts burnt. There's depth everywhere coming back, except, maybe, CB.

So is the 20 starters including K and P then?

Yes. I count the missing starters in 2011 to be Schilling, Woolfolk, Ezeh and Mouton.
You can probably add Banks to that list, although some people disagree.
What's the word on Frost? A while back, it seemed like he was ready to drop, but now things seemed to have cooled.
Got to get more of these guys from our backyard.
QB: Sousa
RB: Hart
WR: Conway, Jordan
OL: Walsh, Fisher, Bryant, Miller, Hobbi
DL: Zettel, Rock, Beyer
LB: Frost, Jones
CB: Hollowell, Brown, Crawford
S: Walls
Two wildcard picks if this season goes very well
WR: Sammy Watkins
DE: Ray Drew
guess/wish is that our 2011 class could look like this if we get the ball rolling with some great wins.
1 QB-Sousa-
1 RB -D. Hart
2 WR-Conway, Watkins
5 OL-Fisher, Posada, Walsh, Miller
4 DL-Beyer, Rock, Zettel, Cooper
3 LB-Jones, Frost, Thomas
3 DB-Hollowell, Brown, Crawford
Mind you there will be room for gray shirting. I read the other day not sure where but the schollys are first come first served especially for the OL prospects, sry can't remember where I read that at. Don't ask me to explain the gray shirt it's just my wish list.
QB - Sousa
RB - Hart
WR - Conway, Jordan
OL - Miller, Fisher, Martin, Ball, Walsh, Bryant
DL - Rock, Cooper
DE - Beyer, Drew
ILB - Jones would absolutely love to get Dawson or Laquinten Smith but not holding breath
OLB - Fingers crossed for B Jackson or maybe Dugan
S - Avery Walls
CB - Hollowell, Brown, and Showers
I know he can play D line as well but I thought we have been recruiting him to play OL.
Has this changed? Has he expressed a preference in playing on the defensive side?
...how many will stick with their verbal and of those that do sign LOI, how many will be suspect qualifiers.
