Favorite ways to watch the game

Submitted by Boom Goes the … on

Just curious how the MGoBloggers prefer to watch the games when you can't actually go to the stadium

Stay at home?

Go to a friend's house/ throw some sort of party

Go to a local bar?

As for me, I generally prefer to stay home, order a pizza and make a day of it.

My wife will usually watch the Michigan game, but can't sit for the 12 hour marathon

Depends if I'm in a yelling temper tantrum mood. If I am I stay home make some food or order, before the game do a couple stretches before my wild antics begin. If not I go to the bar fist pump when something good happens, hang my head when something bad happens and twirl my hat around my head a few thousand times.

I live out of state, so most, if not all of the games I watch outside the stadium. There are some games that I prefer to watch in the comforts of my own home. Bigger games I usually join up with the Michigan fan club in my city and watch at which ever bar they're gathering at! I drink lots of beer regardless.

I'm a home watcher these days if it's streaming on espn/btn. Camp out on the couch scaring the crap out of the cats and the wife when something great/horrible happens.

Ive always been a home watcher. I refuse to go to a bar to watch a Michigan game. I will go to a friend's house, but that's about it. As Ive gotten older, I am able to handle the games better if things dont go well, but I still prefer to watch the games alone. Nothing is worse than being in a crowded/loud area and being uncomfortable when your favorite team is on.

Either at the game or at home with as few people as possible; kind of opposite ends of the spectrum. Michigan games are sacred and I don't like to be interrupted or annoyed by people who place the same value on an M game opposed to Tigers or Lions games. I can handle listening to people talk about those teams/games but not M. 3 days now? let's goooooooooo

I like the idea of a bar, but I usually prefer the comfort of my home (or a friends) because most fans frustrate me with their lack of knowledge or pessimism. I can't stand hearing how stupid X-player is or how our head coach can suck...something because a play didn't work. Quarterbacks don't TRY to throw interceptions, and defenders don't TRY to screw up. That's my PSA.

If I could guarantee a sound victory, I might consider a bar. These days...

not being a smart-aleck, but today i will call the satellite company and have our TV activated for the next 3 months of college football season as we have for years.   on actual game days we always have some of our sons playing football and i coach, so we miss some michigan games.  we will watch as a family if/as time allows.  if the game is not good, we just go on to the many other activities that fill the day and will check the score here and there.

for lloyd's last game against florida i went out back and bow hunted during the second half.  i knew i wouldn't enjoy the game since it was a nail-biter with hart fumbling for the first time in his career.  when i got out of the tree stand i got the great news of the win.   go blue.

After having a DVR for over ten years, I will watch absolutely nothing live on tv.  Commercials drive me absolutely nuts (except the Super Bowl).  When I am watching Michigan play, I get so filled with anxiety, I cannot wait for a commercial break to see what is going to happen next - especially when it is late in the game, and the game is on the line.

I will avoid any public place with televisions prior to watching the game, avoid any computers or radios which might update a score.  My friends and family know not to say a word until I let them know that I know the outcome of the game.  If I answer the phone, I will immediately inform the other person that I have not watched the game yet, SO DON'T SAY ANYTHING ABOUT IT.  I don't even want any hints or snyde remarks - I  WILL HANG UP ON  YOU!!!

While other fans may not agree with this method, it does score big points with the wifey.  I can show her that every Michigan football game is not more important than her.  I can spend time with the family or do important things during the actual game time.  I am able to watch it uninterupted at a later point in time - without having to watch any DAMN COMMERCIALS.

Sometimes the games last longer, and it sucks to get caught up before it is finished.  Sometimes the game turns into Overtime fests such as Penn St, the Illinois scoring olympics, or Braylonfest against MSU.  Always, always, always extend the recording well beyond the normal time slot of the game - I go for 3 hours beyond.

For night games, I usually will wait until close to midnight.  I usually have several of the noon & 3 - 4 pm games recorded to watch until then anyway.  I might go hiking, or do family time all day, come back and start watching all the games for that day around 6pm or so.

Living only about 20 minutes from Ann Arbor, if I can't be at the stadium, usually there is some pressing reason (typically, it is because my wife is working a shift and it is only myself and the kids, but work has gotten in the way for me too). On those occasions when I cannot attend, assuming I am at home and not working a storm somewhere, I will just make some sandwiches and vegitate in front of the TV and the blog while the kids watch (or don't watch). For 3:30 PM kicks, I'll grill something beforehand and have an early dinner while I watch.

Then I prefer to watch games all by myself (if anyone is to come over it can only be my Dad) with the smoker goin (ribs and chicken), a pre game blunt, halftime blunt, no beers until after so I can focus on the game and remember it. Ive watched every game the last 8 years doin this! I even turned down two tickets Saturday to stay home and save money, sucks getting old and semi-responsible...DONT FORGET THE ROTELL AND VELVEETA!

Your experience is just like mine. Friends, junk food, beer, and the female kind of paying attention. She is a buckeye fan, but wants to Michigan to win simply for my well being. When M loses, I don't want to do anything fun, I stop drinking, I want everyone to leave my house...I'm just pissed and angry. She hates it when I am like that.

Alone or with a small group who won't distract me much. I'm terrible at remembering details of games later on, and if I'm not fully concentrated on the game I even realize at some points that I don't remember much about the last 5 minutes or so except that some team has been driving or one team punted not long ago, simple stuff like that. I won't remember that the RB had a good 6 yard run on 3rd and 5. So yeah, a quiet setting because I can be fully engaged, not because I'm going to fly off the handle.

I watched the Iowa game on the couch, while my girlfriend at the time climbed on top of me and rode me...pants off style. I would say that's the best way to watch a game... makes losing bearable. Made it through the play clock....heyo!

I love being at the stadium and the atmosphere. If I can't make it in for the game, I always try to watch games all day on Saturday w/ a group of friends with at least 2 TV's going with games on. They know however, that when it comes down to it, The Michigan game will not be changed from one of those TV's once it starts.

If I'm not attending the game, I prefer to drive the 45 minutes to my hometown and watch there. I'm not watching Michigan in a bar in the Lansing area, where I live, unless I must. My Dad turned his basement into a very professionally done "Irish pub" a few years ago (with a few nods to American sports bars, of course), he often throws gatherings down there if he's not going to the game. If nothing's going on there, I head to my favorite local watering hole, it will be 70/30 Michigan fans.

If I we have to stay home for whatever reason that weekend, copious beer and some combination of nachos/pizza/wings/dips will be going down.

This gives me reassurance that I fall in the MGo norm here.  Stay at home, food of choice is pizza or wings, and couple of my Michigan buddies.  Does anyone have a specific TD song they play? I play the fight song before games and stuff but if Michigan scores we blare some song we’ve picked for the year to be our TD song.

although having kids and a wife that's a doctor working most Saturdays I have constant dilemmas resorting to me recording it ad trying not to watch it but I do find ways.

I don't like bars, unless they are walkable (e.g. If I happen to be in NYC visiting friends).

I also like watching Michigan games alone, maybe with the wife, but generally alone (any other sporting event, I prefer with company though).

I also like reading the live log, unless we are getting embarrassed.

I go to the gym and run/walk on the treadmill for the whole game. The nervous energy from watching Michigan makes for an easy workout. By the end of the season I usually get to 15 miles of running. Then I go home and undo it all with beer.

At some residence where the total number of people in that residence is no more than the number of fingers on my hand (each hand has five).

Usually at home, with two or three buddies and a standard routine of 2-3 nice craft beers to start things off and a few pee pee water beers in the second half to keep things under control. I remember college though, we would go through at least one case of coors light by halftime in the living room. So many headaches....

I hate watching on TV.  But what choice is left for games I can't get to.   I'm usually downstairs in the basement with the room as dark as possible and my old 57" Sony.  The wife is upstairs.  We go to the stadium together but watching at home is TOO dangerous for her to be in the same room with me.  Eat prior to the game because food doesn't sound good during the game ... thank God beer still does!   I'll watch the entire game no matter what is happening .... then I'm either a real happy guy ... or ... well best not to talk to me for a while.

I get very emotional during Michigan football games (see overly upset), as I'm sure many of us here do, so I honestly prefer to watch the game at home even when it's a game I have the oppurtunity to go to.  Heck, my wife even had to drag me out to the OSU game last season and the MSU game the year before because I didn't think I could handle watching them in person.  So yeah, give me some beer and/or Cuba Libres, some appetizers I can pop in the oven throughout the afternoon, and few pillows to punch, and I'm ready to make a day of it.  The less people around me, the better (for all parties involved).

Usually by myself or with one or two friends.  I enjoy listening to the commentators (even though many are bad) talking about the game.  Bars are too distracting for Michigan games, but I enjoy going out before or after a Michigan game to see other games.

We just bought a quad-level house. The lower level is all MIIIIINE! Not 100% complete yet but progress is being made. It'll never be as nice as some on the board but it'll be exactly what I've always wanted.

If I'm not at the game, I'm watching it at home.
