ESPN's Mike Greenberg and Paul Finebaum Just Picked Michigan to Win

Watching "Get Up" on ESPN, and Greenberg picked Michigan to win. And then Pete Finebaum agreed with him. So there's that.

I fear this year will be just like all the rest...Michigan just always lays a egg in this game the last 15 years

Not sure why you have been negged for this comment....Ohio State owns us...until we actually see a Michigan Team beat an Ohio State again...I find all of this false bravado and optimism on here ridiculous.  Good Michigan teams lose to good Ohio State teams, good Michigan teams lose to bad Ohio State teams.  The only thing we have on our side is Ohio State is so good this year that this game is actually meaningless to them (with respect to the National championship picture)...win or lose they are still going to spank Wisconsin or Minnesota in the BIG Championship and go on go the College Football Playoff.  Maybe we can catch them at home looking ahead, but more likely we are in for the annual reminder of the gap between Ohio State and Michigan on the football field.

Exactly.  You are either a fan that remembers beating Ohio State regularly and have been in a deep depression this century or are a fan that was born into an era where Michigan never beats Ohio State no matter how good our team is, how bad Ohio State is, or where the game is played.  Neither scenario provides for optimism.  It is like going to the roulette wheel in Vegas where it keeps landing on red...you know it is going to land on black eventually...but at this point you have run out of money or patience betting against red.

Fuck Pete.

This is like Valenti saying Michigan is going to kill Sparty. It’s a win win for them bc if it happens they are right. If Sparty (or OSU in this case) wins then they can go back to trashing Harbaugh and Michigan like they want to do anyway.

This. Anyone picking Michigan this year is either A) a Michigan homer or B) someone who dislikes Michigan but wants to say they think Michigan will win so after the game they can say "Harbaugh just can't get it done. Look, I picked Michigan to win the game, but Harbaugh just continues to have let downs against rivals"

It's the same old song and dance. Beat OSU and end the cycle.

FUCK Finebaum..... that pos is all over Harbaugh and Michigan after each loss and then jumps on the bandwagon after each win.

I pick Michigan to win because Ryan Day = John Cooper

GO BLUE.

in an interview Day admitted that they practice for their next opponent every week, but they also practice to face Michigan every week.   If I were a betting man, i'd say they've been doing that since the cooper years, hence the reason the series has gone the way it has.   I truly don't believe we've been looking at it that way (hopefully until this year).

Here is a cool story bro....

my high school had whooped our rival for years when I was young, then beat us 3 years in a row when I got to high school.

The summer before my senior year we started learning three packages of plays we were saving for Turpin. We lined up in “Tank” with 3 TE’s on the field in the second series of the game and you could hear the confusion on the defense. We scored on the first play.

We easily beat them that week, and then pulled out a 3 point victory in the first round of the playoffs that year against them (beat them at their place twice).

I would imagine OSU has a similar feeling each year, and it’s honestly an amazing high.

Finebaum didn't agree with him.  He couldn't even find a way to not be critical of Harbaugh for the 8000th time.  He basically said he didn't think Michigan's team was as good as last year and said they still got shellacked by OSU.  Finebaum will never root for a Harbaugh led team and always find criticisms

Finebaum is useless and I cannot stand Greenberg. All that dude prefers to discuss is the overrated NFL.

Pete has an agenda. He has to go after JH because that’s what Saban orders. He picks M hoping to be wrong because then he can say M should be winning these big games and JH should be fired. He predicted the same thing last year, then claimed JH can’t get it done. He’s so transparent, and it’s a shame that media assholes like him thrive these days.

My advice is to change the channel when he comes on.

I have a weird feeling that UM will win.

But also a dread that slowly creeps in whenever the positive feelings pop up. A dread that OSU will always and somehow find a way to win and there is no visible path past them.

But what if they do?   What if Michigan does win Saturday and gets the 900 pound OSU monkey off Harbaugh's back?  How does the OSU fan base react?  How much pressure now goes on Day with his 0-1 record against TTUN?

They are so used to winning I dont think they believe it's possible they'll lose.  I was listening to 92.3 The Fan here in Cleveland this morning and fan after fan of OSU called in to say they were going to AA because it was "so much fun to watch their smug faces when we kick their ass again".  They honestly dont see losing as even something for concern.

It's way past time we changed that.  Do it now guys.  End this.

That's what 20 years of dominance does. OSU has a massive psychological advantage in this rivalry. Possibly just as important, if not moreso, as any talent advantage they might have.

Now obviously, fans aren't the ones playing the game, but OSU could be down 28-0 heading into the fourth quarter and their team will still believe that not only is it possible that they could come back and win, but that they will come back and win. To them, they can't lose this game because the concept of losing doesn't exist.

I'm not holding my breath for a win on Saturday, and in fact I will assume the opposite happens. But if somehow....someway....it actually happens, I think you would see a return to balance in the rivalry sooner rather than later. Not dominance by Michigan, but balance between both programs. So much of OSU's dominance in this rivalry is purely that psychological factor, which gets bigger and bigger with every passing year that Michigan loses. Beat them on Saturday, when they're #1 in America, and that puts a massive dent in that psychological advantage. In their absolute confidence in winning this game. In fact, it could be shattered entirely. Ryan Day would have to go back to Columbus and face the hellacious firestorm that is the OSU fanbase and explain how he could possibly lose that game. He'd be crucified by the local media, all the students and young alums who have grown up knowing nothing but winning in this rivalry, and all the pressure would be on him and his team all offseason to return the favor the following November.

The entire Michigan program could exhale a huge sigh of relief and know that they can win this game when its not Luke Fickell coaching the team as an interim.

May I ask why you think it will mean a return to the "norm"?

In 2011 I'm pretty sure you guys thought the same thing.  I remember the after game thread.  In retrospect it was hilarious.  The comments about Hoke bringing y'all back and being the savior are almost cringeworthy in hindsight.

Granted, and this is a very important point, Harbaugh > Hoke, but it seems more like hope or maybe wishful thinking.

You may be right, and Day would catch some crap no doubt, but if he went on to win the NC it would mitigate it quite a bit.  I think it would take losing the next year at home before there were any real repurcussions or psyche shifts.

They literally have no other life.  Plus they know they can come to Ann Arbor and enjoy a much safer atmosphere than anyone from Michigan can expect in Columbus.  (This directly from someone who lives there).

The lowest common denominator in Ohio is so low... that when some clever OSU fans kept removing the "m" from a hotel sign (The Graduate Hotel Columbus) instead of maybe putting a security camera on the sign and charging someone with vandalism.. the hotel manager just agreed to not replace the "m".  I mean can anything be more stupid?

For what it's worth, Greeny has been saying Michigan will win this game since Monday morning.  Finebaum was making fun of Greeny for proclaiming a Michigan victory just yesterday while also saying he has "fired that guy (Harbaugh)" more times than he can count.  This is a complete 180 from that statement yesterday.
