Denard Robinson (QB, Michigan): Who knew this guy was even going to start? Good move, Rich Rodriguez. His passing numbers were good -- 19-of-22 and a touchdown. His rushing numbers were better than good -- 29 carries, 197 yards and a rush TDs. Better remember his name.

They said it, not me.

I think it's good that he's getting recognized. I don't expect him to win, but you can be dang sure that if he plays like that every game he'll win in a landslide.

into the Heisman talk--sooner or later--if he can stay healthy and do it against defensive coordinators with game film from which to prepare.

Jeez, he outgained the entire UConn offense with only 186 yds in the air.

My biggest worry going forward is that we have a single point of failure (Denard's health).

Even if he has an All American season, we aren't a good enough to really get him taken seriously. You have to be on the best (or almost the best) team to win it. I'm not saying I like it, but the Heisman will probably go to Ingram or Pryor (GODDAMMIT).

Great delivery, fantastic timing, very good on his feet, and can really catch fire under the right circumstances.

But, if that's true, why exactly is Jake Locker being called the leader (or among the leaders)?  Same with Gerhardt last year.

I do know that we're not as good as Stanford last year, and maybe not even as good as Washington(are we?  I know nothing about them...) but we are still a major program that everyone knows, and we all know that success at a big time program will get you more notice than success at a Northwestern or a similar school

T Pryor who? they played Marshall. Not exactly a hard team to beat. After watching Denard yesterday, and catching the OSU game on thursday. I would say(i know it may sound bias) that for his time of play, Denard is a better dual threat QB. Im not saying TP can not play, I just think that DR is farther along then he was. The point im trying to make is, DR could win one if he is given alittle more time.

I never said that Denard will never be a Heisman Trophy contender. This year, he will not be. Let's be honest, OSU will most likely play in another BCS bowl, and could very well play for the MNC. Pryor has tons of preseason hype, and if he plays near to his Rose Bowl level, he'll be in New York and could very well win it.

You don't have to be the best player to win the Heisman. Many people thought Suh was the best player last year, but Ingram won. Sure there were other factors, but it didn't hurt that Ingram was the best player on the best team.

"being on the list" to "actually winning it" :)

Actually, I'd rather not be so dependent on one player.  But clearly, DRob is by far our best option.  It would be nice to avoid subjecting him to hits against the lesser competition on our schedule.  But once we hit the B10 schedule, we'll need to ride him like yesterday and the team's fortunes will be tied to how long he can stay explosively healthy.

Ingram is injured and will be splitting reps.  Pryor is being misused badly by Tressel.  My hope is that Pryor sees tape of how much fun Denard was having, wants to kick himself in the ass for choosing OSU over Michigan, and plays with mixed emotions the rest of the year.

As for Denard, I was thinking they wouldn't start mentioning him until at least four games like this one and a credible performance against ND.  However, Denard is well-spoken, humble, charismatic, and capable of breaking off big plays.  When one also considers the dreads, the "Shoelace" monker, and his 1000-watt smile, Denard could be a very viable Heisman candidate somewhere down the road.  In "sales-ese," Denard is a walking "puppy-dog close."

I think he will get mentioned this year, get enough votes to be on the scoreboard, and have a serious shot at it in the next two years if things go well.

further off topic...

Watched Old School with my wife Friday night.  I was laughing a little too loud when Will Farrell was in therapy with his wife and he talked about the panties the witress had on and never having sex with anyone else again.

I don't think my wife was amused.

With that comes a lot of national attention, positive and negative.  I'll take the positive attention, it has to be good for the program to continue to be part of the national conversation (even when that conversation verges on the silly, as it often does).

One thing that does jump out on that list was that Denard had some of the best numbers of any player on there, while also playing some of the best competition of any of those players.  Most of the people listed were playing against Samford, Arkansas State, Marshall, etc.  The Heisman is not won in one week, but this just underscores how impressive Denard's performance truly was.

About what I expected (since at least the spring game).

It wouldn't surprise me at all to see him win. He has as good a chance as anyone at this point.

...Although, I try not to use being a wet blanket as a defense mechanism. I understand the jaded feeling after the last two years... But, come on people!

Denard for the Heisman!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I really really really think this means Denard has a really really really good chance to win the Heisman.

But seriously, all of you all who feel the need to point out that this is the first week, and folks should not take it seriously, and blah blah blah,  need to, well, stop taking yourselves so seriously. People know all of those things.  You are not more enlightened than they are.

Happy DR is getting some recognition for his play.  While I'm sure there will be struggles this year, I am all for the recognition his performance yesterday garnered.
