So much for pregame handshakes. So what is the penalty for blindsiding your opponent with a punch to the face because you lost?
spoiler alert: i linked this
probably two games
He'll be gone for more than that. He just was suspended in February for disciplinary problems, and this was just ridiculous.
Plus, his backup looked better anyway.
Dont forget he also went after some fans to. I say 3 maybe 4 games.
He also got a swing in on a cop. Not wise.
Two other points:
1) Totally never ever right even if you're taunted to throw a punch, but that was a damn hard punch! If the football career doesn't work out....
2) I suspect this will give the talking heads something to talk about rather than us. This I am grateful for.
I'm just waiting for a headline that insinuates Blount is somehow distantly related to RichRod or something.
I'm not defending him at all even though that was a mean jab, but that other player was talking shit to him. And he got ktfo...wowzerz!
The guy wasn't even looking.
Right or wrong, talking shit is part of football. Punching the opposition in the face is not. The dude needs to learn some self control.
Words are words, punching someone is way out of line.
He tried to go after some Boise State fans, too. Not to mention he pulled a Melo by backing away after throwing the punch.
What a joke.
This guy is toast for awhile. I predict at least a two game suspension, but if it was my player he would be done for the year.
The played from BSU did entice the guy, but still, what a piece of shit. I hope he gets kicked off the team and kicked outta school.
Out of school? Little harsh in my epinion. Get him an anger management counselor though...
to head coaching, Chip.
Thats exactley what I was thinking. His first game and his team gets beaten all over the field, his offence does absolitley nothing, and his star tailback pulls a Carson Butler. How is their fanbase going to handle this?
I bet you richrod is connected to this suckerpunch in some way, I'll leave it to the fine investigative reporters at the free press and annarbor.com to find out exactly how.
Rich Rod was on his shoulder with a pitchfork ordering to punch that player! You can clearly see him standing on that ugly green feather design on Blount's shoulder just moments before the strike.
Looked like he clocked the cop restraining him while heading into the tunnel.
Actually, he probably could for the punch on the field depending on the local prosecutor. It was not part of the game.
That was a pretty insane ending to a decent game. Bad class by the guy who was talking crap but even worse to the guy who hit him.
I'm not saying it's right what he did, but I understand why he did it. Still, it would be hard to believe if he were allowed to stay on the team. The new coach has to take control of this locker room and I think he does that by kicking Blount off the team.
with everything you said. Except "decent game."
was good to see Peterson go right for his player after he said something to Blount. Hopefully he suffers some penalty, too.
Not that I agree with or condone it but his penalty might just be a right to the jaw that left him seeing stars. In all seriousness I dont think he misses game time but I am will to bet he has some extra stairs to run.
who said before the game "we need to give them an ass whoopin"?
I'd say he was pretty serious about that promise.
Yeah he was, at least we know hes a man of his word.
That's why J Leman was taunting him to begin with. Pretty sure Blount hit the cop too. Classy fella
He is also the dude that ran all over Or. St. last yr.
On either part really. Don't trash talk after the game, emotions are high, people are amped up, and acting like a jackass is asking for trouble. At the same time, even if your opponent is "asking for it", DO NOT GIVE IT TO HIM! Be the bigger man, and use that anger to push yourself and get better.
I hope those Boise fans he almost went after were really drunk because there is no way I'd be talking shit to that loose cannon. For some reason I was hoping he'd hit one.
Yeah what he did was stupid, but that one fan looked like a complete ass clown taunting him. I kind of wanted Blount to pop him one.
That dude needs to sit for the rest of the season. First he throws a sucker punch and then goes off on the fans. What a fucking douche bag. I thought for a moment I was watching a Pistons / Pacers game.
A part of me was kind of hoping to see some jackass dump a pop on him a la Pistons/Pacers.
his teammates were? Seeing someone from your team get popd and just sitting there is kind of weak. I understand that the coach is right there, but Id prefer a few guys to protect a teammate.
Blounts will be gone for 3-4 games IMO.
Most Oregon fans seem to be of the opinion that he is gone, off the team.
He's lucky they stopped him from attacking the BSU fans.
Already up (for now), for those who didn't see it.
More than 2 games and switch him to the DL.
thanks for vid
Take a look at the Oregon Scout free board.
Best of the worst. wow is right
The Broncos dude probably deserved the cold cock he received, but Blount...man, if you can't take the trash talk, then just keep your mouth shut in the first place and play football.
And yeah, 2 games. At least.
No man has ever deserved a cold cock ... that is disgusting and frigid.
I'd say that if you can't take the trash talk without acting out violently then don't play the game at all.
The Boise state player was the instigator, no doubt. He even went as far as to touch Blount before the trash-talking. I'm sure most of us have been in or witnessed heated arguments, and when you touch the other person, things tend to get out of control. On the other side, Blount had talked trash before the game, and he got humiliated tonight, both from the individual and team point of view. Maybe Blount deserved to hear some trash talk payback after all. No matter how badly he was provoked, his reaction was shameful.
Considering all what happened, the Boise player deserved to be punched in the face (maybe that teaches him a lesson), and Blount deserves some 3-4 games suspension.
I don't know who negged you, but I can totally relate to this sentiment. Yes, it's way fucked up to hit someone in the face, but (and I might be alone on this one) it's way shittier to entice this behavior, which I think the Boise player was doing. Winning with class is MUCH easier than losing with class. Neg away.
People are overly sensitive with these points. I dont think they were made to +/- if you disagree with someone but more or less if someone makes an excellent argument or someone is acting like a troll.
People need to lighten up.
I noticed a couple of people didn't like something I said. Just like you mentioned, it should be very easy for the winner to show some class. It's enough to enjoy the moment, and no need to rub salt in the other's wound. Coach Petersen was even faster than Blount to jump on his player for the instigation. In no way do I condone Blount's actions, and I can easily imagine his season deservedly go down the drain, much like Buttler's last year after the ND game. As for the negging, it's ok because I realize people have their own opinions, just like I have mine.
He was interviewed by ESPN during the game.
Good news everyone!
Dumb sports radio talk show hosts definitely have something else more scandalous to talk about than some wimp from the freep.
Thank you, Jeebus!
If he were a player on Michigan, I think I would want him off the team. Unacceptable.
the ramifications for the team and RRod would be brutal... I don't even want to think about it.
of that stupid Oregon sledgehammer.
I think the fact this this is by no means Blount's first run-in with discipline problems, the fact that he was going after his own team mates, the fact that he struggled with a coach and a cop, and the fact that he was about to go into the crowd make this worse than anything Butler did. This made Kelly, a new coach in his first game as the head man, look out of control. Blount will be dealt with harshly, IME.
Totally agree, I think Blount's season is over.
This happened only because the Boise State player challenged him to a match in Mike Tyson's Punch-Out, and Blount very briefly forgot that Mike Tyson's Punch-Out is a video game -- not another name for a cowardly sucker punch. So really, this was all just a misunderstanding.
The face of the Boise State player is classic. He went from smiling and talking shit to falling down and saying "ouch!".
Maybe should of shown restraint but you know what, the Boise State player didnt need to touch him, jump around, and yell shit. So he got punched and looks like a fool on tv. I wonder what his friends are saying to him lmao.
and then blount did that bizarre urban-arm-raise-i-feel-like-i-wanna-fight thing.
thanks hout, now i can sleep peacefully.
Uhm what do you mean by "urban"? Pseudo-racism?
FWIW, im black.
i just know that expression--having grown up in detroit.
Im pretty sure they do the "urban arm raise" in rural and suburban parts too. Im guessing you can find people in Alaska doing it.
Speaking of being overly sensitive...
sorry for offending you?
Just because you're black doesn't mean you can't be racist ..... even though i didn't see the 'pseudo-racism' in the comment.
i didnt sense any racism.
next time ill be sure tone it down for some of you.
Look, Blount shouldn't have punched the guy no matter what he said, and he didnt help matters by continuing to freak out afterwards. But the Boise State guy was a complete and total douche, and deserves some of the blame. If I was Peterson, I would suspend him too, even though the NCAA won't.
That was a total classless act. he said "we owe them an ass whoopin!!" so i guess he meant it. blount should serve a min. 2 game suspension. although i like bob davie's (great irish coach) suggestion..."suspend him indefinitely" good call. what a sucker punch
They are actually talking about dismissal for Blount.
So much for saying they "Deserved an ass whopping".
How can a team lose three fumbles on interception and miss two field goals and totally destroy Oregon like that?
I thought that whole thing was ridiculous, I'd like to see him get kicked off the team for it. I wouldn't want someone like that playing for Michigan.
It was nice though seeing Oregon play the way they did tonight. I was hoping they were overrated going into this season and it seems that could be the case.
So is Boise State, from what it looks like.
Boise State went up and down the field all game. The turnovers were mostly first game things, especially all the snap exchanges. Unless you're Ryan Mallett, those things tend to get resolved. Their defense looked tough too.
They just played the team that many picked to unseat USC in the Pac 10 and dominated them. They're underrated if anything.
On one hand....
The kid that did the chirpin...will probably never do any chirpin on anyone again.
I have to be honest, it was kind of funny to see the smirk get wiped off his face as he got cold cocked...
BUT, before you neg me...it was a STUPID thing to do by Blount, he could have seriously have hurt the kid and his antics after that were ridiculous...
so he deserves a big suspension... no doubt.
8 rushes for -5 yds 2 catches for 13 yds. Scholarship pulled. Enjoy the rest of your anger filled life. idiot.
I hate the ducks. Kelly has no other choice. 152 yds of offense total. Mike Belotti is lucky he get to fire people now.
Blount should be suspended indefinitely, and if they do decide to kick him off the team he seems to be a perfect fit for MSU. On the other hand if I were Boise State I would suspend the classless punk who got laid out, just for a game. What ever happened to winning with class. There is a serious lack of class in athletics today and that was a great example of it. I was always taught that you talk with your play and not with your mouth. Only a douche bag would go up to a guy tap him on the shoulder and say some smart ass comment to a guy who you just beat. Shake his hand and congratulate him on a great game. And as far the fan indecent, again Blount was way out of line, but what grown man goes out and starts taunting and swearing at a kid.
Calling out a guy (with a few words and a tap to the shoulder pads) for saying your team deserves an ass whoopin for giving your team an ass whoppin the year before after your team laid an ass whoppin on his team AGAIN. Is NEVER in the same category as a juiced up idiot sucker punching an opposing player, his own teammates, a security guard, and tried for three fans.
They shook hands before the game.
I understand you never played football at any level in pads. If you did you would know that a hit with the hand to the shoulder pads is a gesture of "hey you" and not an act of aggression.
Punching someone in the face with your helmet still on is an act of aggression.
Blount's senior season is over. Stats 8 carries -5 yds and gave up a safety. The good side is Walmart is always hiring.
Don't make assumptions. And secondly for them to be in the same category they would have the same consequences. I am not a proponent of that, and I did not say that. All I am arguing for is that the guy who got hit is that he kept his mouth shut. I understand that you hate Oregon and that might be part of the reason you didn't read my post as a non partisan opinion. I was just calling for more class and better sportsmanship. And I am not sure why you keep quoting his stats as they are irrelevant in the situation.
They seem to agree with me. They just did a segment on espn and they both said that they both deserved some negative attention for this. Let me stress this again, some attention but not equal punishment.
The 2007 M-Oregon game showed me they can't win with class; I guess they can't lose with class either.
(Sad that not even a pregame handshake can cure douche-itis.)
There's no way the NCAA suspends him for the year - they'll give him a game or two. I think Kelly, given Blount's past and the degree to which he went off the reservation, will deal with this more harshly.
oregon suspends blount for the rest of the season....
