End of game check-in

Submitted by Gucci Mane on
Who was at the game in the end ? I thought it was important to show my support for the team, so I came back to the Big House after I finished my dinner. The defense showed fight and held Utah to a missed field goal.

Even though I'm just one person and can't do much, I was shouting as loud as possible when Utah had the ball. I'm not happy with the results so far this year, but I'll be damned if I'm ever going to stop supporting them like they are a NC contender.

For a minute there when Michigan was moving the ball, I was like..........can you imagine if somehow, some way they pull it out in front of an empty stadium?

I went back, too. I hung around Crisler afterwards. I told Matt Wile good game. I talked to Coach Nuss. I gave two players a ride to Schembechler Hall. They thanked me and I told them my family will always support the Team, and I'd see them next Saturday.

Go Blue.

it was an interesting scene.

When Utah hit the post (loud btw) for a brief moment you believed.  I was really impressed with how hard both teams played after the long delay.  Utah got after it on defense, as did Michigan.  For Utah it was about draining the clock which they did admirably.

Offensively Michigan took their shots but couldn't protect Morris to let him set his long throws.   All were forced, hurried, desperate heaves.  We have no deep threats or even medium threats not named Funchess if we're honest.

Neat moment for Utah fans.  I applaud the less than 2000 Michigan fans who stuck around for if we're honest no god damn reason whatsoever.

So you're still going to go to the games?  Why would you do that?  Knowingly buying a poor product doesn't provide much incentive for the producer to improve the quality.

Because we're fans.
I can understand people who themselves choose to stop spending money. It's a lot of cash, and it's not always pleasant to watch.

But this response here is lousy. Choose what you want to do with your cash, no problem. But don't bash the fandom or reason of people who choose to keep buying tickets. That's disgusting. Its lowest-common-denominator inflammatory talk radio stuff.
This is not an easy time to be a fan. Fans of all stripes should allow those who respond differently the leeway to respond how they want. The problem is not a fan who buys a ticket or doesn't buy a ticket.

Good for you.
But in a game against an unranked team that will finish in the bottom half of their conference, the big takeaway from a rump half-quarter shouldn't be "the defense gave a good fight" in a game Michigan is losing by 16.
I will continue to cheer for the team. And so will most people here. It's crushing to think that a team with the talent to go (minimum) 9-3 could wind up near .500.
I can't speak for everybody, but when I perceive a lack of development, I feel bad for the players. I like DG a lot; he has great natural skills and has produced a couple of the best performances in the history of our once-great program. To see him drained of spark like this is a shame, and I hold the coaches responsible.
So do most people.

I left the sports bar, scene of a steady dwindling crew of alumni, when the game was halted. I came home and followed the radio for the next two hours, all the while making mixed-result attempts to check out the general mood of the blog. I then listened to the remainder of the game online. I couldn't bear to watch.

I still have a pulse, last I checked that.

I HEART you for doing that.

Wish our group had been equal to your effort.  We were in 2 different sections today and always stay until the end.  Today, we couldn't.  Once finally at home after a rain soaked walk and into dry clothes, I felt guilty thinking about the team going back onto the field in the rain.

Funny thing... there really wasn't any rain afterwards.  The field drained impressively, and you could hardly tell it had rained if it weren't for all the discarded ponchos and wet seats.

I was there.  The guy next to me commented that it was the loudest he'd heard the fans get all day.

The players looked half sullen, half trying really hard to get amped up.  More or less the same as most of the fans who were left, I think.

Norfleet went down with a disconcerting-looking injury... hopefully a stinger, but he was holding it like it might be a collarbone.

It felt like we were on the visitors' side of a high school football game, and it was really weird.  Lots of people that I ran into after the game were former marching band people.  I was also apparently standing right in front of Jack Kennedy at one point (per Twitter).

During the rain delay, I'm pretty sure I saw Roy Roundtree hanging with the marching band in Crisler, trying to learn how to twirl a baton with the MMB twirlers.

I was there as well...waited out the rain on the concourse and had some pretty interesting conversations with the ushers/event staff who all stayed. Props to them for their hard work, they did the best they could with limited information, nobody really knew if it would continue. Both sidelines were flooded for a good while, but they managed to drain most of the water prior to the restart.

Two things of note when the the stadium reopened.

1)Definitely more Utah fans at that point.

2)Agree with OP on wanting to continue supporting the team, the players anyways. Everyone who did come back was certainly being loud as possible. I was kind of disappointed at the very end when the players just walked off without going to the area where Michigan fans remained...I get it we lost, but still kind of disappointing.
