My Name is LEGIONS

I wonder what it was...if it was precipitated by JH wanting a better recruiting staff.... and or maybe Warinner wanted to semi retire in Florida and unwilling to do the recruiting grind.   Or didn't get along with Gattis

Hearing all the rumors about coaches bitching at each other this year and last, i guess this makes sense?

Seems like Jim really wants cohesiveness on his staff and Ed didn’t fit the mold.

I'm waiting for Paul Harvey to deliver the rest of the story.

The bloom of Warinner's rose rapidly faded...

I don’t get the love for Warinner. Yeah the line was better than when Drevno was here. But that’s the problem. People seen how shitty the O-line has been over the past 6+ years before Warinner got here and he had given the line modest improvement at best and everyone thought he was so great at his job. The eye test told me the O-line was still not very good but after seeing how shitty it was before Warinner, he seemed like he was a great coach. He was fools gold if you really look at it in comparison to the rest of the B1G. The bar was set so low that people were in awe of someone who was somewhat competent at his job. In reality they were still an average at best O-line. I’m not saying that Moore is definitely going to make all these guys All Americans and first round draft picks. But let’s see what he can do. We all know he can definitely recruit. I would have preferred a guy with a proven track record to have the job now but time will tell how all these coaching changes pay off for Harbaugh. If Warinner is so great why is he at FAU now?? Other big time teams would have made room for him if he were that great at his job. Also people are saying he doesn’t last long at places because he clashes with other coaches and players. Where have we heard that before?? Oh yeah, same things are said about the head coach. All I’m saying is this team needed a shake up from top to bottom. Warinner has had some pretty big recruits come through here during his tenure and most have not lived up to their ranking. If these coaching changes don’t work than Michigan will be looking for another O-line coach next year amongst an entire new staff.
Let’s hope for the best!! We all want this team to succeed and play in big games like the CFP and the staff we had was not getting it done. At least Harbaugh is trying something different and with his reputation on the line you have to give him credit for trying something completely different. If it works he will look like a genius if  not all his previous accomplishments at his previous spots will be forgotten and he will be considered a washed up coach who can’t win big games and couldn’t right the ship at his Alma Mater. As a fan base we should prepare for the worst but expect the best!! This team has a lot of talented kids and I just hope they are able to develop these kids into smart young men who know how to win as a team.

The best hope is that someone picked up his coaching method and philosophy and can at least adapt it with a more pleasant demeanor and recruiting skill set.

This is a major downgrade in job prestige.  What in the world actually happened here?      Is his son staying on as a walk on or is he splitting too?

Not really all that weird. He doesn't seem to stay in one place all that long in the first place. Obviously Michigan is going with a youth movement in the coaching ranks. He didnt seem to recruit all that well. Get someone who can get the Jimmies and the Joes there and see what happens. If the new coaches can do that, which so far seems to be the case, the rest will fall into place.

Quite interesting how this fan base wanted him to remain on staff until now. Oh he didn’t mesh with players. Oh he wasn’t a solid recruiter. Oh he didn’t develop players........cmon y’all

I think the fanbase generally was okay with him staying, and assumed he would, but also nobody's shedding tears about him leaving. His o-lines were...okay. But they were never dominant, despite talent. And he evidently didn't do much recruiting. So that's why most fans are basically saying fine, whatever.

Makes sense if Moore is the recruiter he seems to be...you have to make room for him to grow or you loose him and his recruiting chops. And it sounds like there were some other coaching dynamic issues that made this a no brainer. Poor leadership fit can destroy a staff and poison a team.

Imagine keeping a guy on board no matter how good he is at his job if he makes your other, better, fit and also talented staff members want to leave? Like everything in leadership, It carries a risk..but maybe less so that keeping him around.

Ed Warriner wasn't a very good Offensive Line Coach.  He was the best assistant among a crop of crappy assistants so we naturally over hyped him.

Jim has done a p!ss poor job surrounding himself with top end assistants throughout his tenure at Michigan.  That's the difference between his tenure here and other places.

Yeah he took over for a turd. Of course he looked better. The line was in disarray. He got it back to competent but still average. It’s a lot of fans inability to see that difference that is a huge issue on message boards. In 2019 Michigan was 8th in rushing in the B1G with 4 drafted OL.

I see people in this thread still believe the message board farce Warriner was some great OL coach.

He was average. It just so happens the guy before him was awful making him look better than he was.
