Dook tears taste like.......................
salt?
This is encouraging news ... but I still don't feel good about our matchups against ANYONE right now.
We snuck by Tournamentless IU, we snuck by We snuck by NIT Illinois, We snuck by one&done Ohio State, and we got pounded by MSU.
We just haven't been in any kind of rhythm lately. Hopefully it's just me being pessimistic (which isn't unusual), but I'd be super-nervous playing anyone in this tournament. However, having Duke out is a beautiful thing.
I'm enjoying Duke's loss all on it's own, though.
I love this.
So many people thought our bracket was a death march because of the Duke NAME. They were nothing special for a #3 seed, obviously.
what with 3-seed Duke's death and 4-seed Louisville's near-death.
Let's just beat Texas and get to the Sweet 16.
Great . . . but now we'd better take advantage by beating Texas.
This Arizona game is like our game yesterday only they look even more discombobulated.
I'd forgotten how tiny Hurley was, hated that little spider monkey.
The Tournament Selection Committee says, "You're welcome."
Some random person: "Hey, how you doin' this afternoon?"
Me: "Duke lost."
Ok, obviously there's still a game against Texas that is BY NO MEANS a lock as a win.
But...should Michigan win...who would you rather face? Mercer, Umass, or Tennessee? I have to say, after watching that game, Mercer doesn't look like a fluke. I'm not sure Michigan really wants to be facing them out of those 3 options.
then we've already beaten Texas. I think that'll give plenty of confidence and honestly, the lower the seed the better. Rarely will a seed that low (high numbers, that is) make a serious run. Gotta go with the odds that they'll prove why they are a 14 seed.
The Duke loss, while fun . . . who am I kidding, it was fucking AWESOME . . . but anyway, the Duke loss serves as a warning to us. We are built more like Duke than we are like Mercer. We can go out the same way Duke can.
They live by the three like we do, and they really did not shoot that bad from three. But they have no inside D (like us), and could not go inside when they really needed to once Parker was in foul trouble.
Unfortunately, or fortunately - I'm not sure which - it really does not matter which opponent we get next. It only matters which Michigan team we get next.
Mercer is experienced and proved today that they do not crumble under pressure, which says a lot when you are playing friggin DUKE.
Duke isn't that good when they (especially Jabari) just shoot J's, but theyre amazing when they (especially Jabari) take it to the hole. Theyve been avoiding just chucking J's all game lately, however from what I saw of the game and what the box score looks like they regressed to just shooting J's all game and lost because of it.
Sounds kinda like us, we haven't gotten anything at the rim or goign towards the basket off the pick n' roll for like 10 games (not counting illinois blowout) and our offense has looked terrible. I hope we can fix that for the Texas game.
It is.
2014.
this Mercer team looks really sweet, too -- the coach seems cool -- first tourney win I think ever. I do hope they advance again, and if so, our game with them is one filled with mutual respect & real (not jus' high-fivin') sportsmanship all 'round.
and then, after takin' care of TX, sadly -- & with much love --
we will have to beat them.
(like a good domme would.)
Let's just call it... Initiation ♥.

This dude is the best dancer ever.

You're getting a whole fucking tray of 'em. The big tray, or maybe call it a Trey, from Sams Club...the soft delicious cookies.
holy sht...i significantly remember you saying that and me calling you out on it.
You win
is a couple of Keebler elves. They've got a big delivery for you.
What does the rest of your bracket look like?
you can predict where that 777 plane is, I'd truly be impressed.
No inside D.
Uh, oh.
I only saw the last 5 minutes and it seemed like Duke was making some dumb plays. Mercer's experience (7 seniors) really helped. Also, guard play.
A big part of it was that Duke was 7 for 25 from inside the arc—for a sparkling 28%—and Mercer had 28 FT attempts to Duke's 13.
Duke also shot 7-25 from two point land
Well the reality which I am trying to avoid on this thread is UM without Mitch is built very similar to Duke. So we see how we can have an incredible offensive display yet only be up by say 10 due to the defense and rebounding issues. And if you don't hit those outside shots (note Duke's 28%) this type of thing happens. That Burke McGary pick and roll bailed us out quite a bit last year during cold stretches so neither Duke nor us this year have that option. We just have to shoot quite well from here on out, that is how this team is constructed with the injury.
An Ohio loss, a Michigan win, and a Duke loss. Now we need a Staee loss to Harvard.
Wednesday night I watched "Survive and Advance" to get pumped for yesterday and today. The Madness has already started!
"Whatnot" is one word.
I now live 5 miles from the Florida Gulf Coast U campus. Mercer beat FGCU last week in their tournament championship game (at FGCU).
Mercer is REALLY good. All 5 starters are seniors. They could go far
U mean one game further, right?
Ok, this bracket just got a lot easier with Duke out and Louisville struggling past a mediocre Manhattan team (I live near the college and this is not viewed as a particularly strong team).
I'm sure there are plenty of examples of teams that struggled in their first round game, only to go on a run. The 2000 Florida team, for example, needed a driving-floater buzzer-beater from Mike Miller to beat Butler 69-68 in OT. Florida then marched on to face Sparty in the National Championship game.
Guys - Just got back to the office from the Duke Mercer game. Oh, what an experience. The whole game was what March madness is all about. Mercer played like a team of seniors. The arena was fairly quiet until about 7 minutes to play when it started rockin. Duke fans were stunned and Mercer fans were dancing in the aisles. What a great game to watch.
