Down goes Sparty

Tuck breaking out the Hoke clap as Michael Penix Jr carves up the secondary for nearly 400 yards. Bask in the Sparty schadenfreude.

MSU is a bitch program that doesnt give a shit about any team but UM.  Fuck Tuck.  He will cut half his team next year and bring in 24 portals.  Fuck HIM

Very typical Sharty game last night.

  • Several dirty plays by their defense because they're too dumb to distinguish dirty from tough?  Check.
  • Appear totally unprepared because they spend 365 days a year scheming against big brother?  Check.
  • Reach their standard tier 3 ceiling and revert to their true identity as a mere thorn in the side of the real Big Ten programs?  Check.
  • Evidence enough talent to portend being a pain in our ass again this year? Check.

It would be nice, but don't count on it.  It will be a dogfight like it almost always is.  Wash was a 3.5 pt favorite yesterday.  MSU looks about the same.  They play tough but the secondary is still a problem.  Surprisingly though, they couldn't run the ball.  Too much Penix in the end.

This is not surprising.  Nobody on MSU could run the ball last year unless their name was Kenneth Walker because the OL was @*$&.  This has not changed in 2022 there will be a lot of 0-2 yard runs with that line but I do not see the backs on that team to break the huge play when a hole is actually created.

You were the guy going on about how Tucker's teams never quit?

Saturday night was Mel Tucker's 35th game as a college football head coach. He has lost 15 of those games. Twelve by double digits. Six by 30 or more points. Four by 40 or more points.

So if you really think about it, it wasn't that bad of a loss at all. Chill out. #TuckComin

So don’t hate me, but Thorne to Coleman actually looked pretty dangerous there at times.

But if Penix can do that to their secondary, JJ should be able to feast.

Thorne is dangerous when he gets to happy feet motion.  I don’t like how often he had two defenders immediately in his face at the snap and was still able to avoid the sack and complete the pass.  MSU’s receivers did have to make a ton of circus catches, though.  They could have been down more than 29-8 at the half if just one of those circus catches fell incomplete.

Sparty also got away with massive holding more often than not but there’s nothing you can do about that.

Keep your foot on the gas against them.  They’re annoying enough to scrap back in the game.

If Washington was more familiar with MSU they would not have run the ball into the line again and again inside the 5. That is MSUs strength on defense. Washington left a lot of points out there and still won by 11. And that was with taking their foot off the gas in the 4th. Thorne is a gamer and should not be underestimated but it is clear Staee has a lot of holes.

Good points. I would add that this is a game where it would be really nice to have the DL generate consistent pressure against their O-line for 60 minutes. It looks like UW was able to get to Thorne a lot in the first 3 quarters but then got gassed towards the end, allowing him a lot more time in the pocket to run and go downfield.

I also think that there were a couple of holds that were so egregious in the last 5 minutes (ie literally tackling the DE) that it's not unreasonable to think that they could (not just should) be called. Maybe they won't but I suspect at a minimum JH et al will be very vocal about that sort of thing which can help get at least one flag.

Finally, I would note that UM is lightyears better as a call control team than UW. If UM has a lead in the fourth, I'm very confident in the OL being able to pound out a couple of first downs in a row against their DL. Related, I feel like this could be a "Cade game" insofar as MSU is a team where ball control and avoiding bad luck/dumb mistakes is the key to winning.

Not too worried about Thorne but mainly because I am uncertain he will be playing by the time MSU comes to AA.  Kid is a warrior but is taking a ton of shots between the leaky OL and the lack of a non-QB running game.  Looked to me to be in pain between plays late last night - though it didn’t affect his play obviously.

PS - I am I the only one sick of our opponents / rivals seemingly having the proverbial horseshoe up their A$$es?  Between to 4th down “throw it up” conversions by MSU and the 2 early fumbles by PSU vs. UA that PSU recovered these teams seem to have an excess of “luck”. (Ronnie Bell grabbing his fumble last week not withstanding..)

Just checked RCMB.  Based on Johnny4x8x and mental state if Tucker "CAME" hard at the right time MSU Wins by 60.  Keon Coleman is in transfer portal going to Bama for a real program. But Tuck did not cum enough.  So they lost.  Both those guys need more cum for a win.

Its such a weird fanbase.  TUCK CUMMMMMING
