Don't Clap Over Burnt Pizza (ESPN 30/30 Spoof)

Submitted by leonidaswolverine on

Fantastic fake 30/30 promo made in the aftermath of the Minnesota game last year. I find it a lot easier to laugh at now that those dark days seem so far behind us. I hope it didn't get posted before, I couldn't find it using the search function.

First board topic, please don't kill me.

I don't really get the Hoke clapping thing unless it's a representation of his lack of participation in the play calling or something. in which case why did the clapping meme win out over the headset one?

I mean, Harbaugh claps too.

Until it was apparent Hoke was in over his head...and the clapping became more of a desperation move and a symbol of this incompetence than anything. Harbaugh claps, yes...he also chews out the refs when they make an obviously horrific call, and he wears a headset, and he calls plays...he's more directly involved in the game. Hoke it always felt like was just...there. Didn't seem like he was doing much coaching in game, and the clapping was symbolic of that.

It's probably unfair and may not even be true, but when you can't beat Rutgers and Maryland and get humiliated by freaking Minnesota...yeah, that's kind of what happens. Things that would appear endearing to a successful coach suddenly look to be a mark of incompetence to a failing coach.

Jim claps when it's earned or deserved. Hoke clapped before, during and after everything.

Give up a sack? Clap clap clap Mr. Hokesworth!

Fumble the ball? Clap clap clap Mr. Hokesworth!

Throw your 4th INT? Clap clap clap Mr. Hokesworth!

-3 yards on a 4th & inches...

Allow a punt return for TD after fielding 10...

Getting your backup mollywhopped again after trotting him back out there when he's obviously concussed...

CLAP. CLAP. CLAP. Bore a striking resemblance to the toy monkey with the cymbals.

Harbaugh clapped after Rudock threw the pick six to seal the loss at Utah. Wins, losses, and clapping aren't related in any way.

Running a pizza company and being a shitty AD aren't related either, for that matter. Hackett made furnature for thirty something years and appears to be as competent as anyone could possibly be.

I think the difference is/was... In that game Jake played a terrible first half, but up until that pick 6, in the second half he did some good things to help get Michigan back in the game. Also, while hindsight being 20/20 and all, the were an onsides kick away from a shot at forcing OT. He had to keep his QB's head in the game, and confidence up moving forward for the remainder of the season. To summarize, there were some positives mixed in with the negatives and some light at the end of the tunnel. Now I understand that Hoke's intent was probably generally the same. Keep the kids focused, don't break their confidence, etc... But with Hoke it became increasingly hard to find the positives, or any light at all. He also found ZERO opportunities in game to chew someone out for a bonehead mistake. That is not the case with Jim. He's not gonna hold your hand, pat you on the back and coddle you throughout ever situation. That was Hoke's mistake/shortcoming. Never seemed to find any teachable moments.

DB would put himself in a commercial so he could be on TV.  Back then it didn't seem so weird, but after BLL, I can only imagine how he probably hired a creative agency then just dictated what the commercial would be like.

Pretty good. "When he got knocked down, he got back up...even though he probably mildly shouldn't have" was a funny line. Anyone else notice the strange time signature of the music toward the end?

I don't remember seeing this before.  This is hillarious.  Much funnier now than it would have been if I had seen it while still under the Brandon/Hoke regime.  Wow, the difference a year makes.

Everything it turning up Harbaugh!

for first-time OP posters? I don't recall any in the 5 years I've been on the MGoBoard. Or does what happens in Bolivia, stay in Bolivia?

I don't think people have a problem with posters with low point counts starting threads so much as it is the bad threads started. Generally, it seems like a lot of those were from people who just crossed the 100 point threshold starting a thread for the sake of starting a thread. The 100 point threshold is there so people can spend time on the site to learn what is and isn't thread worthy. Some people learn, some don't. Just my take.

Great video my friend.  We have gone through some very hard times, but it has only made our program stronger.  Its a beautiful thing that we can look back and laugh knowing we came out cleaner on the other side then Andy Dufrain.  That said, there is, and has been, much elitism on these boards.  Many will get lost in spell check and grammar, ultimately blinding them from the light.  Too many people designate themselves as censors of what should and should not be allowed.  My advice to the judgemental:  Lots of choices out there, if you don't like something...don't click on it.  Nobody owes you anything...

the biggest problem with the posting of unnecessary threads is that it quickly shoves much more thread-worthy material to page 2. And with the drupal software issues this website has, that makes it very hard to go back to threads that should have stayed on the 1st page a lot longer. The search function of this website has also been broken for a long, long time---if 'stuff' could somehow stay on the MGoBoard sidebar instead of disappearing to page 2 after just 5-10 hours, it would cut down a lot the posting of duplicate thread subject matter. The vast majority of us work; I would guess that most, like me, can only sneak an occasional peak (if at all) at MGoBlog while at work. But the nonsense threads (and not just apparel, uniformz, etc) and duplicate threads of not-new material serve little or no positive purpose. Why, for instance, was it necessary for someone to post a "TWIS will be out soon POSBANG" thread yesterday??! I don't think it is at all unreasonable to ask everyone to think before posting an OP. And it's not unreasonable for some to encourage "self-policing" by pointing it out when nonsense clutters up the MGoBoard sidebar. 'Brown Juggernut' nailed it. The 100-point threshold likely was established so that everyone could get a feel for MGoBlog before posting threads. Evidence shows that it's not working as is; either a higher point-level, a post-screening system, and/or a probationary period might be the answer.

I will say that we've had a few people over the years build themselves up to the requisite number of points to start a thread, only to start a thread (several, if they are given multiple chances) which is an unmitigated disaster. Those are pretty rare though - it usually goes well or at least well enough that nobody gets sent to Bolivia.
