Does Gameday try to avoid Ann Arbor?

Submitted by trueblue262 on

I'm sure my opinion is biased a bit, but I really thought Gameday would roll into Ann Arbor for the MSU game. Now that we know they are not, brings up my question, do we get another shot for the Iowa game when we beat MSU this week? If Herbstreit has anything to do with the decision making, then probably not. It can't be a favorite place for him.

but don't they also only appear at night games now??? b/c Herby has to call the games... I could be totally wrong on this.. and maybe they're still flying him places.. but it seems to make more sense to just do night games... and i thought that's why they'll do the UM game vs. PSU

Agreed.  As soon as herbstreit started calling games, I felt like the game he was calling became almost a tie-breaker for deciding on gameday location.  This year, and maybe even last year it seems more like an over-riding factor.

OTOH, ESPN doesn't have the Alabama-USC game, so he's flying somewhere this week.

Herbstreit does not seem that biased and knows what he's talking about. He's definitely not the OSU version of Lou Holtz in sportscasting. I'm not saying he would be the most welcome visitor, but I don't think he's telling anyone not to come to A2.

Also, they love the SEC.

all the time.  No surprise here.  However, that new commerical with Corso and the Duck is really, really funny, well done there.

They obviously do. How could they not pick the leaders and the best! It's all Dantonio's fault, if he didn't fake the heart attack they would be hear for sure. screw ESECPN

Chris Fowler mentioned on a radio interview a couple years ago that Ann Arbor was one of their least favorite places to go to on gameday because the fans give them a hard time.

We have more history with them than most college teams.  Corso was winless against us as a head coach and Herbie was winless against us as a player.  The fans still give them a rough time about that.

And Fowler went to Colorado.  In true Michigan fashion, our fans have a way of forgetting that we beat them in '96 and '97 and can't forget '94.  (And of course, it's somehow Fowler's fault that we gave up a Hail Mary.)

in terms of national relavence behind Bama vs the Cocks and Gators vs LSU.

Depending on rankings (a win) next week we will be fighting Arkansas at Auburn for the biggest game.

If anyone is really gunning for a Gameday appearance (I could care less) you need to pull for Texas A & M at home (3-1) to beat Arkansas or Kentucky at home (3-2) to beat Auburn (both are unlikely).

Also, they have already been @ Auburn once this year for the Clemson game.

So if we win this week, you may get your Gameday appearance anyway.

I never expected them to come for this game. There are bigger games this weekend nationally.  Like others have said, this really isn't a big game outside of Michigan, mostly because no one cares about Sparty. Looking ahead to next week, assuming no losses for the teams involved this weekend, there are only three games that will feature two ranked teams, OSU-Wisky, Arkansas-Auburn (they've already been to Auburn this year), and Iowa-Michigan.  The chances of Gameday being here next week would be pretty high.

ABC/ESPN is pissed about the Big Ten Network.  They've lost a lot of money because of this. They have a vested interest in covering any other major conference when possible.

Just heard Scott Van Pelt say on his radio show that gameday "tv" is in Ann Arbor, and gameday "radio" is doing florida lsu (?)

Either he is misinformed or it has been switched. to AA. Anyone heard anything?

Edit: I think he was misinformed or i misunderstood what he was saying, one of the two, becuase i just checked the gameday site and it still says alabama south carolina.
