Dillon Bell predictions going to Georgia

Submitted by matt1114 on July 31st, 2021 at 1:10 PM

Once 100% in favor to Michigan, Dillon Bell has had quite a few predictions on rivals and 247 from Michigan to Georgia. I know Bell is a WR/RB player, and the primary recruiter is Mike Hart according to 247, so maybe we have him as a RB.

Duece Spurlock has had switches from Michigan to Mississippi state too.

Hoping this means we have some other targets that coaches like better and think we have a shot at getting.

If Hart can get a 1000 yard rusher and over 2k for the group, one of the top guys will switch here because that means the offense is rolling, which bodes well for the record. Kids want to go where their position does well and the team wins.

Spurlock seems like he was a take only if they whiffed on both Jeremy Patton and Sebastian Cheeks. They look good for Patton right now. As for Bell, losing him would be a bummer. Let’s hope the staff has something up their sleeves

Bell is on a visit to Georgia currently and they're now looking good for him. He also said he will be committing next week.

We definitely wanted him as a WR and just last week he was quoted saying "I don't drop nothing in Michigan gloves" during a workout. A blow to be sure as he seemed locked up for Michigan for a little while now. The board at WR is expanding in response, with renewed attention on 4* WR Dane Key and an offer to super speedy Utah WR Cody Hagen (faster than Xavier Worthy in the 100m).

We cooled on Spurlock when things for Jeremy Patton turned in our favor. Patton is expected to commit to Michigan later today so buckle up.

Getting recruits out of the deep South is always going to be a crapshoot regardless of which assistant is recruiting them.

Yes and no.  Here's a breakdown of recruits (per 247) from the SEC + Texas + Virginia footprint since 1999.

  • Year, Commits
  • 1999,6
  • 2000,2
  • 2001,2
  • 2002,0
  • 2003,5
  • 2004,4
  • 2005,5
  • 2006,5
  • 2007,5
  • 2008,4
  • 2009,8
  • 2010,8
  • 2011,4
  • 2012,4
  • 2013,2
  • 2014,3
  • 2015,4
  • 2016,10
  • 2017,8
  • 2018,11
  • 2019,8
  • 2020,2
  • 2021,6
  • 2022,6 (out of 15 commits)

Those first couple RR years they made some inroads in Florida (and if memory serves me right a number of those kids didn't stick around/work out), but then that sort of dried up.  Harbaugh then had some luck pulling in guys from that area (in no small part because of IMG Academy and similar programs in Florida), and thus far he's still doing okay.  But overall it's still very hard to pull guys from the Deep South consistently.  And I'd add that the 2018 class had a decent amount of attrition from the guys in the South.

Michigan is recruiting fine in the SEC footprint relatively speaking, but they absolutely will lose more than they win down there and it is always a crapshoot if those guys stick.

None of those guys have proved much in college...Higdon was alright but lacked vision and ability to break tackles sometimes. Not that great in pass protection. Wasnt even drafted. A far cry from the running backs Fred Jackson produced in his heydey.

The other three...one transferred out he thought so much of the running back coaching. Corum was decent last year and Edwards hasnt played a down of college football.

Results do not change if he was recruiting elite talent which you said he hadn't.

Higdon not being drafted does not mean he was not a very good, 1st team B1G, running back.

Charbonnet transfered out because a 2 Star prospect Jay Harbaugh recruited and coached up passed him as well as the following years recruits.

Once again, complaints about Jaybaugh have no merit in reality.

There is no evidence of him being "passed up". That's an excuse everyone loves to use when a guy gets frustrated and transfers out. You think Giles Jackson was "passed up" too? The Harbaugh coaching philosophy seems to be play favorites with no rhyme or reason, i.e. playing Milton over McCaffrey and McNamara. Charbonnet had a good nor great 2019, leading team rusher at least, yet hardly played last year. Chris Evans hardly played either yet was good enough to get drafted? If he's such a good running backs coach why was he replaced?

Is it a goal to have as reliable of a rushing attack as under Carr? Because we definitely did not despite having an offensive line full of NFL players in 2019.

You claim there is no evidence of him being "passed up" but then point to him hardly playing...I would recommend reading Seth UFR of the MSU game.

Also interesting how you are concerned about evidence yet accuse Harbaugh of playing favorites without any. We are not at practices and it is possible Milton was superior in practice but it didn't translate to the field. Related, I thought I had read that part of the reason Giles left was because he thought Milton was mistreated. Also, Giles was an elite returner but not WR. Even before he transfered the reports were he was falling behind Henning, Wilson, and Johnson.

Running backs are just one piece of a running game. Run game design, overall terrible offense, blocking, failure for QB to be a threat on reads et cetera. Jay could not control all those things.

As for being replaced, it is simple as if you want Hart coaching here it made a ton of sense.

I'll give Hart a pass this year because he's in a new spot and has to form new relationships with a lot of these kids.  But I do think people grossly underrate JayBaugh as a coach and recruit and I'm not sure Hart is going to be substantially better as a coach.  Like, I really enjoyed Hart's time at UM as a player but you look at IU's rush offense last year and it was somehow worse than UM's in ypc  (3.13 to 4.59), equal in TDs (12), and almost the same in total yardage (869 to 789) despite UM playing 3 fewer games.  And that followed a general trend wherein IU's rush offense lowered it's rushing average while Hart was there every year (4.41 to 3.63 to 3.13).

Yeah, the only reason I didn't want to bring those up was because that was Chaos Team Indiana and that felt a bit unfair given the shift in offensive staffs overall.  But yeah, it was crazy last year people were clamoring for a Hart-Sheridan offensive brain trust at UM.

Again, I'll give Hart some time but I do think for all the undue shit JayBaugh gets because of his last name, Hart gets a ton of unearned credit for his.

I get that but it’s not like these are top 25 kids, these are three star players that we wanted and they appear to be going elsewhere. I’m not going to go overboard over and flip out over recruiting but i don’t have my head stuck in the sand anymore either.
This staff as whole is unproven in the coaching ranks overall and I think the hope was that they would be lights out recruiters but i just don’t see that as of right now. Rutgers avg right now is 88.62 and Michigan is 88.72. That isn’t tearing it up.  I will absolutely love to be proven wrong from a recruiting and coaching standpoint.

They've done great so far, especially the defensive backfield and OLB/DE.  ILB hasn't worked out yet but this staff can recruit and they're getting started.   They've done better than I expected so far so late in the recruit game.

Apparently you don't see this, jaded by getting set up by Webb and let down.

Your definition of great is different than mine. The last two years UMs recruiting has been outside top 10.

We’re in a lame duck situation and now barely can get 3 stars at this point. Nothing has been great about this team since 2018. Maybe my expectations for UM being a blue blood in today’s society is lofty as I think that’s dissipating but losing recruits to Baylor is ridiculous in my opinion.

The widespread belief that Harbaugh’s job is in jeopardy combined with the poor ‘20 season and an unproven staff means recruiting for this year is going to be a struggle.

The team really has to be show out well this year. I mean, duh, we all knew that. But recruiting is just emphasizing that even more.

Bell looks like a typical 3 star to me.  I'm more worried about not getting Patton.  But I'm also expecting to lose half this class before the season is done so I'm not getting too worked up over recruiting this year.

I don’t care where the predictions are going so much as where those predictions say Bell is going.  I mean, we all gotta hit the road sometimes, and predictions are people too.

Wait. Scratch that.  Why are the predictions going to Georgia?
