Did we bring Al Borges back as OC?

Just checking - maybe he's guest OC today.

When the QB misses easy throws & the WRs drop catchable balls what can you call that's going to work?

Without Corum it's gotten pretty easy for the Illinois D, get ready for the run knowing Corum can't do something magical & play zone because the Michigan pass game is inept

I have no clue where you are getting that from my response but if your question is did the OCs not prepare the offense for Corum getting hurt I would say probably not.

Now that the WRs are catching the ball in the 4th qtr the offense looks pretty good, so again I will ask you what plays CAN you call if the QB misses reads & throws while the WRs drop catchable balls?

All you have to do is look back to O'Korn vs Ohio when the coaches called an amazing game & O'Korn consistently missed wide open guys....coaches can only call the plays they can't play them

Why do we play Roman Wilson? What's the point of having a 5'8 lightning fast WR (I know he is listed at 6 ft but let's be honest) if you don't use him on shallow crossing routes? Well I guess you could use him to stretch the field deep. Oh wait. We don't use him for that either. Might as well just use another TE

Surprised it took this long for a hawt take thread, but I'll bite. We have a massive talent disparity in our favor, yet are massively underperforming, and our elite talent is playing inconsistent, at best. At times their individual talent will show up in a yac or explosive play, but our schemes and play calls are not giving us any advantage in our passing offense, and our players often are clearly unready or unable to execute them, which indicates poor coaching in that phase.

Well put.

This has been so for 8 years now. Yall keep blaming the OCs. LOL

There's another thread blaming Gattis, many still blaming Pep. It's wild.

Patterson had SIX future pro receivers, six future pro olinemen, a future pro rb and a future pro fb and we were having this same conversation about "the receivers can't catch...or get separation" as excuses for why the passing game didn't work or why "speed in space" was a massive dick tease.

I had already lined up my first post to the board in probably 7 years to be a block quote from 2011 Trash Tornado game column. Going for it on 4th down and converting only to kick on 4th down later. Total lizard brain.

The now rapidly developing lizard brain theory of college football coaching states that there is a certain level of pressure above which rationality goes out the window and coaches revert to who they really are. It came to me in a horrible epiphany when Lloyd Carr punted in the 2005 Ohio State game less than a quarter after going for it on his side of the field. Coaches panic, go to their binkies, and then try to convince you otherwise in the post-game.

Different coaches have different levels. Ron Zook reverts to the lizard brain on the opening kickoff of every game. Kirk Ferentz makes it about five minutes in. We don't know about Tressel because he constructed his team such that the lizard brain was right. Les Miles exists on an entirely different axis with taffy on one end and victory on the other. He is the only one who escapes. The lizard brain is unavoidable.

Al Borges's lizard brain kicked in after Vincent Smith ran for two yards on Michigan's first offensive play of the second half.

Very frustrating at times but it wasn't all on the play calling as there were too many dropped passes, too many inaccurate throws. Yes, the OC squeaked by.

Guess I missed it why in the fuck was Gash our 5th stringer playing over stokes and Dunlap?

Stokes is far and away better than gash
