Devin Gardner
Devin has been very involved with Milton during the off season and if his improvements on the field match the pregame hype, does it make sense for the staff to hire him or another team bring him into the fold?
If anything, he could open a business training QBs to get better.

I am pretty confident that he already has the exact business that you are describing.

I have been impressed when listening to Devin on the WTKA segments. It makes me wonder what he could have done with 4 years at QB and a good offensive line. He really got a raw deal.
September 19th, 2020 at 9:20 PM ^
So are you saying that he got jobbed?
September 19th, 2020 at 9:31 PM ^
Yeah I guess so
September 19th, 2020 at 11:14 PM ^
Is that you Devin?
Now that the mineral king is gone, we need someone else to turn to.

I guess this proves MK was really Shea. Who would have thunk!

Like every other QB since Henne
September 19th, 2020 at 9:24 PM ^
Funny you got downvoted when this seems to be the consensus.
September 20th, 2020 at 6:08 AM ^
Hell, just one year would have been OK. Certainly better than what he got.
September 20th, 2020 at 7:57 AM ^
Well 4 years would have been hard since his time overlapped with D.R.
September 20th, 2020 at 12:10 PM ^
I know the emotional attachment we as Michigan fans have make this hard to see, but Denard should have been the one to move to WR/scatback and Devin should have taken the reigns. RR should have done that Devin’s freshman year (ideally Tate would have gone to class and continued to be the starter). We romanticize Denard because he was so lovable and could run like a gazelle, but as a QB he was always a square peg in a round hole.
I say this all with the benefit of hindsight. I didn’t believe it at the time.
September 20th, 2020 at 9:03 AM ^
...and that was under Brady Hoke. Just think if he played under Harbaugh and Josh Gaddis.

DG throws like a shot putter
September 19th, 2020 at 9:29 PM ^
He also has the top two single-game QB performances in terms of yards in program history.
September 19th, 2020 at 9:52 PM ^
His throwing motion drove me crazy, but I agree that it's hard to argue with the results. I sometimes liken it to Wes Montgomery's thumb-picking guitar method.
September 19th, 2020 at 10:32 PM ^
+1 for knowledge of Wes Montgomery. Would donate all my points if I was able
September 19th, 2020 at 9:57 PM ^

Yeah, but that was when Gorgeous Borges was running the offence and Hoke was head coach, and they didnt use the spread, so it doesn't count.

Really? It’s not Denard against ND?
September 19th, 2020 at 11:09 PM ^
I was talking specifically passing. Total yards, Devin still has #1 (Indiana 2013), but I’m too lazy to look up who has #2.
EDIT: Fine, I looked it up. Denard against ND was #3. Jake Rudock (Indiana 2015) actually has #2.
September 19th, 2020 at 11:12 PM ^
But he does shot put like a thrower.
September 20th, 2020 at 7:10 AM ^
Your momma throws like a shot putter.

September 19th, 2020 at 10:32 PM ^
Yeah, but if it weren’t for titles like this we’d all forget about Justin Feagin
September 19th, 2020 at 9:52 PM ^
Gardner was quoted in the Detroit News as saying about milton "He’s got the talent to be a No. 1 (NFL) pick at some point" Thats an eye opening statement. I am anxious to get a peek at his performance against defensive pressure.

Did Devin Gardner go the Fred Jackson School of Hyperbole?
September 19th, 2020 at 10:42 PM ^
Fred Jackson may have “just“ coached the running backs when Devin was on the team, but he coached everyone in hyperbole.
September 19th, 2020 at 11:16 PM ^
I absolutely think he has all the tools to be a #1 pick. Does he put it all together is another story.
September 20th, 2020 at 8:24 AM ^
I know you're making a joke, but Milton 100% has the physical tools that would have some team pick him in the top 5-10. Tall, reasonable quick, huge arm. If he has a few good seasons, he could get picked really high
September 19th, 2020 at 10:34 PM ^
You do realize some people just say shit, right? Also, that there’s practically zero downside to him saying something like that and it not coming true?
September 20th, 2020 at 8:21 AM ^
There is weight in the words of an actual quarterback who played at Gardner's level as apposed to people like you and I who know how to type words on Mgo.
September 19th, 2020 at 11:15 PM ^
Of course he does. He’s huge, he can run, and he can throw the ball out of the stadium. If he gets his completion percentage above 65% and keeps his turnovers down, he’ll be a high pick.
September 19th, 2020 at 10:08 PM ^
Can anyone imagine how bad Michigan football would have been without Devin Gardner? He gave, and seeming is still giving, everything he has for Michigan.
I’m 100% focused on Joe Milton, nothing else really matters. He is the future of Michigan football and knowing that Devin Gardner has helped position Joe to take advantage of this opportunity on strengthens that sentiment.
Good to talk football!

I hope Joe does well and can be our starter for at least two years. But JJ will be waiting in the wings next year.

IMO, Vince Young and Devin Gardner were essentially the same player, just surrounded with different talent and coaching staffs.
September 19th, 2020 at 10:46 PM ^
No offense to Devin, but he was not the running threat Vince Young was. Otherwise, the comparison is good.
September 20th, 2020 at 12:26 AM ^
You are mis-remembering how explosive Gardener was as a runner.
September 20th, 2020 at 12:52 PM ^
Watch Vince Young in the Rose Bowl against us and USC and get back to me.
September 20th, 2020 at 1:41 PM ^
He was not the same running threat because the offensive coaches were not adept at creating running opportunities in the same way.
September 20th, 2020 at 7:42 AM ^
Agree Magnus, great comparison.
My biggest concern is JM was Pep guy, and everything we saw on the field and at practice was: JM was slower than expected, and had very little to no touch. Having a cannon is great (see PatM) but how often in a game does having an arm to throw it over them Mountains really matter?
There was no hesitation when SP got banged up last year who the first guy off the bench was... In fact, at times last year CM was probably ahead of JM as the 3rd string.
I have a hard time believing that the light came on after working hard with DG all summer, and that JM is now CAM. I pray I'm wrong.
I also know that there is more to this DM stuff. DM was at the protests and practicing as QB1 or QB1a since August. All of a sudden, after no practices with pads, JM is #1 (still not announced). Also, coach has not said a single word about it. Usually around this time he's talking about a meritocracy and iron sharpening iron. Combine that with the fact DM was on campus all Summer and is set to graduate. Color me skeptical.
Cheers
