DetNews's Charboneau breaks news: Michigan fans disrespect Sparty by attending MI wedding

Cousins stood up at three weddings in Grand Rapids, MI.  During the receptions, some guests introduced themselves as Michigan fans to him.   In his mind this is disrespectful, and so he will thus harness such disrespect to get to the Rose Bowl.

Also, any internet articles or magazines that don't give him the respect in a manner in which he wants will be used to "kindle a fire beneath" his team.

These fans and writers will be tragic heroes when it's all said and done.

"So being at those wedding receptions is about all the motivation I needed to get back to work and prove to all those people why they shouldn't be a Michigan fan."
"I told my brother, Kyle, the other day to go on the Internet and find every article he can find, every preseason magazine he can find and compile a list of all the quotes, articles, anything that disrespects us or doesn't give us our due," he said. "I want copies made of those and I want to put them in front to the team during training camp. He's already got a pile and believe me, come two or three weeks into training camp, I'll put that up at night and be sure it kindles a fire beneath us."
"I saw a preseason magazine cover which said in the bottom corner, 'Title time for Spartans?' Cousins said. "I wanted to tell them we won the title last year, title time was last year. We're looking to repeat, so we do still feel overlooked and that Big Ten championship was somewhat forgotten by a lot of people, and that's fine."

How is MSU not getting it's deserved respect? Seriously, no one reputable is picking them less than 3rd in the division and a strong contender for the B1G title. It seems like he's grasping at straws here.

He's grasping at major straws.  They just won their first conference title in 20 years.  When programs traditionally suck for decades and then have one outstanding year like MSU, I've noticed it's common for their fans to feel majorly insulted if you don't consider their program elite and predict they start finishing anywhere but tops in their conference.  Iowa fans acted like this pretty hardcore when Kirk Ferentz had his first breakout year in 2002.

Why is he so insulted that people introduced themselves as Michigan fans?  Talk about reaching.  This is right up there with Drew Stanton calling us the University of Puke before the 2006 game.

At my work, some guy kept coming in posting a poster to come to this event that featured kirk cousins. I tored it down everytime he put it up. He posted 4 posters and came in to check it out again the 5th time and saw it tore down. He approached my boss and asked why the posters were never up when he came in? My boss looked at him and said, "Nobody likes msu here." He walked out and left. Haven't seen him since.

Threads like this show there are plenty of bozo UM fans out there. Some valiantly try to pull the bozos back, but there are too many of them.

The fact that those people who introduce themselves to Cousins think they need to reveal that they are fans of UM says lots about them -- not Cousins. Would you go up to the best man at a Jewish wedding and say, "Nice toast. By the way, I'm a Christian." Why bring it up at all? If asked, of course you give the honest answer.

Of course, these UM fans probably thought they were being magnanimous. "I'm a UM fan, but see how I'm going up to talk the the MSU QB?"

Nice to see the arrogance is still there after three poor seasons. And how many games has Hoke won at UM so far?

I do think Cousins is being a little overhyped, but plenty of NFL draft experts have him going as the second QB in the draft. So he's "fooling" lots of people.

So you're claiming Christians and Jews are rivals? Funny, I never got the memo. Is the game at a church or synagogue this year? Reaching a little with that analogy.

Maybe the UM fans were, and this is a crazy concept, having fun at a wedding.  While it's possible some idiots decided to be dicks to a kid just trying to enjoy himself at a wedding, it's also perfectly possible they did it in jest. Jest that by many people would take as either slightly dickish or just not a big deal.  While I would never do it, I don't think it's a big deal.  I'm sure nobody's every introduced themselves to Denard as an OSU or MSU fan or anything.

I think the crazy thing is that team is reaching for motivation in this particular place...does he actually think they're going to convert Michigan fans if they beat us again? I'd think all the motivation they'd need is from Iowa and Alabama.  It seems like the team whose lost 3 straight should be the ones angered by petty comments like this, not the other way around.  What's surprising about this is that Cousins seems like a real smart kid, especially after watching his speech at media days.  It just goes to show that Dantonio's major motivation tactic is and will be, "no one respects you, everybody likes Michigan, you have something to prove." From his retort back at Mike Hart (a head coach responding to a 22 year old, just to make fun of his height, is embarassing) to recent dismissive comments about Brandstatter, it shows that he just always feels the need to run his mouth.

and I feel very confident that a starting Michigan QB wouldn't take such offense--or any offense at all for that matter--to people in their twenties introducing themselves as MSU fans during wedding receptions in the state of Michigan.  Especially when it's a Michigan QB who has a publicly-recognizable face.

I do really think it's cool though how you can--where no one else seems to be able to--"read between the lines" and see the intent of those fans who approached and introduced themselves to Cousins as one of charity b/c they were "feeling magnanimous."  These imaginary introductions lead you to conclude that "the arrogance is still there after three poor seasons."  Houses full of pride but built with straws, sir.

I think you and kirk cousins should go bowling.

"When we come out of the gates, Youngstown State isn't going to disrespect us anymore! Then the next week we'll show Florida Atlantic what they get for not giving us our due! Two weeks later we'll arrive on the national stage by sticking it to Central, even though nobody believes in us!"

That’s how it starts with the Spartan youth, first the urge to burn magazines, then they move on to books, next thing they know their burning stuff like couches, forgetting where the hate originated.

If Cousins thinks two seasons can override more than a century of tradition and dominance, then he just doesn't understand the rivalry.

Oooh, they beat the three worst teams in mi football history. Color me impressed.

<br>Msu is the most overrated, self centered program in the nation. Pride comes before the fall spartina!!!

If you read the comment in context, I was referring to the fact that they believe they're going to  have another great season this year - something I have serious doubts about.  While they have a chance at a solid season, there's also a chance they go back to flirting with .500.  I acknowledge reality, and am embarassed that we've lost to them for 3 years straight.  I don't go peacocking around with crazy expectations for us, I'm just saying they should temper theirs after a miracle season that include embarrassing losses, especially when they lost a lot of key starters.

I'm glad you feel the need to:

1. Be the master of Michigan fans' repuation

2. Judge me from one comment that apparently you didn't read correctly

3. Already write off the game against them this year as a loss

A century of dominance? I'm sure the 1966 Spartans would've gotten a good laugh out of that. You had your pre-automobile dominance, then MSU had their turn, then you took over again. Now it's MSU that's back on top, and no amount of 19th century national championships over Ann Arbor High School can change that.

Kind of OT but I was at the Tigers game on Friday with some buddies and a few aholes tried starting a "go green, go white" chant.  We immediately silenced them with our "Go home!" and "Can't read, can't write" chants.  They literally didn't cheer the rest of the game.

We're overlooking the fact that Cousins had THREE friends who got married during the span of ONE summer. Cousins isn't even out of college yet, who are these friends of his who are so eager to get married and have him in their wedding party?
