Desmond Howard as Outspoken as Ever
Desmond Howard is interviewed in this non-paywalled TheWolverine.com piece by Michael Spath.
Howard talks about his soon to be released book, his expectations for Michigan this season, what he thinks the hallmarks of a Hoke-led team will be, Stonum vs. Floyd, and the possible fate of the number 21 jersey.
On whether Michigan should use No. 21 like it has used No. 1 and will use No. 2, as jerseys that must be earned: "You should ask Brady about that. I just got inducted to the Hall of Fame. I have no idea why I'm not getting the same treatment. [Editor's Note: he said this tongue-in-cheek].
"Maybe they may have something different in store for No. 21. It may not even be available for them to earn."

The guy was outspoken on the field. He's still outspoken.
He bleeds Maize and Blue and I love that about him.

Thank you for expounding. My sentiments exactly!

You think Floyd shouldn't be punished? Let's be honest here, what Floyd did was not as bad as Stonum, there is no doubt about that, but there are a lot things you can do in terms of discipline that fall between none at all and being suspended for a year too.
This is Floyds third alcohol related offense and he is not going to miss a single snap. Look at Hagerup who had one offense and was suspended for the biggest game of the year last year. A situation that left us without a punter.
Look at Hagerups second offense...what is that, four games? Now look at Brian Kelly giving Floyd nothing more than a stern look. You honestly think Desmond is wrong when saying Kelly is sacrificing a lot for a win? I don't....

At least he has an excuse to have such a big head, I guess. I don't, but that's never stopped me.

ehh i dont agree w/ retiring the number BUT he has earned the right to say that soooo....

The students would love it.
I was a freshman & sitting in Michigan Stadium the last time he did it in A2 (that is unless he secretly does it when he visits A2 on his spare time).

Desmond and Jalen together sure would be an interesting show. Both of them are not afraid to let it fly.

Before the game like he said he would. That would make my day. Michigan beating ND a couple hours later would make my night.

I love him, but I don't love everything he says.

TBH, he has one horrible incident, which is the DUI. The MIPs are pretty meh to me. Deal with it internally and let's move on.

What did Hagerup get for his one incident? Just playing devil's advocate here. We know the incident isn't comparable to Stonum, but this is a third alcohol related offense. So he has been charge three times and for a DUI he misses....wait for it....nothing. I don't know what Hagerup did last year but I will bet my life it wasn't as serious as a DUI, and for his first offense he missed the most important game of the season that left us without a punter. His second offense (again, I am betting much worse than a DUI) he is missing four games for. I'd say Kelly is being a tad easy on the guy.

"This will not end well."

The Board seems to be behaving itself better today. Or maybe Desmond hired a better PR assistant.

is the least of his problems. And speaking just for myself, it was never the MGoBoard that worried me.
Somebody needs to insert "clear thinking" in between Desmond and his Twitter keyboard.

Desmond Howard is the true definition of a Michigan Man. I love how he speaks his mind and IMO he has earned the right to say whatever he damn well pleases.... #21

Braylon Edwards might be "the true definition of a Michigan Man" too.

of Desmond striking the pose outside the big house. Go Blue.

Yeah but there already is a statue of that pose. It's called the Heisman Trophy. Also, I'm wary of dedicating a statue to anyone who is still alive.

is also out in your view?
August 14th, 2011 at 12:47 PM ^
but i think we should honor Desmond with him striking the pose...kind of like how the Tigers have honored some of the greats at CoAmerica Park.

Why did Desmond not wear #1? Was it just not the hot number for receivers until after his time?
August 14th, 2011 at 1:22 AM ^
wore #1 when Desmond was at Michigan, Alexander was a really good reciever also. Derrick ended up being a 1st round pick and had a decent NFL career.

Plus, if I recall, Desmond came in as a RB.

This post made me think. Whose numbers are retired for Michigan? As long as i've been a Michigan fan I've never really heard of or researched anything about Michigan Football numbers that are retired. If his isn't retired I would say he's at least earned the right to have a say in who wears the number 21. Hoke has shown he's in control, I don't see him just giving that number out to just anyone.

He wasn't able to fit his head through the doorways any more. He also has to enter the ESPN offices through the freight entrance because the front door isn't wide enough.
August 14th, 2011 at 7:52 AM ^
The numbers 11, 47, 48, 87 and 98 are retired at Michigan. They are for the triplets, President Ford, Oosterban, Kramer and Harmon.

lucky he wasn't playing same time as A.C. that is all.

controversy seems to follow him wherever he seeks it.
