Day 1 Fall Practice Video - New Helmet Stickers
@UMichFootball Twitter posted a day 1 football practice video, which I'll try to embed, but if that doesn't work then click here.
There are several scenes where you can see helmet stickers – which I don't remember being around in fall practice before (but my memory isn't great, either). There's a good image of the new stickers on this SI article:
Do the players use the same helmet for fall camp that they do during the rest of the season? If so, does that mean they're going to start out with helmet stickers in the first game? Or will some interns be making use of several bottles of Goo Gone on the night of September 3rd?

Not a fan of the stickers . They look too cluttered . Keep it simple .
Run of the mill practice video made to look like a hype video complete with backing music. Felt like I was watching a HS player's recruiting video. Not a fan of this new thing.
Good thing they are not trying to appeal to you.
I just harken back to the good ole days of, hmm 2 years ago, when we got to see a handful of live plays from start to finish.
Maybe the staff thought they were giving away all their best kept secrets. /s
You mean the one where we throw the ball for a first down? Yeah.... we better keep that one under wraps until the osu game.

If Michigan was trying to capture all of 2020 in a collection of helmet stickers they excelled in their mission.

I need a key or a legend for the meaning of some of the helmet stickers. What is "TED"? Why do some have numbers and what do the numbers mean?
August 8th, 2021 at 12:26 PM ^
The font of "TED" makes it look like a reference to TED Talks, but who knows why. Beyond that, it looks like the traditional Wolverine, rivalry trophies, and some others I can't make out. We'll probably need someone with insider knowledge to have any idea what's actually going on.

Add letter winner, academic all big ten, and the numbers are the win number of the program.

I can feel that part where they fill up the water bottle. Sore quads after running Steelers, 300s or doing down-ups.
You didn’t happen to catch the women’s 10000m in the Olympics yesterday did you? Immediately after the race, the winner is beyond exhausted and on the ground begging for water. There’s a cameraman getting in her face as this poor women is literally crying out for help and water. For some reason, it took them forever to get her water. It really pissed me off and was a bad look for the Olympics.
Glad I wasn’t the only one that was bothered by that. I was like “ok I get the camera man doesn’t have the water…but where the fuck is the medical team?” In that heat for that length of a race and inside the stadium, the medical team should have been waiting at the finish line with cold water for everyone or at least right off the track . It took wayyyy too long to get her help.
Nonstop nose hair camera angles in the Olympics. It was ridiculous. It doesn't make the viewing experience any better when I can see their pores. I don't think it was an NBC thing. You could tell in a lot of the broadcasts they didn't have control over things like replays.
Someone's hyped for the season when they see players drink water and think "Hell yeah!" :)

Awesome. This should fix everything.
Take a few deep breaths and smile.

Looks like Harbaugh was productive this summer.
If it’s a practice/pre-season thing, the stickers are totally fine!
If the stickers are in-game, then they’ll probably look terrible. Not because of the stickers themselves, but because the helmet already has maize wings and stuff running down it and the addition of stickers always looked bad. Only teams with exceptionally plain helmets like OSU can pull it off.
I prefer my gel with some flavor, thx
Damn iPhone autocorrect!
Did I see an Erick All drop about 20 seconds in? *sigh*
Looks like it was actually Haskins
*Edit* soooo....you're right. that was All, Haskins was a little earlier in the clip. My bad.
It looked like Haskins pass was defended.
Lol. For real. Someone else at TE better step up because great hands typically don’t just develop at 20. You’re either coordinated or you’re not.
Also, wtf is “TED” stickers? If that’s related to Ted talks then that’s extremely lame.
My optimistic eyes saw good coverage and a nice play on the ball by Hawkins.
Yep, that was good coverage for the 1.5 seconds that we saw of the play. Not attacking you, I am attacking the producer(s) of the video. They are taking away the general fans' opportunity to see anything substantive.
Yes it was.
This board will bitch about absolutely anything. I get the losing to OSU (or to anyone else). There are plenty of things to complain about, but when we get down to bitching about stickers, I've had enough.
I'm not bitching about them, and if they help motivate the team (thought they probably don't) then fine, but I do prefer the clean look.
As big a fan of stickers as I am in my personal and professional life, I absolutely detest them on Michigan football helmets.
I just want to know who Ted is?
Maybe this will help:
Rob Lytle's helmet from 1976. I liked the stickers back then, but I was young teenager, and the team was arguably the best in the midwest.
Wow what a great 50 second video 15 seconds of which were filled with guys painting lines on the field
I'm stoked
Man you are such a whiner! And it was 5 seconds - not 15.
No opinion on the stickers.
Looks like the rehydration team is already in midseason form, though.
They are not game stickers. They're to show their accomplishments from the off season. It's literally the 1st practice of the fall camp. No they will not be on their helmets for the 1st game. Too much knee jerk reaction and not enough common sense.
Welcome to mgoblog
Really just the internet in general.
Josh Ross with a pass defensed. Hawkins defending All (not sure if defensed or drop). Dixon makes a play on Jalen Perry. RJ Moten with a pick.
All completions are bad defense. All incompletions are bad offense.
That was a great move by Dixon. Great to see from a rookie!! (I know, freshman, not rookie) He needs to put on some muscle. Looked slight.
I came away thinking the exact opposite. Not that it wasn’t a good catch by Dixon, but rather that it was a terrible play by Jalen Perry.
Maybe so. But still, for a rookie, I like it.
Part of the reason why Harbaugh has to go. These helmet stickers are ridiculous. Don’t ruin a great thing.
I also prefer the clean look over the sticker look, but saying the stickers are "part of the reason why Harbaugh has to go" is idiotic.
There is an old YouTube showing the equipment manager removing all of the stickers and repainting the helmets for each game.
I HATE helmet stickers. Stickers for doing a good job is what kindergarteners get for coloring within the lines. Not for grown men making a nice block.
The only thing that caught my eye was the horrendous play on the ball by Jalen Perry at 20 seconds. Held the receiver the whole time, got turned around, and didn’t locate the ball until it was in the receivers hands for a TD.
