Welp.

If Dawson ends up at Ohio can I dislike him immensely, or must I still say things like: "Good luck except Michigan week"?
October 18th, 2012 at 7:42 PM ^
I am thinking the same thing.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:01 PM ^
Its all Florida. He has a top 1 for all practical purposes.

into his mind when he put Ohio up there as a finalist. Seriously?

I do. I also remember having enough pride in myself to not let other people dictate my decisions like that.
Edit: Didn't make this clear before. By this I mean that I find it very unlikely that he's doing this out of spite. A couple tweets aren't enough to drive someone to make important life decisions. Why is it so unbelievable that he'd actually want to go to OSU? Several thousands of people do every year.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:58 PM ^
Just because he SAYS that Ohio State is in his top four doesn't mean they actually are. He could be saying that just to piss us off, but not be really considering them.
I still think he'll pick Florida.
October 18th, 2012 at 9:59 PM ^
Agreed - anyone who has been on this site long enough knows that Top 5's are basically transitory. And I don't understand the freakout here -- do we feel bad because a big time recruit didn't want us? Truth is - recruits don't really care about us, the fans. They care about the coaches. And TV time. And maybe campus life (which doesn't really include us, "the fans"). And if we're sad about the fact that we don't currently have a top OG coming in, I say don't worry about Dawson. Hoke wants kids who can be decisive and strong, on and off the field. After all, that's the reason Hoke has his "no visit" policy. Understanding all of this goes a long way when it comes to chilling out about Dawson, and recruiting in general.
October 18th, 2012 at 8:03 PM ^
Yes, I do. And I didn't make my college choice just to spite someone else. And I doubt Dawson will.

I remember being 17, and there was one quality that I would imagine still holds true for 17-year olds today: every time an adult tried to read my mind, he or she was wrong.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:42 PM ^
He knew the rules before he committed. And he knew the consequences for de-committing.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:58 PM ^
If he wanted to "get back" at a fanbase after he pulled his commitment, then by all means go for it but I don't see the reason.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:01 PM ^
Well... that's not going to make many friends.
Go Gators?
October 18th, 2012 at 7:03 PM ^
Free to go Ohio State if he pleases, but like people who were against women's suffrage and desegregation, he'll be on the wrong side of history.

Yes, a high school kid is a "douche" for listing schools he is interested in. College football makes some people delusional.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:13 PM ^
I agree "douche" is a bit much. But he's not just listing schools he's interested in. Let's be honest here, listing Ohio is not exactly a cool move.
October 18th, 2012 at 8:58 PM ^
I remember a lot of "douches" and "douche bags" in high school. It's highly plausible that Dawson is a douche.
October 18th, 2012 at 8:23 PM ^
Although jumping to conclusions about a high school kids motives and criticizing his them as "a douche move" is over the top and unnecessary, you are misquoting him; he didn't call the kid a douche, he said it was "a douche move." Maybe I'm just nit-picking. Also, isn't Ohio also short on Olinemen, so there would probably be early playing time there?
October 18th, 2012 at 7:04 PM ^
Am I the only one who finds that extremely odd? For a guy to make comments about how much he liked Michigan at one point to naming Ohio in his top 4...just seems off. Granted everything points to him heading to Gainesville, but it almost comes off as sour grapes.
I wish him luck in all of his future endeavors, but at this point I hope he commits to Florida soon so this saga can be over with.

If you want the spotlight like he seems to, then you need to have thicker skin. I don't follow or tweet any athletes, so I don't accompany the group you speak of, but I guess odd wasn't the right word to use. How about immature, matching the behavior of the twitter haters?

... more in a "He's dead to me, now" sort of way. He can list anybody he wants, go to any school he wants, I simply don't care. If I hear his name again, the reaction I will have is, "Oh, he's the guy that almost went to Michigan, oh well". I'll care for him as much as I care for Florida or OSUs existing starting left guard, which is to say not at all, not ever, not even when playing against Michigan.
And you know what? He won't care what I think, and shouldn't care what I think. That's fine too. But I'm entitled to think it, because that's what I think about anybody that doesn't put the winged helmet on.

October 18th, 2012 at 7:07 PM ^
So...his top 4 is the school he will likely end up at....his old schools main rival, a team who smashed michigan to start the season and a team whose coach used to coach at michigan.
yea, i'm gonna say that is all to get a response.

Poggi/Hurst running him over constantly, yea i can live with that.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:56 PM ^
So now that he's not coming here, people are just gonna run him over? Lets not be like Ohio fans, please.
October 18th, 2012 at 8:16 PM ^
Not "people." He wouldn't have been going up against Poggi or Hurst before. The poster didn't say he sucked, just that our defensive line is going to run everyone over, including him if he goes to OSU

How do you go from a UM commit to putting OSU in the top 4? It doesn't make any sense. I just don't understand that and don't like it, and think it speaks to what he is about. I don't wish negatively upon him, but I also don't think very highly of him. Go to OSU, it will only fuel the fire.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:36 PM ^
being committed to Ohio and taking multiple visits to Michigan (Dunn) or being committed to Tressel and then bailing for Hoke (Kalis). For all the differences between Michigan and Ohio, they both have strong selling points and both recruit out of the same, small pool of super-elite athletes; it's not like there are a shortage of recruits with both in their top-five, three or two.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:12 PM ^
Drama, Drama, Drama
October 18th, 2012 at 9:15 PM ^
Agreed. Never thought this kid would turn into a drama queen when I first heard about him. Maybe he will start giving "buckle-up" tweets for Ohio now.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:12 PM ^
What's the point of getting all upset over someone who hasn't even proven himself at a college level yet? He committed too soon. So what? If he ends up at Ohio State, then you can dislike him, not because he was indecisive when he was 17 years old, but because he's now a hated rival. He is currently just another high school football player, trying to figure out where he wants to go to college. Nothing more.
October 18th, 2012 at 7:13 PM ^
you're spot on. Those tweets he recived were quite brutal.

I didn't know the master of metaphysics was contemplating going to the NFL. Perhaps his theory about man's place in the vast emptiness that is the universe will get Browns players thinking about the bigger picture instead of focusing on things like play calls and audibles.

That no hard feelings Michigan tweet he sent out at decommit time feels like a pre-emptive move to list ohio in his top 4.
