Dantonio in Coaching Box for Wisconsin Game

Submitted by tdeshetler on

Normally I don't have a lot of love for little bro, but good to see he's making progress and will be back in the box for the Wisconsin game this weekend.

[mod edit: He said he was going to ease into returning to normal. Does ease mean more than one weekend in the box? Interesting.]

I'm glad to hear that he will be back as well. I figure he will be in the pressbox this weekend and on the sideline for Oct 9th. He will use it to give his team an emotional lift coming into the Big House. I'm just hoping that people don't sell their tickets to Sparty fans and let them take over the stadium like they did 2 years ago. It's bad enough when they do it to Crisler.

it will be interesting to see how much stress these next 2 games bring on him.. can't imagine it is gonna be easy on his body

Glad to hear he's doing better.

And now that he's back, MSU fans won't be able to claim that RR is still technically winless against Dantonio in the Big Ten when we beat then next Saturday (you know they would).

Have yet to meet an MSU fan, alum, etc that doesn't think Dantonio will be on the sidelines Oct 9.  Already hearing the talk of the emothional lift his return will have on the team.  Yawn.

Not sure I'd be "yawning".  If they rally around him, that'll be a huge emotional boost.  I happen to remember a certain team rallying around a retiring Lloyd to take down a talented Florida team in the Capital One Bowl.

Now, whether or not that emotion will be enough to stop the dilithium death attack, that's a different story...

A few weeks ago, posters on this board laughed that MSU might be undefeated heading into AA next week.  The Wisconsin game, to me, is a toss up.  But if MSU wins and Coach D makes his return, physically, to the sidelines... it will be a huge lift for a game MSU will already be up for.

Having said that, Robinson has carved everyone up.  But key to this weekend is Cousins.  The past game-and-a-half he has settled down and looked pretty good.  If he progresses against Bucky, October 9th is shaping up to be an awesome setting.

I sincerely wish for two undefeated teams... and let 'er rip.  Maybe many of you don't want Sparty to gain an even footing with UM, which I think today they already have... but an long term, true MSU-UM rivalry would be an awesome thing.  Why not???

Dude, your team has played only one remotely loseable game, and won that game in overtime.  You have a right to be happy with the 4-0 start, but this isn't time to beat your chest on other teams' message boards.

How many emotional lifts can he provide the team?  You go out one week and win against N Colorado for the coach, then you win because he is in the press box, after the 3rd week the lift will be diminished.

I am glad to hear that he is doing better and able to get back into his job.

I know sport is competitive and all that, but seeing guys like Dantonio and Urban Meyer (with whatever that scare was about)  returning so quickly seems like they are playing with fire.  One of these days, some big name coach is going to drop dead on the sideline and the real tragedy will be that it was completely preventable.

He's heard so much about our posh new digs and found a way to get into the press box without breaking in. Can't blame him, they look awesome. He'll be back on the field the next week, bank it.

after we pound Sparty into the ground?

edit [pc police are out in full force. Like Dantonio would cackle with glee as he picked up the phone to call UM recruits if the situation was reversed. F him]

Your "Odds of him having another heart attack" post is reminiscent of the posters on RCMB who were posting how glad they were that Bo died and went so far as to evoke the Ernie Harwell firing to justify their utter lack of class.  I'm not in any position to tell anyone what to do or how to think, but Is there any way you can try to be a little more in line with the community standards here next time?

I detest all things Sparty, but I don't think Dantonio's heart attack or anything about it is the least bit funny.  When he heals fully and jokes about it himself, then I will probably think it is OK.  Until then, I want him to get better and get back out on the field.

Ohio State is, and always will be, THE rival.

Notre Dame to a lesser extent.  Michigan State is not on our plane, they are just another Big Ten team that just happens to be in the same state.  We should want to beat them the same way we want to beat Minnesota for the Jug.  They're not Michigan, they're not Ohio State, and they're not even Notre Dame.

I understand that you're just trying to dump on Sparty, but aside from the close matchups we've had in recent years (even before Rich), Michigan players have gone on TV and said MSU v. U of M is a much nastier game than U of M v. OSU. I believe it was Braylon and Navarre, it was on a gameday interview back when they were at U of M. It may not qualify as much with the english tone for the word rivalry (basically insinuates a battle between equals), but it's a matchup with a lot of animosity. These games are a lot more interesting than the Notre Dame games, I've never seen the U of M student base get riled up for the ND game like it is when we play MSU.

Looks like Dantonio is doing just fine (with this tweet from@mikerothstein):

Dantonio on Denard Robinson: "Denard Robinson, is that what you asked me? I'll assess that next week."

Good to see him fully recovered and back to total prick mode.  It'll be a joy to pound lil brother into the ground next week.

CRex

How is that being a prick?  Dantonio has to worry about Wisconsin's players this week and Denard next week.  The logical thing for Dantonio to do is focus on Wisconsin this week and then grab the game film from Indiana and start worrying about Denard.

Contrast Dantonio's remark with that of Tim Brewster, whose Gophers didn't play us last year nor will they play us this year:

"Obviously, you knew he had outstanding skill as a runner and an athlete, and the offense obviously is conducive for his ability, but I've been really struck by how well he's throwing the football, how accurately he's throwing the football. When you've got a guy like him who can do the things he can with his feet and then he can also stand in the pocket and make great throws all over the field, you've got one heck of a football player. I'm kind of amazed at his stats and the numbers and the things he's doing. He's obviously a very special player."

It's ok to comment on a player from another team that you obviously know a lot about.   He "started" worrying about Denard and every other Wolverine before the season even started.

CRex

So basically he refuses to give a fluffy little comment about Denard and we hate him now?

As for Brewster, he worries about a lot of things.  FCS Directional Teams from the Dakotas, making it out of the stadium alive, ever finding work again and such, so it only fair he worries about Dilithium.

You've been around for a while, you've seen all of the back handed comments he's thrown our way, I don't even need to name them. He's been on an all out campaign to elevate their perceived status in the State of Michigan, and largely attempting to do it at our expense.

Granted, he didn't say anything snarky here, but we all know damn well he's worried, and doesn't want to let on to any concerns. Which is fine, but wasn't it known last season that they had spent a day per week of practice every week leading up to the Michigan game? He tries to make himself and his program look better by attempting to marginalize our programs importance publicly, while privately they care more about beating us than anything else.

It's irritating, so I guess it's working at least a little.

This doesn't surprise me.  The question I still have is how involved he'll be during the week.    Gameday coaching is a small part of the job.  Football coaches work insane hours during the season.  Is he going to put in the usual 100-hour week to prepare for Michigan?   If not, will it affect the Spartans' readiness?  They certainly were well-prepared for us the past two years (most notably, they regularly jumped our snap count).  I wonder if that will be the case this time.
