Guess it was a mere formality at this point, but Damien Harris just released a top 5 that didn't include Michigan. Happy trails.
Guess it was a mere formality at this point, but Damien Harris just released a top 5 that didn't include Michigan. Happy trails.
I know you were kidding, but I've said this several times before: swapping a high-level OC in Nuss for Borges is worth 10 Damien Harrises. I'd take that trade every time, and I'm sure many others would as well.
BUT THATS 50 STARZZZ!!!
even if Borges was still the coach. He was not known as dynamic recruiters.
but harris had stars man.. everyone know's that how many stars a running back has at recruitment equates to how many thousands of yards he will run for.
I'd take that trade ANY day, and apparently we have. I'm not sweating it as I think we have a good stable of RB's already.
Al Borges is a nice guy BUT our 2014 offense will really make you realize how bad we were.
I guess he'll never get to meet Ronaldo then.
Don't scare away our recruits with the prospect of having to meet that douchebag.
Well that's just like, your opinion man.
Ha, TAMU offered him today.
Best of luck to Mr. Harris. Hope he goes Big Blue if he can't Go Blue.
Was just about to post this. I'd say the coaches obv knew this was coming with how much they're focusing on Weber. Commence Friday drinking!! Go Blue tho!!!
On the sweet new socks...loser!
...never hear his name again.
Dee Hart anyone?
Where does Thad think he is going?
Texas A & M (who i think just offered today)
You would be correct.
According to his 247 page and the accompanying timeline, Texas A&M offered mere hours ago, but this also says that he is expected to make a visit to Ohio State in late November as well. Actually, the date mentioned - 11/28 - is the day before The Game.
Discuss how it was possible that both Green and Smith rushed for over 100 yds each!!
Good luck to him but
His new top five is four SEC teams (including one that offered him only yesterday) and one other school with a head coach who is steeped in SEC recruiting practices. What could po$$ibly be the common factor?
Hope he's prepared for a Twitter shitstorm from a bunch of weirdos!
It's better this happened now and not 6 months from now. Good luck to the kid!
I bet he will be in the SEC!
I get that his decommitment has a lot to do with our season last year, but I have trouble believing he's a life long Michigan fan. An upgraded move at coordinator wouldn't cause a life long fan to drop that easily. If it's because of the season results, just say it; don't give me some bullshit about Borges and his HS coach. When he committed, his HS coach was quoted as saying that he told Damien before he committed that coordinators could change, and Michigan could go 0-12, and Damien still decided to commit. Don't get me wrong, however, I wish the kid the best, he's an incredible talent, and by most accounts a stand up kid.
Just because he's going to play elsewhere doesn't mean that he's not a lifelong fan. He's just doing what he thinks is best for him and his football future. With the exception of Kentucky still being on the list, all of those programs are pretty top-notch.
Seriously - how dare he not divulge his real reasons to everyone he's never met. It's like he doesn't even care about us.
I get that it's your immediate reaction here, but come on....none of us have all of the details here. It sure seems like M has put all their eggs in the Weber basket for one. And while Harris' relationship with Borges didn't help things when he got fired, I'm sure it has more to do with Damien's first brush with what college football is, first and foremost - a business. And as such, he has to make a business decision more than an emotional one (being an M fan growing up and idolizing Hart). Let's not forget that Derrick Green grew up a lifelong OSU fan, wears #27 to honor Eddie George and yet he and OSU went their separate ways.
And most of all, he was 16 when he made his M commitment. I can't tell you the number of things I absolutely believed at 16 and then 10 months later, completely did not believe anymore.
Believed in Santa Clause and the Boogeyman at 16. 10 months later I solved both of those mysteries!
earn a +1 from me every time!
The Marx Brothers were comedy geniuses. I still gets laughs watching YouTube clips of Groucho's TV show You Bet Your Life that I recall watching when they were first broadcast in the '50s. For my generation, Groucho's quiz question, "Who's buried in Grant's Tomb?" became the standby question to prove how smart (or not so smart) we were.
Plus One for you.
I think people throw that phrase "fan" around and it means different things to different people. I was a "fan" of the Miami Dolphins growing up because Dan Marino was my favorite player, but I watched maybe 1-2 games per year, and rarely even knew if they won or lost most weekends. Whereas I was also a Michigan fan at the same time and Michigan winning or losing was the difference between me being suicidal or on Cloud 9 for a week. Who knows what he really meant when he said he was a lifelong fan?
Exactly. Kids are "fans" of a lot. I was a Charlotte Hornets fan when I was a kid because I liked Larry Johnson and their colors. I had a metal Charlotte Hornets waste basket in my bedroom and a Larry Johnson poster. Not sure I watched more than a few Hornets games a year, or cared to, but when I asked I would say they were my favorite team. I also had University of Arizona basketball shorts. Kids' fandoms are weird and often times not terribly strong.
College is completely different in regards to fandom, simply because players change far more often than in the pros in most cases. In general, if you like a college team, you do so because of the team itself.
Umm, it's weird, bordering on inappropriate, to be on this blog, posting comments about recruiting, and not mention Glen Rice on those Hornets teams w/ Zo & Granmama.
Glen the reason I rooted those Hornets
Sorry Wolvin- I didn't see whose comments I was replying to. You have many thousands time more cred on this site than I'll ever have! my bad...
still, Glen Rice, cumong man!
Thank your avatar and Borges for this in putting Michigan's worst rushing year ever on a platter for Harris to consume in judging his football future at Michigan. It will sting if he ends up at Ohio, and I will never forgive Funk or Borges for life if this kid turns into the next Barry Sanders.
You lost me.
that guy and remind you that there is no "next" Barry Sanders.
Barry was unique in his set of talents and never to be duplicated nor replicated.
Barry Sanders Jr is illegitimate??? Wow. Shocked.
True. Add the fact that we were not recruiting him to play fan, and it is moot.
of negative recruiting! I'm sure all the opposing HC are telling him that Hoke will be gone next season since Michigan will lose 4 or 5 games again. I think we may be back on his list if Hoke has a turnaround season!
Both your skepticism and the kid's interest in other schools are understandable. I am a life-long Michigan fan too, but I considered MSU when they showed a little bit of interest in me as a baseball player in high school. Fandom means less to kids.
Can't say I'm surprised. Better now than later. We can focus on Weber now 100%
time to move and find another option, hopefully Mike Weber
Do we blame this on ThadMattasagoblin too?
(I kid ThadMattasagoblin - I never fully got the disdain for him around here.)
Wish the kid the best. Would love to have him but Mike Weber is an in state guy so full court press time. I think Harris will be SEC bound. Got 4 text messages from members of my golf club, who are buckeye fans, (I am the Head Golf Professional)... I told them their lesson rates just went up as well as certain (club charges) that might appear on their account.
I hear Dee Hart.
Life will go on.
Too many good players available to worry about losing one.
I guess we can call this the Friday drinking thread
We have Green, Smith & Ty in the stable with Mikey Weber on the way.
Happy trails & good luck to Mr Harris. I do hope he is smarter than to sign with Urbs.
Must have been all of that negative recruiting from Borges.
DAMN YOU AL!!!!
Thank god we came finally stop worrying about a kid none of us even know personally. No more Al Borges talk, no more hand-ringing about him at all. Goodbye Harris, you're moving on, and Michigan is moving on.
Now onto worrying about the rest of the kids none of us knows lol. I get your point though. All-in on Weber, which it seems like that's what they've been doing more and more recently.
On the chance the kid goes to Ohio and becomes anything resembling Barry Sanders then I think you might hear his name and Borges' name thrown around a few times in the future around these parts.
If Damien Harris goes to Ohio and plays for Urban, and proceeds to rush for 2,600+ yards in a Heisman Trophy-winning junior year and then goes on to be among the top 3 RBs ever in the NFL, I will eat my hat.
I hope he never sniffs the playoff and regrets this decision for 4 years. Neg away ya bunch of namby pambys.
ok. Thanks for the info.
No hard feelings. Go do what's best for you.
Unless you end up at OSU. In which case I hope you do well, but have the 3-4 worst games of your career against Michigan.
(I'm thinking that's a phrase not a lot of MGoBloggers have heard) Anyway, I don't care much about this development as it's been in the cards for months now. Time to move on everyone. The good news is we already have a lot of stud running backs in the house for the next 3 years.
It was clear He wasn't coming here for awhile. It's Weber or bust at RB
Another strange recruiting process of a 5 star prospect that grew up a wolverine fan has come to an end. Ty Isaac, good back up
Will do that to your recruiting. I'm more worried about O/D line production and What Coach Nuss brings to the table than any recruit at this point.
This has more to do with Borgas being fired than anything else.
I think Harris is the guy that committed because his high school coach was coached by and loves Al Borges. When m canned Borges, it all went downhill. It's not a record thing, maybe George Campbell was though.
have we gotten any OL attributed to Nuss yet? serious question
Good luck to Mr. Harris. 1 player does not a team make. GOBLUE
felt he was an actual complete package at RB; size, speed, catches it well. All our RBs seem to be missing something pretty substantial to their game. Isaac being the most gifted of the bunch but I still think he's too tall and upright....
I really hope he goes to Ohio State...
Hopefully M can get Weber.
May not matter much is Isaac has to red shit this year though.
I hope he doesn't have to red shit.
Sounds like it could be trouble.
Why? You got something against beets?
ha...last yr i thought i was internally bleeding after bathroom visuals, and was quite in scared denial.... Only to realize later it was after eating a big plate of beets
Bring on KAREEM WALKER. that dude is the man
I BLAME THADMATTASGOBLIN
I know everyone thinks Ohio is the favorite to land him but I wouldn't count out Saban and his voodoo. Sad to see him go but we seem to have a good stable of backs for the future. We also seem to be in good contention with some 2016 backs.
Was awesome, sorry to thread jack
It was great.
Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.
Well this really sucks, I really hoped he recommit been a big fan of his since I saw his freshman highlight tape.
I thought he was headed to OSU but I though we'd remain in the top 3. Falling completely out of the top 5 is pretty interesting considering this was his childhood dream school.
Anyhow I am not concerned about any 1 player. Unless he is TJ Yeldon or Fournette I think running game success is 80% line and 20% RB. Under Carr we had a good running game every year without having guys who were super high end NFL RBs - but we had high end OL players constantly. If you have the right OL the RB is more or less plug in play if you get just about any group of four star RBs in the backfield. All my eyes remain on this OL - if that develops correctly, with the type of RBs we recruit we will be more than fine. If not, than it wont matter who the RBs are.
Supposing Mr. Harris choses Ohio I hope he recalls they had an 80% senior OL last season. While I don't expect a tire fire this year, I also don't expect a repeat performance.
Meanwhile Michigan's OL is on the rise. Things can only get better, and will. 29 for 29 is a thing of the past. We also now have official tight ends too who can block, no offense to TEs who were amazing receivers but less than amazing blockers.
Despite the complete lack of hype my gut feeling is Mr. Isaac is going to tear up the field at Stadium and Main one day soon, making him a completely greater replacement.
No hard feelings to Harris, but its completely weird he was a recruit who wanted to play for Borges above all others.
Let me preface this by saying UM's line should be a lot better in 2015, 2016 unless we truly have a tire fire coaching staff.
But (a) saying it's on the rise is not saying much considering it was probably the worst OL in the country last year and (b) we have no idea if the OL will just be average in 2015-2016. It could be. Or it could be above average. Or great. Who knows - you don't, I don't. Just going by HS Starz and plugging and playing and saying "wow great things you are missing out on" is not a helpful exercise. Name me one established elite OL we have. The answer is none.
As for OSU losing players, they are recruiting just like we are at OL so to project our OL to be great down the road and not OSU's is wearing massive maize shades. In fact OSU has the advantage as their OL coach produced one of the best OLs in the nation and is getting talent on par with Michigan's to coach now. Meanwhile UM's OL coach has major questions over his head.
Last point, I dont think kids are as analytical as you. Most look at recent results and the relationships and go from there. Projecting the 2017 OL is not what a RB is going to do.
I'll bet you $1 that our line will be better than last years. 2014 will be closer to 2012 than 2013.
This has nothing at all to do with recruiting stars. I don't know who was ranked where.
ESPN would have done a documentary on it.
I love the reference Muttley...but he would have needed 3 more runs before ESPN would be interested.
but the poster above said 29-for-29 and I just lazily went with it.
I suppose I should have noted the "I dumped the Dope" username.
I was a lifelong fan of his, but I think I'll change my mind now now and root for Michigan.
Is any good regarding academics. All kids say academics is a big deal and then...
Give me Weber and watch me not bat an eye.
Hail to Michigan! Go Blue!
Only thing i really do not understand is how both committed, and few months later we dont even make ones top 10 and the others top 5. Something is up here. Anyone have any inside scoop?
Just seems really odd. And honestly, i dont give a crap about losing one because i never thought he was that good and was severely overrated. But ill be honest, the other is going to be a stud.
Urban really got to him....
"Lifelong fan", lets not forget ....what BS.
hopefully he gets in urb's circle of trust at least
Never trust recruits who commit to Al Borges...
I'm not surprised, I also think that showing ANY type of running game will pretty much land us Weber. Harris would've been nice but landing the #1 player in the state should be our #1 priority now.
would be a welcome addition, but Brian Cole says hello
Completely agree. Mike Weber should be a michigan bound.
It stinks losing out on a great recruit but when it comes to RB and DBs I feel like we are stacked with talent. When it come to the Run game we really need to focus on the OL because we are set with RB now with the addition of TY. With these guys I would settle for a small crack in the line to run through, imagine a legit hole for them to actually run through.
As for wishing him luck on the field. I don't if he goes to OSU. Let be real about this, we can't wish every recruit we don't get success on the field. In life yes on the field no. (Also no injuries)
Simple: Funk stunk.
You are the absolute worst.
We're fine at RB for the time being, especially with the addition of Isaac. Let's focus on fixing the damn O-Line and being able to open some holes for our backs first. If our O-Line plays up to its potential, we could have 2 star nobodies running through gaping holes for 6-8 yard gains every time.
russale2012, I agree 100%. The o-line will be a catalyst for 2014. Call it chemistry, talent, too much youth,whatever.. If the line does not produce then it will be a long year. We could have mike hart, Wheatley, and Timmy b and a run game would still be struggling if we cannot put a helmet on a helmet.
The 2013 season really hurt us. If we won 10 games like I believe we should have, I still believe 3 of the Hand, McDowell, Campbell, and Harris would be blue.
Not a surprise. I don't think it's a big deal, though if we miss on both Harris and Weber, that would not be good. I'm trying not to get too up or down with recruiting, especially with signing day nowhere in sight. Makes you crazy for nothing. We'll get guys and we'll either win games or we won't. I'll save my anxiety for Saturdays (we'll see how well I can adhere to this).
Best of luck. Ty Isaac on board helps weaken the blow.
Isaac may be a better back for our offense going forward (power runner). For that matter, Weber strikes me as a harder runner than Harris, who tends to outrun his slowish Kentucky competition. Harris has talent, but there is a lot of variance in reasonable estimates of how he will do in college. He is not a can't miss, ultra-elite athlete like Peppers and Fournette were in last year's class.
As long as he doesn't go to ohio I don't care. The kid is your typical teenager, seeking attention at all costs. I mean he put TAMU in his top 5 just minutes after they offered him, yet Michigan is out of the running even though he supposedly grew up a fan. Best of luck to the kid. Hopefully he finds where he truly wants to go.
I admit that Harris would have been nice to have, but it is not like the cupboard is bare and it seems we have a good looking shopping list of guys to put on the shelves...see Mike Weber and Kareem Walker et al.
I hope he makes the best decision for himself because he has to live with it for the rest of his life. My gut says that he will regret the decision but may never admit it. The trajectory of this team is still exciting, despite last years record. We will haunt his dreams, most notably Darrin Kirkland Jr.
Good luck Damien Harris
The biggest surprise to me is that Urbz didn't convince him to still list Michigan as a contender.
And for a long time know. Better to get this out the way early and move on. No hurt feelings this way. RB prospects are in great standing with what we already have and who we're high on in the future. Good luck to him but also good riddance.
a recruit that commits to a OC. Also, if he goes to O$$$U, ... say no more. He did us a favor.
I TRULY want players at Michigan who WANT to be here and won't let neg recruiting, etc. get in the way. Good luck Mr. Harris, but also, don't let the door hit you on the ass.
We are STACKED at RB, IMO, and will find another young stud anyway. We need OL improvement much more than top RB recruits anyway.
