D Las Vegas owner wagers $12,500 on Michigan for Nat'l Title; $1,000,000 payout

Submitted by ypsituckyboy on

Stealing this from Scott Bell's Twitter account but thought it would be interesting to know if anyone on the board put any money on the Maize and Blue to win the title. If so, how much?

Also, would love to here other big sports-related wagers MGoBloggers made that have paid off big.

He did this last year or the year before with Michigan State, if I remember correctly. The funny thing is, again IIRC, he needs a bigger casino to take the bet and cannot bet at his own, so he either screws over a competitor, or gives $12.5 K to a competitor...

He can bet at his casino. The book ,wiliam hill ,is an independent satellite book. I work next door at another william hill n next to us is the golden nuggett, which has its own sportsbook. He has a 'lucky' writer named Andy at the nuggett and they had fertitta approve the bet only because the main line setter, aaron, believes Michigan has a snowball's chance in hell.

A bit of an amusing personal story here - my first experience with an allowance of any kind coincided with my parents choosing to spend a night out with friends at Northville Downs. My allowance was all of $5, which bought you a bit more in the mid-1980s, but my dad handed me the bill and then got out the racing form and asked me if I wanted to bet my allowance on a horse.

Not being terribly familiar with odds in 5th grade, I chose a strategy of going for the first number that struck me - a horse with 50-1 odds. I pointed to that line and my dad chuckled but accepted and off they went.

At about 10:30 PM that night, my dad comes back with an envelope containing $250, so my first experience with getting an allowance - via a bet - was $250.

I did actually put a wager on Michigan long before the start of the Tournament - hoping to be similarly lucky on $20 to win about $2000, similar to one mentioned above.

My favorite Vegas story (perhaps an urban legend)..... A couple groups of guys watching the Game in the sports book at the Casino. As the game gets underway, one of the guys is incredibly intense and shouting after every play ....screaming at the refs every call and generally going crazy. After the end of the first quarter, a guy from the second group who'd been sitting and watching the game rather quietly turns to the guy going crazy and asks, "Hey pal, you got money on this game or what?!" "Hell yeah I do!! I've got $200 on it!!" said emphatically. "So if I gave you $300 would you sit down and shut the fuck up?!" It's all relative.

I like where his head is at, but I think he's going to be waving bye-bye to that 12,500.

Put $20 on it at 110-1 just before the Big Ten Semis.  Thinking about going back to Vegas just to cash it if (sorry, WHEN) it comes in.

Put $20 (8-1) on them to win the conference tournament and $5 (150-1) on them to win the national championship before the Big Ten tourny. Also put $5 on Florida (28-1) and and West Virgina (25-1).

I don't understand how betting lines work I don't think (have never really gambled).

I went to Vegas Insider, it shows Michigan at 18 / 1 odds to win the national championship.

Based on OP at 80 / 1 odds you just multiply your bet by the fraction?

So based on the current 18 / 1 odds if I bet $100 I have a chance at a $1800 payout (plus original wager) if Michigan won?

I could Google of course but I enjoy hearing the board.

This could be good news. Maybe this guy is in the mafia and his hench men have all of the refs bribed and scared to not screw over Michigan. One can hope! I hope the refs go to bed at night dreading the pain of broken knee caps.

Guys, I want to visit Las Vegas so bad! It's my dream. There are so many interesting places. The Grand Canyon, the Hoover Dam. Of course, numerous casinos. I love gambling and I bet I'd be happy and broke in Vegas. For now, my only option to gamble is with casino apps which I search here https://casinos-rate.com/. Hopefully, the pandemic will end soon and I'll visit Vegas.
