Curt Mallory interviewing for Eastern Illinois HC job
Michigan D-Backs coach Curt Mallory was rumored to be looking for a HC job at a smaller school. Apparently one step closer as he's interviewing for the head coach gig at Eastern Illinois.

Brady Hoke coaching tree!
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:41 PM ^
Technically would be the first branch so to speak

Does a coaching tree count position coaches who make lateral moves to other schools? Maybe Montgomery is a leaf sticking out of the trunk?
Also, does Hoke's former DC (Rocky Long?) who took over at SDSU count?
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:50 PM ^
Well, in the article I was referring to, I think Brian specifically meant a Michigan coaching tree, but I'm not sure. Otherwise, I would say yes. Montgomery would certainly count if he continues to progress, but again I think the article referred to coordinator/HC guys.
I don't even know if Mallory would count since Eastern Illinois is FCS, but it's close at least.

I am sure he wants that HC job

YES!!! Are there any other schools that might want some of our shit coaches?

Stay classy my friend.

You do realize he's the secondary coach and the secondary has been drastically better since he arrived, right?
January 2nd, 2014 at 7:58 PM ^
It's the new thing to be a whiny ass emo on the internets. All the cool kids are doing it.
January 3rd, 2014 at 2:34 AM ^
OK sorry to harsh... Are there any more schools that might want some of our mediocre/below average coaches??? BTW, saying we were better than some of the worst secondary play we have ever seen isn't saying much.

Are there any other blogs that might want some of our shit posters?

When does a coaching bush become a coaching tree?
January 2nd, 2014 at 10:34 PM ^
When you don't shave it for a REALLY long time.

Charlie Brown's Christmas Tree, but a tree is a tree.

1) I assume this would have no real bearing on Jabrill Peppers if Curt Mallory left correct (I'm looking at you Magnus).
2) Who to replace Curt if he goes?
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:51 PM ^
John Harbaugh?!...
...Jon Hoke
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:51 PM ^
First of all, obviously John Harbaugh is not going to be our DB coach. But Hoke's brother has been a DB coach at the NFL level so that would be an incredible hire I would think.

I'd be happy with Jon Hoke, too. Just being an ass.
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:56 PM ^
Good. We need more of that around here.

Beautiful day out here today, huh? Like late May in Michigan.

Is this where the "WHOOOOSH" comment goes???

Mallory recruited Peppers, but I don't get the feeling that they're necessarily super close. So no, I don't think it would affect his commitment.
Also...I vote for Ron English as the new defensive backs coach.

Ron English? You Serious, Clark?
January 2nd, 2014 at 7:48 PM ^
Are you serious? Ron English has been our DC and since then an FBS HC. There's no way he'd want to come back and be a DB coach, but if he did I'd take him in a heartbeat. He knows defense and can recruit.
January 2nd, 2014 at 11:11 PM ^
English was also highly rumored to be a key player in the submarining of Rich Rodriguez and purveyor of "Don't go to Michigan" messages to recruits. If this is even remotely true (and it's hard to believe it isn't unless all that talk emanated out of thin air), English should be blackballed for life.
January 3rd, 2014 at 10:24 AM ^
If he helped rid us of RichRod that's a feather in his cap.
January 2nd, 2014 at 10:25 PM ^
He did a good job with Marlin Jackson, Ernest Shazor, Leon Hall, Jeremy LeSueur, etc.
January 2nd, 2014 at 9:19 PM ^
Ron says he hopes to be able to return to coaching. I sure hope that is at Michigan.
January 3rd, 2014 at 11:02 AM ^
Yes his defense's performances against Appalachian State and Oregon are memories to be cherished.
January 2nd, 2014 at 9:25 PM ^
That would be great. English was a coach who could motivate.

Time to come home
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:43 PM ^
if this is the "michigan firing" of a guy. Remember how Jim Hermann and others were shown the door?
January 2nd, 2014 at 6:52 PM ^
I would be very surprised if that is what's happening. A position coach going to a lesser school to be a head coach doesn't sound like any kind of firing to me...just sounds like he wants to be a head coach.

you get hired as a tight ends (Or linebackers) coach in the NFL. . .

It seems unlikely to me, fwiw, that he'd leave the NFL to have the same position with a college team.

It could make sense if he were offered a co-DC position, with the chance to succeed Mattison. If it were just the DB position, yeah, that'd be doubtful.
