Cry All You Want Harbaugh Haters But Warde Ain’t Firing Him

Submitted by Bluenin on January 2nd, 2020 at 12:20 AM

As long as Harbaugh wins 9 to 10 games a season, he’ll be here for as long as he wishes.  Might as well go out and scream outside at the grass being green and you want it to be red, it’ll do just as good!  Sure I’d love Michigan to beat OSU, but whining and bitching isn’t going to change what happens on the field.

There is not a better option out there, so why even bring this up.

Today was another example of just being beaten by a team with superior talent, which is a consistent theme.

The losses to teams at parity or worse are more troubling while the lack of wins at/above expectation are just getting sad.

But we will persevere and hopefully things will get better.

When people say that there's "no one better than Harbaugh" to coach the team, they are almost right. If you count NC playoff appearances, there are only 12 coaches to ever make the CFP. Four of them aren't even coaching anymore. The other eight would NEVER leave their current position for Michigan, not even Dantonio.

In fact, if you want a coach that has been to the CFP and who is currently looking for a job, the only option is Mark Helfrich. So, if those people are willing to switch Harbaugh for Helfrich, at least he would be a cheaper option. Otherwise, Jim is here to stay.

Also, there seems to be a stigma about firing football coaches in the state of Michigan, regardless of the results (see Lions, Detroit). The only way JH is let go is if things completely fall off the rails and the people who are REALLY in charge of the football team, the high-end backers, want him gone.

But, we already know how that story plays out.

Just let the idiots bitch, OP.

No sense in trying to convince the lost ones that they're wrong. It's not like anyone in charge is going to listen to them.

People will settle down in a few weeks. We've whooped every team in our conference at least once if not multiple times except one.

Bowl record stinks but ICYMI, Bo didn't have a great bowl record either. And according to many on here, bowl games are meaningless exhibitions.

They want us to fire Harbaugh so we can go back into the abyss and become a Tennessee/Nebraska coaching carousel. Let's make staff changes and keep working at beating that one team.

I very much remember what 2008-2014 was like. I remember watching a Michigan team run on the field in celebration at beating Illinois to become bowl eligible. I don't ever want to experience that time again.

Outrage is *very* popular now. It's an addiction that, for some people, is very hard to break. There's no talking with some people, no civil discourse, no reasoning things through - just an outrage about some things that people can't control. I can't see a top 25 academic university like Michigan ever competing consistently/successfully with the semi-pro teams like OSU, Clemson, or Bama unless/until we level the playing field by lowering our academic standards and permitting our alums to subsidize incoming players. Just not going to happen. No coaching change can or will ever change that reality. And Schlissel, like Mary Sue won't get involved here and Warde recognizes the issue(s) and will not change course unless/until there is an egregious scandal that necessitates a change.

This misses the point though. Harbaugh is a program builder. He’s not the guy to put you over the top. If they were to move on from him, it’s only because they’d be looking for an upgrade on the recruiting trail, with an eye towards giving themselves a better chance in The Game.

However, this being Michigan, I would never expect the Board of Regents to be so cold blooded. Our only hope is that Jim resigns of his own volition to return to the NFL.

"Keep working at beating that one team" Oh you mean the one that we are getting farther away from beating? The one that has scored 118 points against us the in the last two games?

I agree. And living here in Ohio is no bed of Rose's. But as I tell these fine folks here, I'd rather have an ethical coach and lose a few games than have a lying cheat as Ohio coaches are known. Of course the laugh at me and drink themselves silly.

Thanks WD.  The fact is that Shea was never as advertised.  He was a 5 star in HS and a 3 star in college.  He excelled in chaos football, but couldn't run the RPO.  He had 1 type of pass ... essentially "line drive style" and couldn't throw a "touch" pass ... or the dreaded "arm punt".  The "arm punt" works and it's an absolute requirement to complete the deep ball.  We had a great core of wideouts, but Shea's style led him to target Bell more often than any of our "NFL type" receivers.  Don't get me wrong, Bell is a very talented receiver, but wasn't the long ball threat ... that was Nico, DPJ and Tarik.

2020 will be a time for patience ... we'll probably go 9-3 again, and these exact same people will again have the torches and pitchforks out in full force.  Tennessee / Nebraska (and add USC to that list) are light years away from being relevant again compared to Michigan.  ohio has now gone "full SEC" in the level that they cheat and neither the NCAA or the B1G are going to do jack about it.  This is the most significant obstacle Michigan has to overcome in moving to that next level.

Harbaugh will get to stay as long as he wants. I’m a bit disappointed in results in year 5. I was hoping he would at least beat OSU and maybe make the playoffs. I don’t think beating OSU is as important to our current AD, like it was back when DC was AD. I’m a bit disappointed in recruiting and the lack of depth at some position. I thought Harbaugh would’ve done a much better job since now all these recruits are his, no longer anyone  else to blame. Who knows may be by year 7,8,9 or 10 things will start clicking and we will be the next Clemson.

Once the rules about compensating players goes in to effect , the recruiting field will be much better for Michigan .I expect Harbaugh to get 5 star players , and I see he already has the top QB coming in a year from now, At that time we should kick OSU in the ass and PAY the damm players for it.

This won’t help as much as you think....e options for kids is: go to OSU (or other like it) and get paid legitimately, get paid again under the table and take all classes “online” OR go to Michigan where you can get paid once and then still have to take classes.

We can improve our recruiting but it won’t be massive.

Warde doesn’t need to fire Harbaugh. He needs to fire the entire pool of assistants save Gattis and Patridge. Start over with new assistants who will bring some urgency to the program.

No, do the assistant coaches at LSU, Clemson, 'Bama, OH State make a difference? It's having stud players and have superior and elite QB play. So, recruiting has something to do with it. Michigan needs to be in the Top 5 ranked recruiting rankings vs the Top 10 as they are now.

Harbaugh needs to get one of those elite QB and have a potent offense like those schools mentioned above and still have a better than average defense.

Offense wins championships in today's game. Michigan's is not up to today's standards. The pieces are coming together. The question is, how good will our QB play in 2020?
