Congrats Sparty

Hate 'em or Hate 'em.
That's one hell of a defense.
Thanks for bringing a little cred back to the BiG

Sparty was the better team but those slow developing running plays and the poor clock management? Wow. I thought Stanford had smart people.

An OT winter classic loss and  Brent saying,"Hail to the Spartans!". Sports God hates me...

On here. They just won the f'n Rose Bowl after already beating the number 2 team in the country to get there.

So anyone pulling the sour grapes/hater routine needs to put on their big boy pants and be a man about it and give congrats where it is due.

Congrats Sparty on the tremendous 2013 season and I sure hope UM is ready to take you down next fall!

I'm sure everyone will be saying "Congrats Ohio" if they win in two days. I was impressed with the Sparty love on here today. It was probably more pro-sparty than RCMB was today.

I can congratulate Sparty but I will never, ever congratulate Ohio or ND. My stomach turns at the thought, having said that and as much as this season killed me.... Hoke is the right guy for the job, he recruits very well and has proven that he is willing to make changes in his staff when necessary. Give him a full chance to make it happen. The Michigan program has been run in to the ground and just like a company or organization that has been run in to the ground, it is going to take twice as long to right the ship as it did to sink it. As much as I blame RR for our current situation. How can you completely? RR didn't have the full support of the entire organization, people in important positions put their personal feelings in front of the success of the program. The team, the team, the team? The same people who quote that don't live up to it and it bothers me still and that includes Lloyd Carr. I am more embarrassed about the actions of the University then than I am now. We are on the right track and doing it the right way. 2 more seasons is what we need to see where we are headed, any less than that is a disservice to the program and all it's fans. Maybe all the right pieces aren't in place but anyone here who thinks they know more about football than Hoke or Mattison is delusional. Ok, even I can't put Borges in that sentence. As much as I can't stand this season, it is the only way to get out of this hole. To be completely honest, we don't have any other options at the moment. Go Blue!

It's because their coaches are smarter than ours. They aren't happy with their OC so they bring in another one. Today, they knew they couldn't run on Stanford, so they throw it, and it worked out well. Stanford kept calling plays like Al Borges.

Great reference, and timing--I just made a post below analogizing the role reversal between us and MSU to that of Vader and Obi-Wan.

There is GREAT fear in me--not only because of what's been the last couple of years, but because of what lies ahead down the dark path...

Thank God I don't live in Michigan anymore. Good job for them, they aren't going anywhere and we need to see serious improvement and player development to start winning this rivalry again

...get a win against a tough non-conference team in an important game...but couldn't this praise simply go in the Rose Bowl thread? Sometimes I think people just start threads because of the chaos that it will ensue...either that or they have secret Sparty crush. :)

Michigan loses to K State in the who gives a shit bowl, MSU beats Stanford in the Rose Bowl. Its depressing to see how bad Michigan is compared to State. I never thought I'd feel that way but its painfully obvious that MSU has the better team and coaching staff.

I think a large part of the problem is the fact that Michigan and it's fans showed up to the "who gives a shit bowl" and played like it was the who gives a shit bowl.  Except the who gives a shit bowl was nationally televised and the whole country got to see Michigan not give a shit in prime time.  I wonder if MSU gave a shit about the who gives a shit bowl?  Yep, looks like they kinda did, and thats why they are where they are and we are where we are.

Let this be a lesson: when "Michigan men" run around telling HS coaches not to send their players to Michigan, Sparty gets a recruiting class that ends up winning a Rose Bowl for them.

No matter who the head coach is or what scheme he runs, may nobody who played or coached at Michigan ever think their own petty personal agenda is bigger than THE TEAM, THE TEAM, THE TEAM.

Here's how it looks to the local folks down here:

Michigan State has Southwest Ohio flavor

I found the local comments a lot more interesting than all the needless quotes from the Detroit News. We didn't get these kids because we made it clear we weren't interested. Re Marcus Rush's recruitment in 2010:

[Moeller HS Coach] Rodenberg: ‘‘They knew that Marcus was visiting (the University of) Michigan, and they said, ‘Fine, but just do us a favor and stop by here on your way home.’ Well, Michigan was rather nonchalant about his visit. When he got to East Lansing, they laid out the red carpet and he (committed) on the spot.’’

Congrats.  A Rose Bowl win is good for the B1G, and what's good for the B1G is good for Michigan.  And I always root for what's best for Michigan.

There is some kind of irony here. While Lloyd declined, RR flamed out, Brandon preps for Levins senate seat, and Hoke fiddles, Hollis and Dantonio have quietly assembled exactly the kind of team Michigan has failed to.

It's not the fact that I saw Michigan State win the Rose Bowl that really disappointed me, but it was and continues to be the fact that we are so far away from being able to compete with the nation's best and even the conference's best.

I still predict a 10 win season next year, why not be hopeful?

but you can respect em too. They have a heck of a program built up now. Its bigger than individual players now. No Max Bullough? Best player on your #1 defense? No worries, win Rose Bowl anyway. Congrats to them. I hate you and I hope we beat you every year forever but congrats, you earned it Sparty

Why must there are always be these types if threads. Never good to see your rivals win. At least it helps the B1G a bit, but let's face it no one will ever respect the B1G anyways unless we achieve something remotely close to SEC level success.

Their defense was stellar....happy for the B1G, but not happy for us.  Sparty will be a force fror in-state players.

Amazing what good coaching can do.

Well when you consider that the recent season ticket holder survery had entire sections devoted to: piped in music selections, concessions stand food and seat cushions but not even ONE question regarding the product on the field I feel safe in saying Dave Brandon will not do one fucking thing.

Can't argue with results. Hats off to Sparty. The moment that really made me think about Hoke/Michigan was after the pick six. I'm 99.9% sure that Hoke would have ran the ball and took it into halftime after that pick six. Dantonio took a risk and let his QB battle back for a TD before the half. It reminded me of the OSU game when Hoke took his foot off the gas near the end of the half when he had nothing to lose. Good call by Dantonio, and it eventually was the difference in the game.

That was an unbelivably bad final series of plays called by Stanford.  Shaw's a good coach but nice to see them knocked down a couple of pegs.  Talk about getting stoned at the LOS.  I wonder of the Stanford blog is freaking out over their OC, or whoever was responsible for those gems.
