Jim Harbaugh remains ungracious

You have to give Jim Harbaugh credit for how he had his team ready to play and ready for the moment. But just once, you'd love to also compliment how the Michigan coach handles ... well, anything.

When he loses, he complains about the officiating. When he wins, he does so with too much arrogance. That goes back to his days at Stanford (Google "Harbaugh What's Your Deal")

On Saturday, after he lifted his record to 1-5 against Ohio State, he chose to throw a dart at Day, basically saying the Ohio State coach has no right to take any credit for any Buckeye success in the series.

Asked after the game about trash talking from Ohio State in recent years, Harbaugh said, "Some people were born on third and think they hit a triple."

Just once, you'd like to see humility.

Humility, humility, I show you some humility. How about, "The next time we play them we are going to hang an 100 on them", or how about, "The reason we didn't play well is we had the flu." How is that for humility, you jackass?

Ungracious? Really? Some third rate Ohio hack is butt hurt that Jim Harbaugh is ungracious???

Hey pal, maybe you oughta look around your own fouled nest. Got some pretty ungracious shit going on...like, you know, covering up for a wife beating assistant because he is the grandson of some former Ohio coach. Hell man, how about ol' sweater vest, a religious man (said he), bald face bearing false witness about players getting paid?

But we all know such behavior from coaches in Columbus is nothing new. Why old Saint Woody punched out an opposing player. Mighty ungracious of him.

Now, if Mr. Third rate journalist wants a real example of grace, how about a football coach turning down seven figures of earned bonuses and asking that the money be given to much lesser paid folks in the athletic department?

That is the Michigan difference.

Never seen such a pussy fan base.

They dominate a rivalry for 2 decades, get gifted a huge game by the officials in 2016 (a pivotal moment for the trajectory of both programs), talk shit for all their success- and we accept it as they were winning on the field…but once their semi-pro team gets smoked by the coach they’ve been mocking this entire time, they cry foul about his comments?

They are soft as shit, that program and coach are soft, and what we saw this year was a team quit when they were getting pounded.

All the excuses and crying…love it.  Keep building up that Big 12 style program and soft ass teams.  Harbaugh simply exposed Day and that program as front runners…nothing controversial there.

After winning for so many years in a row, they thought it was a foregone conclusion. They think all they have to do is run out of the tunnel, dance in the end zone and walk off with a W. Their fan base with the O-H-I-O chant and singing around the stadium makes me so mad

Is it too much to ask to get the quote correct?  Not that it matters a whole lot, but it's just bad journalism.  Harbaugh's quote was, "Sometimes people that are standing on third base think they hit a triple, but they didn't.”  As I was Googling it, it's amazing the amount of different versions that are out there.

Fuck those soft fuckers.  All the sudden they need compassion?  Yeah we heard your dick hole fan base rub it in for the past decade.  Now you are butthurt?  Cry me a river.

Is that a letter to the editor written by a mouthbreathing OSU fan, or is that what passes for professional journalism in Columbus?

If "Brian White" is a staff writer for a paid newspaper, I am laughing so hard I pass Buckeye nuts through my nose.  The writing would be considered juvenile in a high school newspaper.

And as for the "What's your deal?" quote, I must assume the writer is too young to remember 2009, because its a good story.  Carroll's USC teams spent years rolling up scores to help their national ranking, and he was stunned when Harbaugh's Stanford team did it to him.  "What's your deal?" he reportedly whined to Harbaugh, who replied, "I dont know.  What's your deal?".

Look, Tressel was an outright cheater.  There is no question in my mind that OSU under him was as much of a rogue program as anyone in the SEC.

Meyer we know is a scumbag.  Did he cheat too?  Dunno but I certainly wouldn’t put it past him.

OSU has been winning with low character coaches who bend/break the rules on a whim. So they can STFU about any perceived “problems” with Harbaugh.

Tressel knew about player payments in one form of another both at Youngstown State and Ohio State. No question that, if that's your criterion (it's a good criterion), then Ohio State was a rogue school.

So is every other top-20 program, including Michigan. Example: There were recruiting writers who said Donovan Peoples-Jones wasn't just Ohio State's top receiver target, he was #1 on their overall board that year. So when he chose Michigan, do you think he turned down hundreds of thousands of Columbus booster bux to play in Ann Arbor for free? Considering how much Seth and other Michigan writers snark about OSU buying its talent advantage, it's curious they never asked DPJ on the record, "hey, how much did they offer you?" But it's not curious. They don't ask because it would open a can of worms they want to leave out of sight.

/rant. Congratulations on the win. It's especially impressive you physically beat Ohio State and didn't just out-scheme them. Also don't begrudge you the post-game trash talk. Enjoy it while you can. Obviously I hope "the goddamn plane crashes into the mountain," but I expect Michigan will beat Georgia.

Don’t forget Rashan Gary turning down hundreds of thousands from Clemson and Jabrill Peppers being at the top of every school’s list. All schools are illegally using boosters. All coaches know about it. Every. Single. One of em. Just look at what Jimbo Fisher said on Finebaum’s show a week or two ago. They’ve been using NIL forever. It was just illegal back then.

The "all schools do it" rationalization is such bullshit. You recognize your school is dirty, so you have to externalize the shame somehow.

OSU was a dirty program under Tressel. It is likely to have been under Meyer as well, if you extrapolate his horrible ethical standards into the realm of cheating.

without evidence

The evidence is the dog that didn't bark. No one wants to ask him the obvious question. If he turned down Ohio State booster cash and played as an amateur, it would be great from Michigan's perspective to get that on the record. If you have an innocent explanation for the apparent incuriosity about this, please share.

I've seen commenters on mgblog suggest you should rehire Greg Mattison to get the inside scoop on OSU's dirty money. But that's unnecessary. Just talk to 4- and 5-star recruits pursued by Ohio State that wound up at Michigan.

His dad is a Michigan Alumn and a successful doctor.  At DPJ's announcement, it was clear the dad didn't even know the kid was choosing Michigan until he made the choice.  You know many families like his where a kid collect possibly a couple hundred k in bag money and not have the parents know?  It was a bad example.

"Michigan Alum Doctor's Son Rejects Cooler Pooper Lucre To Play By Rules As Wolverine" would be a great story. If I were a Michigan writer, I'd want my byline on that article. Why doesn't anyone, like someone at mgoblog, want to write it?

Mgoblog had a Big Lebowski fixation a few years back. If you don't find the reference funny, I don't care.

Perhaps DPJ could turn down the "booster bux" because he did not come from an economically disadvantaged background?

You're missing the point. Assume for the sake of the argument that he and others turned down OSU money and Michigan never offered them any. If that's true, wouldn't you want that publicized to confirm OSU is dirty and Michigan is clean?

Obviously the lack of proof is the proof itself! Good detective work!

I love when people try to put OSU’s morally bankrupt program on the same ground as Michigan’s because they don’t want to confront the reality that their school and football team are pieces of shit that no one outside of Columbus likes

So obtuse. When Tressel coached Youngstown State, there were credible reports that boosters paid his star tailback, which precipitated an investigation. It eventually turned out that, yes he was getting money under the table from someone outside the program, but I don't think it was confirmed at the time. At some point after he graduated, the player admitted the allegations were true. He also confirmed that Tressel never asked him about it.

Some might say Tressel's incuriosity meant nothing, but that's idiotic. He obviously didn't ask either because he already knew, or because he suspected and didn't want to be put in the awkward position of confirming his best player was ineligible. Either way, it's suspicious that he never asked the kid, "hey is there any truth to this?"

Your current coach is only the coach because your last two coaches had to resign for being pieces of shit. That is an OSU problem, not a Michigan problem. Until you actually have something other than “he probably took money because he is good and OSU doesn’t lose good recruits to Michigan and no one has asked him if he took money,” then we will continue having our worst scandal be that we stretched for too many additional hours and you can continue supporting a program that is a morally bankrupt, win at all cost piece of shit team that has to sit on a loss to Michigan, who went to the college playoffs, until at the very least next November.

I don't think any/many on here were pushing the OSU pays recruit mantra.  OSU breaks the rules, OSU players get illegal benefits, OSU players get a sham education with the all-online courses -- yes for all of those.

I personally do not think OSU regularly pays recruits to come to play at the horseshoe right now.  Most recruits want to play for a championship and Ohio State is one of the few places that is (was?)  a near-lock for that to happen.   There are exceptions....I am trying to think of a Pryor example...
