Pretty sure we beat everyone below 8, except Utah with good Travis Wilson, depending where it was played. And obviously we'd beat #5, dammit. :(

i think if we played utah right now, we would win

And I guess Iowa is happy with their QB situation.
October 25th, 2015 at 12:42 PM ^
Has Iowa played anyone? This division of teams in the B1G is pathetic. Iowa doesn't play the top three teams in teh B1G. Move MSU to that division to even this up...

Yeah, but that was a super-weird game if memory serves me right - 57 yarder by Iowa to win the game. But yeah, Iowa has basically played Pitt and Wisconsin and that's it. Though them beating up NW last week was more impressive given that NW bounced back on the road at Nebraska.
October 26th, 2015 at 1:12 AM ^
Utah and MSU. What's your point? Michigan beat up on shitty teams like UNLV, Oregon State, etc.
Iowa beat what they have to play in their schedule and they're undefeated.

A decent team with a pulse can win the West. I'd rather not give them an easier path to Indy.
Plus winning in Wisconsin is still impressive.

You're in the minority on this board if you think moving MSU will even things up going forward. It seems to be the consensus here that they are on their way back to irrelevance once Cook is gone.

Their present ranking in non-binding polls has nothing to do with the 4 versus 8 argument.

8 is the perfect number. It allows 5 slots for the P5 conference champs, 2 deserving at-larges, and a slot for the best non-P5 team for political correctness reasons.
It keeps the regular season highly meaningful - the essence of CFB - while creating a compelling and easily workable Playoff scenario.
There would be plenty of drama each year around the two at-large slots. So even the people who love to argue - some for a living - would have something to like in an 8 team playoff.
October 25th, 2015 at 1:15 PM ^
Yeah the traditional New Years Bowls should be round 1 - you win your conference championship or you are not in - polls mean nothing.
Rose Big Ten vs Pac10
Orange ACC vs SEC
Cotton Big 12 vs Mountian West
Sugar USA vs MAC
screw the AAC Sun Belt and Independents
force BYU and ND to join a conference

This happened in the Pac 12 a few years ago. I suppose you could have a "safety valve" that says you have to have no more than [2] losses as a conference champ to be in.
But personally, I say Fuck it, if you win your conference you should be in. Even if your record is not that good, you beat someone who's record is. You are playing good football at that point. And you still have the two at larges to pick up teams that did not win their conference but have a better record than you.

No, the first round should be the first or second weekend of December, played on campus. Dump the pointless conference title games (does anyone really want to see the Big Ten title decided at Lucas Oil Stadium?) and use that weekend for playoffs.
The semifinals should be held on New Year's, at traditional bowl sites.
The final should be a week later.

Only 2 teams would play 15 games, and it won't be the same 2 teams every year. Only 4 will play 14 games, etc. etc.
It's very manageable.
Ohio State played 15 games last year and the institution did not crumble. In fact, they seem to want to do it again.

Whoo Hoo!! We're the top 2-loss team, ahead of a bunch of 1-loss and even undefeated teams.
This is actually a sign of progress. When we were good back in the day, we were always the top 1-loss team or the top 2-loss team . . . because our losses were always very close and only ever to other top teams. Everyone else, we blew out.
We are starting to look like that again.
October 25th, 2015 at 12:54 PM ^
Let's just be one of the undefeated teams from now on. What do you say?
October 25th, 2015 at 1:05 PM ^
We'll get there . . . we gotta walk with Jake Rudock before we run with Andrew Luck 2.0.

once in a generation QB. Not that easy to find the next Andrew Luck.

Fortunately, we don't even need that. Just your typical Michigan QB from the '90s and early '00s.

Stidham is pretty good as a backup; he is a sleeper on my fantasy team, and there was talk that he'd have been the starter coming out of camp had Russell not been in the system for a couple of years. They probably aren't going undefeated either way, but they are going to lose because that defense has been beset by injuries, not because they have to hand the keys to that offense over.
