Coach Harbaugh turning UM back into an NFL football factory

Submitted by Ahriman on

Nice article by Nick Baumgardner over at Mlive about how Coach Harbaugh is bringing his NFL experience to Michigan and helping prepare players for future NFL Careers.

De'Veon Smith said:"Honestly, I don't think any (player from any) other school out here has it easier than us right now," he said. "Because we've been through it all."

And if that wasn't enough, the Ross School of Business is currently hosting the NFL's Business Academy, in which 34 active and retired NFL players are participating (Julius Peppers, Alfred Morris and Cliff Avril among others). Not only is Coach preparing players physically and mentally for NFL careers, he's ensuring that Michigan gets attention even during the offseason (although it seems like he doesn't have an "offseason") and is cementing an interesting relationship between the NFL and Michigan. The man is a genius. Go Blue.

303john really? I mean even though the scoreboard said the bucks won, can you really call it a win for them? I'm pretty much going from this day forward that Michigan won that game and Urban has been beat.

We go trucked two years ago and lost when we had the game won. I must have missed something. I am tired of losing to OSU. He wins the next two in a row and then we can talk about drafts.

think like that when UM was doing this to them in the 90's? Or did they go out and get a coach that was as good or better than ours? We went out and got a coach that can compete with theirs. It's coming. And that right soon.

Ryan Broyles was a third round draft pick after a bad leg injury and lived on like $60,000 per year while he played a decently long career, through more injuries. Now he's thinking ahead again with stuff like this. He might be the poster boy for fiscal responsibility. After being on scholarship for college I wonder exactly how much money the game of Football has been worth to him. Hats off to Broyles. Also - good job UofM

Harbaugh's experienced the NFL draft process as a prospect, a college coach and an NFL coach. He's been in the room when those crazy questions get asked and he knows what the desired answers are. He knows what teams want to see, what they don't want to see and how they want to see it as well as any college coach in America.

That's an interesting point - you not only have a coach that is good at developing players when they are in college, but knows the process all the way up to the day of the draft as well - personally too. We say this quite a bit about Jim Harbaugh, but I can't think of a lot of coaches that can say that, and yes, I only see benefits from that.

Interesting read.

hey bud, you can't say you never blame officiating... and then blame officiating!

I was there, you watched it, we've all been over this a million times... we lost because of turnovers and playcalling in the fourth quarter... and because our all everything greatest michigan player ever couldn't make a crucial tackle on a third down...  but you just go on blamining officiating (since you never do that)

I know I sound like a jerk, but I never do that!  (get it? lol)

The Business Academy is square in its sights. A student athlete's free time is for enjoying video games, not learning incredible life skills from knowledgeable mentors! These people shoukd be spending more time with their families!

The first one of these business/"real life" education sessions for college football players that I ever heard of was Urban Meyer's "Real Life Wednesday" that he does with his players.

When I first about it I hated it due to who came up with it, but after rationally looking at it, I'll admit it was a nice, genuine touch from slick old Urban.
