This is a pathetic line of thinking. Even if we were going to get smacked, I'd rather play and put up a fight if possible. I understand that health concerns are the issue here, so it's a good thing the game has been canceled. Being happy to avoid that game is shitty fandom.

Before the outbreak within the team, you had:

Joe Milton (hurt)

Cade McNamara  (hurt)

Jalen Mayfield (hurt)

Ryan Hayes (hurt)

Giles Jackson (hurt)

Cam McGrone (hurt)

Aiden Hutchinson (hurt)

Brad Hawkins (hurt)

Andrew Vastardas (hurt)

These are players that didn't play the previous week. Not knowing what other injuries we have sustained. This is before Covid has taken more players out of the equation. What reason in the world would playing this game benefit Michigan, OSU, the rivalry or anyone involved? Nothing good comes from playing this game. There is no chance in hell of an upset.

“In the Greek alphabet, X is the symbol for the letter 'chi. ... In the early days of the Christian church, Christians used the letter X as a secret symbol to indicate their membership in the church to others. If you know the Greek meaning of X, Xmas and Christmas essentially mean the same thing: Christ + mas = Christmas.”

I learned this same information from the Sounds of the Seasons channel.  The more you know!

Really hope they don’t cancel.  This game is the standard by which the season is measured.  If it’s a drubbing, so be it.  But at least it is a chance to rescue a season.

The team had limited workouts yesterday. However Angelique was reporting that the number of players practicing were severely limited.

In addition she's reporting that they had 3 new covid cases yesterday. Based on Big Ten Rules, there's no way Michigan would be allowed to play.

That is as official as it gets. This puts makes the B1G in a decision to put OH State in the championship game at Indy or not. Alvarez has stated they can amend their 6 game eligibility rule so we shall see.

As a fan, I am glad this game won't be played. I understand the student-athlete aspect and the right to compete and I respect that.

Better luck next year Michigan fans.

Was Bo an epidemiologist too?

Christ even the vaunted OSU had to cancel a game due to Covid, and were lucky to even get to play against MSU. Day had to quarantine for 10 days after testing positive.

Just a general comment to the board...can we keep criticism of everything Michigan related in the realm or reality? That there's a global pandemic raging with record case numbers right now, and maybe just maybe shit happens and not everything is Harbaugh or Warde's fault?

If this was the Spanish Flu, would the game be canceled?

Well, no, actually, it wasn't. Michigan won 14-0 to finish an unbeaten 5-0 season and claim a national championship.

There are so many parallels between 1918 and 2020, although '18 had the added stress of a World War.

Before the football season began, a rumor spread that football would be abandoned for 1918. The university decided to proceed with the football season, though war-time restrictions limited travel and practice time. To compensate for the players serving in the military, the existing prohibition on freshman players was lifted for the year.

As originally adopted, Michigan's 1918 schedule included games against Cornell (at Ithaca), Northwestern (at Ann Arbor) and Minnesota (at Ann Arbor). Those games, and planned replacement games against Camp Custer and the University of Mount Union, were cancelled. Travel restrictions resulted in cancellation of the Cornell and Minnesota games, and the 1918 flue pandemic forced the cancellation or rescheduling of other games. After Cornell cancelled its game, Syracuse was put on the schedule in its place.

This time around, it's the right call to cancel.

Our medical knowledge in 1918 was pretty limited.  The first flu vaccine didn't even exist until 1937.

Back then there wasn't a whole bunch you could do except be careful and ride it out.  There was no vaccine coming to help you.   Today, if we are just patient and careful, everything should be able to get back to normal by next fall or so.
