Chicago Bears out of the Harbaugh sweepstakes?!

Submitted by Rescue_Dawn on

"Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is also reported to be on Chicago’s short list of potential interviewees. San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, a former Bear, has been mentioned, but his salary demands are likely too rich for ownership’s liking."

Given Harbaugh's history and near-idolization of Ditka (not quite matching Bo, but it's NFL) and his unfinished business there as a player, the Bears should be the biggest challenger for Harbaugh's services other than Michigan.

Fortunately, the owners are notoriously cheap idiots.

after graduating from Michigan. I never stopped being a "Detroit sports" fan, which meant I hated the Chicago teams. Sample size of 1 here - I thought Ditka was pretty cool. Other than he was a (surprise!) hard nosed football coach, I don't know why anyone would think he's bad. Unless, maybe, he beat [incert your favorite team] in a way that was uncool - like running up the score. On and off the field, the 85 Bears appeared to have a lot of fun, which would imply Ditka didn't keep them all on a tight leash. I thought that part of the team chemistry was pretty cool.

IF they were to get Bowles for 1/3-1/2 what we offered JH I wouldn't call them idiots. I'd call that pretty savvy...

Falcons won today, play Carolina for the NFC South title next week. Hard to fire the coach after winning the division, no?! Go Falcons!

Who were those other NFL teams looking at Harbuagh again? Da Raidaz?!  J-E-T-S?!  Zat all that's left? Keep weeding out alternate offers....

I really really don't see the bears making a play for harbaugh. McCaskeys isn't going to clean house, pay Phil Emery and Marc Trestman and the rest of the staff the remainder of their contracts AND pay harbaugh the money he will require.

Emery (GM) is linked with Trestman, so everyone is clamoring for both of them to go down. Add the cost of dumping Cutler (that really might happen) and it really restricts cash availability for a top shelf coach. I hope this ties the hands tightly and keeps them away from Harbaugh. Hackett's "bear hug" offer is a great way to put a wall around Harbaugh that is too high for others to climb, especially the Bears.
