Chicago Bears out of the Harbaugh sweepstakes?!
"Arizona Cardinals defensive coordinator Todd Bowles is also reported to be on Chicago’s short list of potential interviewees. San Francisco 49ers head coach Jim Harbaugh, a former Bear, has been mentioned, but his salary demands are likely too rich for ownership’s liking."

ANYTHING IS POSSIBLE!!!!!!!!!

Given Harbaugh's history and near-idolization of Ditka (not quite matching Bo, but it's NFL) and his unfinished business there as a player, the Bears should be the biggest challenger for Harbaugh's services other than Michigan.
Fortunately, the owners are notoriously cheap idiots.

You mean wonderfully cheap geniuses, right?

That must be it.

idolizes Ditka, really? I am so disappointed, if true.
December 21st, 2014 at 5:36 PM ^
A framed letter from Ditka is one of Harbaugh's most prized possessions. Obviously, he idolizes him as a coach, not as a person, but it is somewhat disappointing.

What makes Ditka so bad?
I don't really know to much about him other than his coaching resume. Oh, and what I learned from Bill Swerski's Superfans.

do you think Bo was some kind of progressive beacon more worthy of emulation?

December 21st, 2014 at 10:17 PM ^
compared to Ditka, yes Bo was progressive. The comparison is unfair to Bo who no one has ever accused of being a hater. Ditka is much closer to Ted Nugent in his beliefs and commentary than Bo.

Bo was an old white Republican. I think you're deluding yourself if you don't believe his personal views skewed closer to Ditka's.
December 22nd, 2014 at 11:24 AM ^
twist themselves up a bit, since admiring a republican for them is not usually possible. Luckily there are others on both sides that know its possible to admire people on the left and right.

Brandstatter tells a story about how Ditka knocked out his brother Art Jr.'s teeth in college during a game. So there's that. Ditka ruined Mrs. Brandstatter's boy's smile.

If Bowles runs the D in AZ while Arians runs the O - the Bears might just get the best of that deal in the long run? Possible, though Arians does seem to have what it takes to be a good top guy. That's always a tough guess when promoting a coordinator
December 21st, 2014 at 6:36 PM ^
Yes, except Arians was in the unique situation of proving himself as an HC while still being a coordinator when Chuck Pagano was out. Which made the decision to pick Trestman over him all the more confounding and stupid.

IF they were to get Bowles for 1/3-1/2 what we offered JH I wouldn't call them idiots. I'd call that pretty savvy...
Falcons won today, play Carolina for the NFC South title next week. Hard to fire the coach after winning the division, no?! Go Falcons!
Who were those other NFL teams looking at Harbuagh again? Da Raidaz?! J-E-T-S?! Zat all that's left? Keep weeding out alternate offers....

I was shocked to learn this, but it's literally true, unless you count George Halas hiring himself to come back multiple times. Every other coach was promoted from within, another team's assistant, or hired straight out of college or from CFL/WFL. Totally insane.
