Charlie Weis Fat jokes aren't funny...

Submitted by The Impaler on
It may just be me, but I don't have grade school sense of humor on this topic. I just don't find these jokes funny. Maybe it's because people have abused the joke in so many different ways or I just don't think fat jokes are funny. I think both.

HAHAHAHAHA OH MAN HE IS SO OBESE ISN'T IT HILARIOUS! I agree. It's just weak and stupid. It was funny for about 10 minute 5 years ago... now it's just overplayed. Like someone making jokes about POOP OMG HAHAHA

You're right, they're not funny, they're HILARIOUS. Seriously though, anyone with that much arrogance about leading young men while preaching smarts and discipline should be able to weigh less than a morbidly obese person. I believe the word I'm looking for is hubris.

When you go jogging, do you leave pot holes? When you make love, do you have to give directions? At the zoo, do elephants throw you peanuts? Do you look at a menu and say "okay"? (I disagree with OP. Charlie Weis fat jokes are still funny.)

I don't think they are funny but I have a little different perspective than most. I used to weigh 297 lbs and I am 6'1". I used to hear them a lot and see the looks and watch the laughs. It sucked. I was told by the doctor that if I didn't do something that I would suffer a heart attack by age 30 so I did. I lost over 100 lbs. Now that I am on the other side of the spectrum I feel sorry for the people who get made fun of because I know how hard it was. I don't get mad when people say jokes because it might be funny to them but you will never hear me say one. There are a lot more funny things to be said than 50 year old fat jokes.

Overindulging in vices done by ordinary people is not funny. Your Grandma getting drunk and using racial slurs, father in law cheating or a heavy sister is not funny. However Mel Gibson, Tiger Woods and Charlie are funny. Rich people have the resources to hire cooks, personal assistants, drivers, trainers, etc. They should not be fat, drive drunk or be nailing Vegas waitresses.

In Charlie's defense (I never thought I'd say that) he did seek help by having gastric bypass performed and losing about 100 lbs. He also almost died from it and sued the docs for malpractice only to be defeated because he couldn't follow their directions. Maybe it's just me, but surgery seems like the last resort, so perhaps he did try dietitians, personal chefs, etc. Some people are just wired to be fat, kinda like some people are genetically predisposed to be alcoholics, and what man wouldn't nail a hot Vegas waitress? Ok, that one I don't understand because he is married to a blond, Swedish supermodel.

I now find images like the following hurtful and distressing. Using a sophomoric literary allusion like 'Great Weis Whale' and combining it with a photoshopped rendition also belittles the terrible impact of international whaling on our planet's cetacean residents. Since this is probably the last time I'll really have occasion to post the image, which I constructed during a less enlightened period of my life, I will go flagellate myself with a bamboo cane. Thank you for enduring my confession with me, and gaze with empathetic sorrow upon this creation.

Everyone here has missed the point. The real humor in it was that the "great Notre Dame's leader," the figurehead of their sports program, was a morbidly obese man. This matters. Athleticism, being in shape, does matter in sports, even for the coaches. Do you think it motivates young college players more to answer to a coach who rides around practice in a little cart because it's hard to walk, or to a coach who runs around with vigor and enthusiasm throughout practice?? It was like ND was playing a big practical joke on itself for the past years, and it was funny to those who do not like ND.
