Changes to Big House locker room

Submitted by Wolverine Devotee on

Greg Dooley from MVictors posted some interesting changes from inside Michigan's locker room at The Big House.

The Legends program looks to be done.

Not only did Desmond Morgan not have the patch on his #48 at the Spring Game, but the wood engravings have been removed from the Legend number lockers. The patch and the players who wore the number used to be there.

A Tom Brady tribute has been added to the locker room-

Also a great moments wall has been added.

I never liked the special stained lockers...that was a bit much. The Brady piece is a nice touch, I think we need to do more to honor legends who aren't, well, passed away.

When DB came out with those, I was shocked that Brady Hoke went along with it.  The Legends crap was such a 'non-team' move.

It showed that Hoke was clearly DB's puppet at that point.  The Hoke era jumped-the-shark at that precise moment.

When they first came out, I thought it was really cool.  When Desmond was getting honored for all of his accomplishments right before the start of UTL, the stadium was rocking, he was standing there with tears running his face, I had chills down my spine... it was special moment, and a unique thing.

I'm not so much a fan of how it eventually went, but it started out as a great idea.

I think you have to separate the honoring Desmond's accomplishments aspect from the awarding individual players special numbers aspect. The former wasn't the issue, the latter was awkward and a crappy DB marketing special.

Which is why I didn't have a problem with it to begin with.  Junior Hemingway already had the #21 jersey; now he gets a patch added to it and a nice ceremony for Desmond.  All well and good.

Once players started switching numbers and it became a huge deal, well, that wasn't so good, which we agree on.  But to say that the moment the Legends program came into existence was the exact moment that the Hoke era "jumped the shark" is fairly shortsighted.

For the first Lacrosse game at the stadium I was in the locker room and the greaat moments wall had Anthony Carter's catch happening in 1989. (It's since been corrected.) Also last spring in Crisler they unveiled a display case showing Wolverines in the NBA and had Hardaway Jr. playing for the "Nicks" (short for the Nicholasbockers?)

Are you insane? Did you see that post on here on the upcoming facilities here in addition to the ones that have already been renovated? ALL of Michigan's facilities blow everyone else's in the B1G away.

The players already have a fancy Schembechler Hall locker room with stuff for their electronics. The fuck do they need them on gameday for?

Wrong on all accounts. The sentiment around here is has long been we need facilities, and are glad Michigan has the very best, and need recruits, and seem to be getting some damn good ones, and we need spring attendance, and are really happy that this one had it.

And lest you forget the movement to remove the guys who thought we'll win because we're MIchigan began here.

That locker room is embarrasing. Who is designing this stuff because it's terrible. 1970s fluorescent lighting? Really! I'm not sure why you are getting down voted because that MSU locker room is 1000 times cooler and that is really unfortunate. They need to update that shit asap. I had no idea this was the case.

You probably haven't been inside Michigan's locker room, one.

Two, what is the point of spending a ton of money on a locker room that will be used 8 days in a calendar year by the Football team?

The place is perfect. There is nothing wrong with it. People are just bitching to bitch.

at Schembechler / Glick looks like? I am guessing the everyday use one is better than the stadium locker room.

I guess I don't fret too much about the locker room. We start winning games again, and we still have a modern renovated version of the locker room Tom Brady, Charles Woodson, Desmond Howard, et al suited up in.

It's not like it is a shit hole with nails in the wall like when Bo first arrived.

The hanging fluorescent lighting ballasts? That looks like the lighting in K-Mart when I was a kid. Hard to believe that has not been corrected with some modern lighting. Not to mention the cheesy painted lettering on the wall. Some serious denial going on here.

Actually that is not the sentiment.  When there was all the Dan Mullen talk all I heard was how Miss State could never compete with our facilities.  Then someone posted a $27M upgrade Miss State had to facilities and then everyone yelled we still have it better (without explaining) etc.  So usually people err on the side of "Michigan has it the best (well outside of Oregon and Bama)" without knowing.  So if anything people are on the other extreme not "facilities don't matter".

I am also one who does care about spring game attendence in terms of recruiting because yes it is not end all be all, or even something in the top 10 - but if dude goes to PSU/OSU game and sees 90-100K then came to ours in recent years and say 30K it looks like we don't give a damn.  And I am sick of the "people have better things to do" rationale.  It is actually way more a pain of an ass to get to Happy Valley then AA for PSU fans and they find time to show support.
