CFB: Week one - games of note - or - that you'll be following

Submitted by Amazinblu on August 28th, 2023 at 11:48 AM

Labor Day and week one of the college football season are upon us.   There are a few games of interest to me.  I'll be in Michigan Stadium on Saturday - so, that will prevent me from seeing any of the other noon kickoffs.

Nebraska @ Minnesota - Thursday evening - first game for Ruhle as Huskers' head coach

Central Michigan @ Michigan State - Friday evening - Go Chips Go!

Florida @ Utah - Friday evening - an SEC school that's playing an OOC game in a different time zone

East Carolina @ Michigan - noon - Go Blue!

Colorado @ TCU - noon - Coach Prime's debut

Ohio State @ Indiana - 3:30 pm - a new starting QB for the Buckeyes

West Virginia @ Penn State - 7:30 pm - how many commercials in an NBC broadcast and Drew Allar

North Carolina @ South Carolina - 7:30 pm - do the Gamecocks keep last year's momentum going?

LSU @ FSU - Sunday evening - the best game on this week's schedule

Clemson @ Duke wraps up week one's action on Monday night.  What does Clemson have?

What game(s) do you care about, will you watch - or follow - anything specifically you'll look for?

Go Blue!

Can't wait to watch M play. Sidenote for OP, Florida at Utah is this Thursday, not Friday.

Go Blue and here's to a National Championship Season 🏆

Miami (NTM) v. Miami (YTM) on Friday at 7 PM. Need to find a bar that carries the ACC Network, so I can play a drinking game over how many times the announcers refer to the wrong Miami.

LSU/FSU is at Camping World Stadium in Orlando. Is that considered a "home" game for FSU or is it a neutral? I can't recall if last year's game at the Superdome was an LSU "home" game or a neutral.

I want Michigan Utah and TCU to all win by 50 this weekend. I hope wvu can keep it respectable against PSU. I want OSU to throw 2 ints and give up at least 1 long td on defense

I’m really interested to see the B1G West teams and how they look week one.  So many questions which will be answered over the coming weeks.

Wisconsin with Fickell and new Air Raid offense.

Will Iowa’s offense finally be decent?

Nebraska and their new coach.  Getting a W versus Minnesota week one would be huge momentum.

Purdue bringing in a defensive minded coach.

Minnesota coming off 9 wins and a bowl win.

no biggie - i was just looking forward to watching it! and when i saw friday i was sadder. last weekend's "opening college weekend" was a joke. USC not even on tv and notre dame playing a lame duck navy team in ireland at 2 pm. that is a bad start to the season. I dont know why there isnt more fanfare for at least some mid-tier games to put them in the limelight.

Shitty mediocre programs like Miami and Texas should be lining up to play on opening night.

I will be in the house Saturday as well. It will be my first game at Michigan Stadium since the 67-65 Illinois OT game in 2010. It will be my 14 year old's first ever trip there after taking him to see Michigan win at Kinnick right up the road from us last year.

Can't wait to take it all in again. GO BLUE!

So $6 for one month of Peacock or $35 for one year?  Is there going to be other stuff on Peacock that justifies a year?  I think some extended golf coverage for some of the majors next spring might justify the year.

I think it's worth it for a year. They will likely broadcast several basketball games this winter in addition to the extra golf coverage you noted. Plus, if you're an Office fan they have extended versions of like every episode with all of the deleted scenes.

Forego going out to lunch once or twice and you'll have that $35.

i will be at one of my son's games.  the travel is a pain, but the time is fleeting so i will lean into it for all the excitement and hard work it manifests.

NE @ MN is on our schedule and on both on the road on consecutive weekends so it will be important to see how they look out of the gate.

OH State @IN, always want to see how the Buckeyes do and on the road. Will this be a big blowout for the Bucks? IN comes to Ann Arbor on Oct 14 so will be keeping an eye on them.

WV @ Penn State is about their new QB and their tow RB. Sounds like a potent offense if they have gotten it together.

It will be glorious to see if CMU can upset Sparty. That will make my days if that were to happen. Go Chips!

For me, the B1G opponents on our schedule comes first. I'll be very curious to see how Cade and Eric All will do in their first IA game.

I am struggling to see how Minnesota is a 7.5pt favorite over Nebraska. Am I missing something? Minnesota lost a bunch of guys. Are the cupboards really that bare at Nebraska?

I'm not sure what happened at Nebraska after Ruhle was hired - portal, transfers, signing class, etc.

Under Scott Frost - it seemed that Nebraska had decent talent - but, couldn't close out games - self inflicted items including turnovers and penalties.

My guess is - there's enough there.   How long will it take to be effective?   We'll find out soon.

A little vignette from a classic move - The Hustler... "You left enough."

My crystall ball shows me watching football 5 days in a row.

Especially now that my MLB team eliminated themselves from the playoffs.  Unless they find a way to go 29-2 or better.

Oh and if I find this fuckin Peacock I'm gonna kill it and cook it.  Feathers will make a nice wall piece.

I'm interested to see what Nebraska looks like with Rhule (I think they'll be better coached but have some personnel limits) and Minnesota getting an early test will give some insights into how tough they'll be.

MSU should beat up on the Fightin' Jim McElwains but if they struggle that'll be...interesting.

Florida beat Utah last year in sort of a stupid game; I suspect Utah will return the favor this year and beat the Gators.  I know it's only year 2 but if UF has another meh year might be time for a change there, or at least a stern talking-to, given the fact that their coach seems to have a nice relationship with the media and is getting some coverage because of it as otherwise a mediocre record after 2 years at Florida would be unaccpetable.

UM will smoosh ECU but obviously should be fun.

TCU is going to take a step back this year but CU is tiny on the lines and that's going to doom them against basically anyone with some talent.  Could get ugly quickly.

OSU will beat up on IU and my guess is whomever starts at QB will be fine, but watch out if McCord or Brown throw a couple lazy balls.

PSU is going to house WVU, a team that wanted to fire Neal Brown last year but didn't due to, in big part, financial concerns about his buyout.

UNC with a new OC (though running the same stuff) and a rickety defense vs. a South Carolina team that basically played out of their minds for 2 weeks and return a talented-but-erratic QB?  Going to get pointsy.

LSU-FSU is a vintage "every outcome says something good about the teams involved even if they aren't good".  Whomever wins gets to claim early momentum for the playoffs, the loser has a "good loss", and we'll all check back a few weeks later.

Duke got some luck last year and probably aren't 10-win material; Clemson has to see if they have a stud at QB.  My guess is it'll be an ugly-ish game Clemson winds somewhat comfortably.

Go for two

August 28th, 2023 at 3:28 PM ^

Would it be better 1) for OSU to look completely average the entire season and we are finally favored in The Game

OR

2) Have OSU offense look like Death Star deadly again, go undefeated and lose in AA again?

I am going with 1 but #2 would be very interesting
