CC: Jan4 WWL coverage on JH and Michigan. UPDATE II

Submitted by GunnersApe on

The last couple of days I've been putting theses ESSPENN bullets about UM/CC/JH/BH, due to the fact that I have a TV in my office and watch sport shows all day while I work (I know tough life). I will update as the day progresses. IMHO (means nothing) I'm in the agent "disinformation" camp and any "JH is leaning" talk is a money grab.

0722est Mike & Mike

Dick Vitale bullets

-Doesn't think JH fits in the Pros & is a college guy.

-If Bo was alive he would be at UM on the sidelines.

-If I talked to him I would tell him to stay in college.

-T. Izzo made the right choice to stay in college.

-I didn't listen to Jimmy V and failed in pros.

-RR should go to Pitt.

It Dicky V so he's just talking but he inline w/ Lou Holtz (yesterday) on the matter.

0735est SportsCenter

John Clayton bullets on NFL CC

-If SF cannot get JH the will go the Assistant route.

-Denver will wait till J. Elway get back to start a search(n/m of JH).

0905est Mike & Mike

M. Greenberg on breaking to him bullets

-Just broke to him about the Freep article on JH not coming to AA and would stay at Stanford or go pro(wow he's late to the party)

-gave his opinion and said Stanford=Michigan but M got more history(talkers gotta talk)

0912est SportsCenter

Chris Mortensen bullets

-Freep report/ that is not the absolute but that is the buzz from last night/this morning.

-talks about sibling rivalry with brother and NFL.

0917est Mike & Mike

John Clayton bullets

-thought Miami was in the mix but it dying b/c Sparano is staying.

-Two options S.F. but they don't have the structure he looking for and Denver b/c John Elway

-Is Hearing 3mil at Stanford 4mil at UM.

Freep is been brought up since 0900est ,more will come later I'm sure and I'll update once Schefter wakes up. I do not have access to NFL network so any help is appreciated.

UPDATE I

0947 Mike & Mike

Adam Schefter Tweet

-(MWW6t7 beat M&M him by 4min) Hugh Jackson to interview at S.F.

Todd McShay

-think Luck and JH are moving on.

UPDATE II

1002est 1st & 10

Amani Toomer

-JH not ready for NFL

-JH can't skirt the press like he did last night.

-It's one thing to coach college kids vs. Pros.

-Wanted JH to AA (Buckeye lover Jay Crawford was loving this)

Skip Bayless

-jumped up on the table and started throwing feces at everyone. (I kid, I kid)

-Compare JH to Jimmy Johnson when he was at the "U" and said he will go the same route and recorded as J.J.

No offense to anyone here, but why are we so hung up on Jimmy? While I like his attitude, and his approach to the game, I'd prefer he not come to Michigan unless he plans to stay in it for the long haul. What good will it do us as a fanbase if we go  through another 3 years of restructuring, have 1 awesome season, and then JH leaves for the NFL? I want a coach that wants to stay in college, not one who is just looking for the next best thing.

Again, I don't want to rub anyone the wrong way, I just don't see very many people mentioning this possibility.

Honestly, there are no better options. I hate saying it, but it's true. I'm just wondering why we as a fanbase our hanging all our hopes on JH. Haven't we learned our lesson yet about placing all of our hopes on anything?

In a related note, it seems like I haven't seen anyone mention Chris Peterson. Not only has he proven to be a more than capable coach with underrated talent, but he has shown the willingness to change his offense to suit his players. He isn't strictly Pro Style, he plays to the strength of the team. I'd like to see what he can do with a better talent pool. If he was willing to leave Boise anyways.

If Harbaugh ends up as the new HC of Michigan, do you think he brings along his D coodinator Vic Fangio as well?  After watching the schemes and different blitz packages he sent last night, I would be almost as excited about him coming as Harbaugh.

on Sportscenter @ 9:45am. Take it for what it's worth, which means practically nothing, like 95% of what we're hearing today... anyway, he said he lives near Palo Alto, has been to Stanford practices, etc. He thinks that Harbaugh wants the competitive challenge of the NFL, b/c coaching college for him is "like playing checkers" and he wants to "play chess" against the likes of "Bill Belichick, Andy Reid," etc.

The talkers are right. If you want to be truthful, Stanford = Michigan, but M has more history in football, and Stanford has unbelievably superior weather.

Because what Dick Vitale has to say on this subject is about as meaningful as the sports team of the flagship station of LSU and the New Orleans Saints.

As I have stated previously, JH is the one who has been dictating the timeline here. I have total faith in DB that he has all the bases covered. He has left all his options open by waiting until after the bowl game. I feel much more comfortable with DB at the helm than I did with the Bean Counter.

We should not be totally distraught if JH stays at Stanford for one more year. We still have a chance to get him after next season as long as we don't fire RR. We know for sure that if RR is retained there will be major changes on the D staff. This will show that the evaluation process was not totally fruitless.

Why does JH stay one more year at Stanford? Timing. Why disrupt the family right now with a newborn, Luck comes back he has a shot a National Championship, potential NFL lockout next year means he sits and has wasted a year not coaching if he choose that route, and maybe Jim has just a bit of resentment for some at Michigan and will not jump at the first chance to come back. Bottomline his value will not be any less next year and he will have an immediate chance to even enhance it with a National Championship.

Just speculation from and old UM Man.

I hope harbaugh comes - I really do.  He is the only person I view as a viable replacement who the fan base won't lose their lunch over.  But the most damning thing about Rich Rod is his loyalty to poor assistants, and his inability to actually keep his hands off the defense.

Give Harbaugh credit - he suppressed his ego and gave Fangio the defensive job.  The benefits of that are obvious.   Makes you wonder what might have been if Lloyd had hired Jim as a QB coach instead of Loeffler.  My guess is he would have replaced debord and probably been the head coach when Lloyd retired.

Hmm....

I'm not precisely sure what all's fueling this media back and forth, but I think we can assume that today harbaugh's on a plane or having lunch or driving home, or unpacking, or doing a million things besides whispering to 'sources' about which way he's leaning or not leaning.

I mean, has the guy actually said anything to anybody?  I'm as hooked on the he said/he said about this as anyone, but is there any reason to believe that anyone out there has any legitimate basis for their opinion?

If I could change jobs for the day today I'd love to work at ESPN being in charge of rounding up people to give idiotic opinions as to what Jim Harbaugh is going to do.

Co-Worker:  "Hey Glen, I just got Dick Vitale on the air, top that sucker!"

Me:  "Okay, wait for it, wait for it ... I got Cal Ripken going on in five"

Co-Worker:  "Criss Angel, bitch!"

Me:   "If I can get Oprah to return my call you're done.  Pack your bags, son"
