I'm told #MIchigan is currently exploring the possibility of signing former #Alabama OG Chad Lindsay, who is transferring from the Tide.

Why are we just exploring the option?  What possible reason is there for this NOT to happen if he wants to play here?

Is the idea of having experienced offensive lineman who understand and can execute blocking schemes no longer on our "things to do list?"

Why would anyone here know? Would you also like us to tell you his favorite color, the make and model of his first car, and whether he wears boxers or briefs?

This is why speculation about this type of development is so useless. If Chad Lindsay transfers to Michigan, you'll know that he's entering a grad program that Alabama doesn't offer. If he transfers somewhere else, you'll know when that happens, too. Otherwise, it doesn't matter. Just let it happen.

Lindsay started when the expected starter (Ryan Kelly) got hurt. Kelly is returning healthy for 2014. So yes, he's transferring at least partially for playing time.

But Lindsay also reportedly played very well when Kelly was out, so it's not like he was an end-of-the-bench scrub.

At center during the summer between Kelly and Lindsay which Kelly eventually won out. Lindsay is not some scrub but he was beaten out by a younger player. He would definitely start at center this year and allow Graham to be kicked back out to guard which would make me feel a heck of a lot better about our interior line this season.

a grad student with 22 yr old body and mind molded in bamas factory over several years definitely = instant competition here.  the dude may not be a pro or even better than um's current young interior OL but its another body to compete along the interior....and while not elite or dominant he did see clock at bama so hes an experienced body.  theres zero downside.  its a 1 year deal where um has schollys to burn anyway so really hope both parties are seriously considering and end up making this happen.  other than bringing in several JUCO OL or somehow grabbing a good OT transfer, adding competition to interior OL would be priority #1 on pretty much anyones wish list  (obviously not counting genetic freaks to dominate DL this year).  really hope this dude wants to jump on board and the coaches make it happen

bc bama runs a factory down there and they either told him to leave, asked politely, or he decided on his own after being told he has zero chance of playing this year.  thats how they do it down there.  oversign by 5-10 players almost every year and then somehow crookedly make it work.  um is one of rare schools (considered in big time category)  who typically bring back 5th yr seniors no matter the potential impact on the roster....but maybe theyre changing things up?...positive sign to see guys leave with their degrees like ash as it works for both parties, unless the dudes just want to ride the bench...um can better manage their roster and bring in extra talented recruits or explore transfer options if they go into every year assuming theyll let go most 5th years with little expectation of playing

A 5th year guy transferring out is nothing new and wouldn't even really be that sleazy if they didn't renew his 5th year. Hadn't happened here in a while because we haven't had depth but if you recall, Ryan Mundy transferred to West Virginia his 5th year. Might have had one or two more do it since then? I can't remember. Also, Mr. Ethical (aka coach Beilein didn't renew Mclimans' 5th year.

That hoke brought in the past dew years, what would be your take on the coaches bringing in some dude to play in front of you and take your snaps? I prolly wouldn't like it.

Isn't he slated to play center if he comes here? As I understand it, the only players who stand to be upset about this would be Jack Miller or Patrick Kugler. And frankly, Miller didn't perform that well in his shot as the center - and Kugler will still have 3 years of eligibility when Lindsay leaves after this year.

So I guess my answer is...meh?

Ignoring might be the wrong word.

I did, however, make an assumption that, since Glasgow would not qualify as a member of the "highly recruited" group, there would only be a layer of competition added to the other line positions.

All-told, if they can't play well enough to beat the other guys out, it shouldn't really matter how they feel.

My guess is that Glasgow would move to one of the guard spots. Lindsay is supposedly more of a center than an OG, but Glasgow is perhaps our best returning lineman. So once he serves his suspension for being stupid, he will likely be out there somewhere. He's also been playing LT in practices at times, but that seems like a stretch.

Yes, I agree. I was suggesting that Glasgow would be the one getting bumped from the starting line up, just that due to his versatility, it's not necessarily the Centers on our roster being impacted by this. Glasgow is or most experienced, and likely out best OL and can probably play 4 or 5 spots on the line. So if we're taking about which "touted OL recruit" this affects the most, it's likely Bosch or Kalis, but could be Braden as well.

But this is the big kids league and you need to produce to play. Although if you love a challenge you could really be motivated by the team trying anything and everything about your position. J-Mo took the challenge (in BB) by the horns and ran with it. As they say what don't kill you only makes you stronger and I really believe J-Mo is a lot stronger and ready to take on other so called "Bigs" who are supposed to give him fits in the near future with the confidence he has gained by taking that Texas steer out to pasture. One other thing I am worried that our O-line troubles will be rearing its ugly head because of the team trying this, but at the same time it could be unfounded because of Nuss's relationship with said player. he might see a opportunity to make Alabama wish they kept him on..
