CBS Sportsline Front Page: 'Remembrance of Tim' Slurpfest

Submitted by UNCWolverine on
Please, MAKE IT STOP! My god this kid can't go away fast enough. Is there another college football player that you can remember that couldn't graduate fast enough? From a college basketball standpoint pretty much any Dook point guard over the past 20 years fits that category. But I cannot remember feeling the same way about a football player until now.

It kinda sucks because he seems like a great guy, but the media forces you to hate him. They kiss his ass so much that I root for him to fail. Tom Brenneman last year in the NC game was the worst. "If you have the opportunity to spend 20 minutes with Tim Tebow, you're life is better for it"

The announcers at the UConn/Syracuse game mentioned this could be the last time you could see Greg Paulus on an athletic field. Just let that thought sink in for a second, and wipe that smile off your face.

Good stuff. That reminds me of when the sideline reporter at the MSU game interviewed Smoker and Duckett, asking both of them if they were going to take another shot at getting back into the NFL. Even Smoker basically started to laugh, I actually felt a bit bad for him to have to address that question on live television.

The love for Drew Brees, especially by Musberger, was pretty bad too. I remember one instance where he threw an awful pick, but made the tackle, and Musty thought it was the most amazing play he'd ever seen.

The most interesting development of the 2010 NFL draft will be despite the fact that Tebow will be rated about the 10th best QB available once the Combines are done (after Mallett, McCoy, Locker, Bradford, Pike, Clausen, Reesing, Lefevour, Joey Elliott, and I dunno, Juice Williams), some team like Jacksonville will draft him in the first round because of his 'leadership' and 'moxie' (and for ticket-selling in Florida). And, in 2012, he'll be the second coming of Jay Riemersma.

Over 90% of his TD runs were 5 yards or less. He is the inspiration for Terrelle Pryor's arm-punts. And look how well he's been passing this year under the tutelage of Scotty Loeffler. Not that well. He'll make a decent H-back, FB, or TE, but he will get eaten alive by the speed of the NFL.

By all accounts, Tim Tebow is a remarkable young man both on and off the field. I've got nothing whatsoever against the guy. It's the media's shoving him down our throats that has gotten to be so utterly disgusting. But beware! The Tebow tributes are far, far from over. Today is only the "Tebow's Last Home Game" show. Next week, we'll do it all again as we pay tribute to "Tebow's Final SEC Title Game." And of course, there's the MNC game on Jan 7, entitled "Tebow Does It Again." And just when you thought it was finally over with, there will be the ESPN Movie, "Tim Tebow: CFB's Greatest Legend" which will air ad nauseum sometime in February when ESPN only has basketball to talk about. On this weekend of Thanksgiving, I'd like to take a moment to give thanks for Michigan's stunning 2008 Capital One Bowl victory. Woohoo!

The ONLY reason I want Florida to win their bowl game is so that in 15 years on Jeopardy, I will see this: The only team Tim Tebow lost a bowl game to during his college career. And I'll smile when some cougar from Tupelo, KS provides the correct answer to the 87-year-old Alex Trebek.

Tyler Hansbrough seemed to squeeze 6 years into 4 at UNC. Also, Robert Vaden (IU/UAB Hoops) hung around a long time too. Nothing approaches Tebow-level annoyingness though.

I get annoyed as much as the next guy of how the media worships him, but c'mon! Guys like him come around once in a life time, and I don't doubt them calling him the greatest player ever because he very well might be. 2 national championships possibly a 3rd coming up, a 22 game win streak, a heisman trophy candidate 3 out of 4 years, what else do you want? He's a very talented person and not an asshole that promotes himself.
