Got word from Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville asst. Tony Overton that QB Cardale Jones is looking to set an OV to Michigan, but no date is set.

I don't know how reliable this gentleman is, but i thought it might be of interest to mention.
Recruiting staff, your thoughts and sources on this one?

Yeah, this has been in the works for awhile now. We'll see if it happens.(Insert Glenville warning here).
November 17th, 2010 at 2:01 AM ^
we are still showing interest in him. I wonder if the staff is thinking that Marquise Williams is a lost cause now.

Per yesterday's Charlotte Observer, his commitment to UNC is "firm". But the article does mention Michigan along with Va Tech and Maryland.

I think originally he was shaken by the USC sanctions and the onset of agent / black santa gate. The local press spins that chapter as noew closed: UNC removed some players and came clean with the NCAA, done.
What the local media is overlooking is the academic tutoring scandal is still ongoing. I think that one will close out relatively quietly though, so I'd expect Williams feel / be told "the coast is clear" and thus to sign with UNC.

I'd be quite shocked if Williams ended up at Michigan.

Glenville is a good school to have in the pipeline, if this works out.
They churn out bluechip talent pretty consistently.
November 17th, 2010 at 8:24 AM ^
The problem is, that talent usually goes anywhere but Michigan because the coaching staff is incredibly partisan against M. Glenville is a great pipeline of talent, but so far it has been a bad place to be a Michigan recruiter.
November 17th, 2010 at 11:07 AM ^
IIRC, the coach, Ginn (Ted Ginn's father) had a problem with Carr, not the university itself.
I don't think it means much as it's been quite a while since a Glenville recruit came to Michigan, but at least there's more of a chance now than under the previous regime.

Just lost on the playlets to St. Eds so the timing make sense. I always thought he looked like a player with a lot of potential. We will see though with the whole Glenville thing.
November 19th, 2010 at 10:19 PM ^
I was at that game last Saturday. He had a few picks, but played well. Ed's D-line was after him all night. He had two throws that we flat out amazing. One was a 50 yard bomb that he threw after getting moved out of the pocket.
He would be a great get for M.
November 17th, 2010 at 7:06 AM ^
Whether he'd end up playing QB or not, he'd be an outstanding addition to the class. Strange how OSU apparently is kissing Braxton Miller's butt and won't take a potential QB competitor from Glenville. (They did take former G-ville QB Troy Smith as an athlete even though they took highly rated Justin Zwick and that turned out to be wise.) Seems like Cardale would be a nice addition, as he'll undoubtedly want to prove himself against his home-state team.
November 17th, 2010 at 11:21 PM ^
When you say, "playing QB or not" what other position could he play?
November 17th, 2010 at 8:03 AM ^
Until Glenville shows us that they aren't just fucking around with us I will continue to say "Who Cares?"
They have done nothing to "repair" the broken pipeline either... they are at fault as much if not more than Lloyd was. And I'm not sure what Lloyd did was that offensive...
EDIT: Good info though, just my opinion about G-Ville.
November 17th, 2010 at 8:33 AM ^
What did lloyd do?
November 17th, 2010 at 8:50 AM ^
Supposedly and please correct me if I am wrong, but he basically had a Glenville recruit riding the bench (which like duh the Carr doghouse had many members), but the recruit knew he was more talented and knew he should be out there and told his coach at Glenville he was unhappy with the Carr treatment (may have transferred, not sure). Since then the Glenville pipeline has been Buckeye-centric. The coach is damn near a OSU booster.
Seriously correct any of this and add names if I am not accurate, but that is what I recall.
November 17th, 2010 at 8:56 AM ^
Wasn't it because he didn't recruit Ted Ginn, Jr?
November 17th, 2010 at 10:02 AM ^
Im pretty sure the negative relationship between the schools was because of how Ten Ginn Jr's recruiting played out with UM. From what I understand, we jumped in late with him and he had a sincere interest, but when he showed up for his visit he was virtually ignored by the staff and had to show themselves around (he and Ginn Sr.). Ever since then there has been a very clear steering of Tarblooders to tOSU. Im not sure about the Pierre Woods part...its possible, but Im not sure Ginn was coaching at Glenville at that point.
November 17th, 2010 at 3:42 PM ^
Supposedly Ginn was really after a M offer when he attended our camp, Carr didn't oblige.
November 17th, 2010 at 4:42 PM ^
I remember during the Mich/OSU game in Ginn's freshman year that Musburger talking about how Michigan wanted Ginn. I'm not sure why he chose OSU, but I remember Musburger saying that Marlin Jackson was put with GInn while he was visiting.

Pierre Woods
November 17th, 2010 at 9:15 AM ^
The player you're mentioning here was Pierre Woods. He didn't transfer, but didn't get nearly the playing time anyone thought he would at Michigan(he played in the Army All-American game and was a very highly-rated recruit). He was pretty talented-- his lack of playing time probably cost him a shot at getting drafted, and he still ended up playing four seasons for the Patriots. He even started a few games for them.
November 17th, 2010 at 9:54 AM ^
So they took it as a slight against the community, not a kid not working hard enough?
Thats a weird one
November 17th, 2010 at 8:23 AM ^
I'm confused. Are the coaches actively trying to piss off Kevin Sousa by recruiting another kid from a school notorious for f'ing with the M coaching staff? Really?
November 17th, 2010 at 9:26 AM ^
is a fickle business. You have to expect the best and prepare for the worst. Nothing is really set until signing day.
It never hurts to have a backup plan. In this case one of the back-up plans involves a school that M is looking to rebuild a pipeline with.
If Glenville does churn out blue-chips fairly consistently, then it would be foolish to ignore the school and it's athletes regardless of the past.
November 17th, 2010 at 8:37 AM ^
November 17th, 2010 at 10:25 AM ^
Sousa HAS to know that he is too raw for quick playing time virtually anywhere. I think M is a great place for him to hone his skills, if he does in fact end up there.

Recruiting is a slow dance, and just because we've been shut down of late, there's no reason not to keep on trying and to work on opening that door. All it takes is for one or two guys to make it here, and get the star treatment, and one or two guys from Glenville to get shafted at tOSU. You would see things change real fast. I believe RR will eventually get more of a chance, because he isn't connected to the Bo-Lloyd legacy chain of coaches.
November 17th, 2010 at 8:52 AM ^
I work with a guy that follows Wayne High School sports (Braxton's school). He says he gets hurt a lot.
November 19th, 2010 at 10:37 PM ^
....welcome to the Big Ten...
November 17th, 2010 at 9:15 AM ^
I though Glenville's head coach was Ted Ginn Sr. I know Carr had some bad blood with Glenville, but when a program sends gets your son drafted in the first round in the NFL (bust or not) I would urge/push players to attend that program. It will take time, once we start sending more players to the NFL, I think attractive pipelines will start to open up.

According to MGoRecruit
http://mgorecruit.blogspot.com/2010/11/glenville-teammates-to-visit-in.html
November 17th, 2010 at 9:25 AM ^
Though I'm glad Jones and apparently his teammate Shane Wynn are possibly coming up to UM for an OV, I'm a little upset with the Sousa situation. He's considered one of the top dual-threat quarterbacks for 2011, and I can see him becoming a beast after a redshirt and time behind Denard and Devin. The kid can play.
I guess we can use the pipeline in Glendale, but if we're going to go after QBs that are left, why aren't we pursuing Jacoby Brissett? Or Teddy Bridgewater? I hear that kid's thinking about decommitting to Miami.
November 17th, 2010 at 9:39 AM ^
It's entirely possible that the coaching staff knows what it wants in a QB more than you think they know what they want in a QB.
November 17th, 2010 at 9:44 AM ^
Has Brissett or Bridgewater shown any interest? Eventhough Jones is from Glenville, I think he visited for either MSU or Iowa and has come here for camps. I think Jones has interest, problem is I thought, and all the guys who follow recruiting closely feel free to correct me, he was more a passer first and not really a runner.
November 17th, 2010 at 9:54 AM ^
I'm not entirely sure that Jones is a good fit for this offense. His posted 40 times range from 4.55 on Scout to 4.9 on Rivals. I am more inclined to believe Rivals on this one due to the well-documented fudging of 40 times. One thing I will say, though, is the kid is one built son of a gun at 6-5, 220.
We shall see, I guess.
November 17th, 2010 at 10:00 AM ^
Glenville recruits visit each year to scout UM from the inside and then commit to OSU and report back.
Maybe we should start doing this with Cass Tech and Pahokee kids.
November 17th, 2010 at 10:23 AM ^
If they can manage to get one commit from Glennville for once, maybe it will open the door for others. It's just getting that one, is the key

MGoRecruit is saying he and Wynn could come up for "The big chill". It is crazy how many recruits are going to be at this game. Is that common to have a non-football game as your big recruiting weekend? You go to the hockey match and a football game might break out!
