Can't sleep, EMO, Sad

Submitted by BILG on

Feeling sad.  Love this team.  Not only were they stacked with talent but also a really good team with lots of guys willing to sacrifice for others.  The tournament is really cruel as 63 teams (actually 65 if you include the play in games) finish with a loss.

Still, to make such a deep run is rare and this team really had all the pieces.  We couldn't seem to catch a break tonight, with the fouls, bounces, basketball gods.  Just cant sleep and feeling super EMO sad.

Awesome year, great to hang up a Final Four banner, but if ever a team deserved a national title it was this one.

The older you get the more these things hurt. You know how fleeting these moments are. When you are young you feel immortal and view these moments as ever possible.

Stay young at heart, stay immortal in thoughts and stay immortal in a belief of the biggest dreams....and stay forever BLUE.

GO BLUE!!!

Wow, I thought I was the only one that experienced this.

I've been a avid Michigan fan since 1982.  I thought the older I got and the more established in life I got, the less I would care about silly things like Michigan sports.

But that's not how it worked out.  I've seen just how elusive events like our Torurnament run really are.  When I was much younger, I just expected that if it didn't happen now, it would happen just down the road.  Now . . . I'm not so sure.

I can't either. This probably belongs in the Refs suck thread but I don't care. The refs mis-assigning the Hancock foul only to see him pick up a foul on McGary completely changed the game. Every other bad call was a judgement call and missed in the heat and speed of the game save the kicked ball. Flat out mis-assigning a foul is inexcusable. I will never understand it.

but sad that shoddy officiating made the difference on the scoreboard. As the Burke block shows, it doesn't matter how great you play if the refs don't call the game fairly. I'm also sad that I won't get to watch this great team play together again.

But I will be lamenting Trey's block call. Players make plays down the stretch. That was an amazing play. But the call and the subsequent UM miss, led it to being a comeback situation, instead of the heavyweight 12th round spectacular that this game deserved.

Fight on my men, Sir Andrew said,
A little I'm hurt but not yet slain.
I'll just lie down and bleed awhile,
And then i'll rise and fight again.

To be honest, and as sad as it makes me feel, McGary, Hardaway, Burke, and Robinson are all probably gone next year. To get any of them back would be a victory in itself, but this is basketball we are talking about, and those guys deserve to go make the cash. I would probably do the same, probably.

in particular, already stated pretty emphatically that he was coming back. Not to mention I don't think he stock is high enough to seriously consider it, even after the way he played in the tournament. Personally I think the most likely scenero is two of them leaving (Burke and THJ or GR III), though unfortunately I could see Burke, THJ and Robinson possibly leaving. I think Burke is really the only one who is ready to leave, but obviously the players themselves may feel otherwise.

Definately a bitter sweet feeling at the moment. Obviously it was great ride and Final Four appearance is a huge step forward for the program, but man it does sting to come up short in the championship.I expect this team to be a Final Four contender, consistently, moving forward, but you never know how many of these oppurtunities are going to come along.

to come so close makes it hurt even more.  Those freshman all grew up fast in the tournament run, they are primed to take us back next year

BILG- I remember you from the Haloscan days. Hang in there. It was all gravy.

Oh, fuck it. I'm EMO as hell myself and can't sleep either. God fucking dammit.

but man we were jobbed in critical ways by the refs. I know calls even out over the course of the game, but some of the non-calls and horrid calls really dictated the outcome in Louisville's favor, very frustrating.

Also, how many times did the Cards throw up the most ridiculous lay-ups and somehow they managed to go in, some after a player travelled, but hey that's reffing for ya.

One more thought, the Fab Five being in the arena during the finals while playing or spectating has not been a lucky combo for us, just sayin'.

...just bad mojo. I didn't sleep well. The wife took the boy to daycare since I don't go in until 11 today...all that means is that I've got nothing to do but brood for the next four hours. Damn, this sucks. If more teams played the game like Michigan I'd watch a helluva lot more basketball. And now we get to see this team gutted as its stars flood the NBA (deservedly, but still...). Watching the hockey team lose in sudden death a couple years back was worse for me because it happened in an instant...last night's game was like watching someone drown after treading water for thirty-six hours...they just couldn't do it anymore and they didn't have anything left to give. Louisville just looked like they were never off their game. Very Roman in their calculation and execution. Bah. This sucks. ONE DAY Michigan is going to win one of these things. I don't know what sport it will be, but one day Michigan will play in a big game which will be fun to watch, and when it is over, they will be on the winning side of the score. One day.

And now the morning after. I hardly slept. Woke up thinking about the game and how close we were. As a loyal Michigan alum and fan, I sometimes regret my undying loyalty. Finishing second feels worse than winning would have felt good. Now I get to sit in a stupid airport lounge for hours hoping to make standby so I can go home and finish this miserable trip as fast as possible. Somehow, I know how that will turn out.

...the physical nature of the game was waaaay out of hand. Half of Patino's team should have fouled out of that game. L'ville was rewarded for their overly aggressive play and I'm sure Patino at halftime told his guys to get rough because he knew by then the refs wouldn't have the guts to call fouls.

The only minor criticism I had while watching during the 2nd half was our coach's decision to put Spike and Trey in at the same time. I understand the thought process, but they each need the ball in their hands to be effective. I sure didn't like it at the time.

In hindsight, the "basketbrawl" style of the 2nd half, some not-so-great decisions by our guys (Trey and Tim overplaying a bit) and our missed free throws cost us.

All-in-all, a nice effort, but we were mugged in the 2nd half.

Is the word that keeps repeating itself in my mind. Fuck, if the refs give us back 4 points (the goaltend that was not called and taking away Burke's clean block), maybe M pulls it out. Fuck, why can't we hit FTs? Fuck, why is Burke called for breathing on Louisville when two of their starters and Hancock should have fouled out? Fuck, why was Hancock so damn open so many times? Fuck, fuck, fuck! I am proud of this team, but this fucking hurts.

This game was decided by second chance points in the second half. You have to play above the refs and although there were bad calls against Michigan there also were some bad calls against Louisville. The bottom line is that we did not keep Behanon off the glass in the second half and that killed us. Offense scored the same number of points in the first half as the second half. McGarry's foul trouble was something we couldn't get past in the second half which led to poor rebounding and the game is over. However just because we didn't win the game does not mean these guys arent winners. Fantastic run and a fantastic team. The only question is whether the pain of losing in the finals is enough for Trey to tell his teammates he still wants to be a Michigan man one more year

But McGary was in foul trouble because the refs fucked up the call that should have gone on Handcock and got him out of the game, who then drew a 3 point foul that got McGary out of the game. If they don't blow a call a blind man could have seen their best player in the Final Four is out of the game, and our best player in the Tourney is in it.

This was a great season despite the outcome of the game last night. Of course, I'm slightly disappointed, but not truly sad. At the beginning of the season, I was looking forward to winning another B1G championship, so it was such a pleasant surprise for this team to accomplish so much, to even play in the championship game. I think they deserve another hero's welcome upon return to Crisler. Go blue!
