Bruce Feldman @BruceFeldmanCFB · 3m Iowa is a school to keep an eye on for former Michigan starting QB Cade McNamara. Will be interesting to see his next move.

Doubtful: Washington has Sam Huard (5-star, legacy, local kid). Previous starter Dylan Morris is also still on-campus.

If he heads West, I think UCLA is a better landing spot with DTR leaving. They have ex-UW QB Ethan Garbers, but Cade's resume would be pretty appealing to maintain the momentum.

That's...actually a good landing spot for both parties involved.

People keep saying this, but based on what exactly? This isn’t Iowa from a decade ago. They have a bad OL, no running game to speak of, and no weapons on the outside.

How on Earth is that a good landing spot for a QB like Cade that struggles to create on his own? Cade is a game manager that needs a solid supporting cast around him to succeed. He’s not going to get that from Iowa.

It’s “good for Iowa” in that he’s a clear upgrade over Padilla and Petras and the West is wide open. So an upgrade at QB and maintaining a strong D puts them in contention. But there are far better landing spots from Cade’s perspective that would better allow him to showcase his talents. Hell, just within the Big Ten he’d be better off at Illinois or Purdue.

Why do people all say this as if it is a fact? I actually seriously disagree. What Cade lacks is arm strength, so he won't succeed in an offense that wants to drive the ball downfield. That is exactly what a non-horrible version of Iowa's offense wants to do. They want to run the ball, then get downfield shots off play-action. Where I believe Cade would actually thrive would be in a pass first spread offense, that finds space by spreading the field horizontally instead of vertically. He has good accuracy, he is good at pre-snap reads, and he can get the ball out quickly. IMO Cade would succeed best at a school like Washington State, Purdue, etc.

I disagree. As great as he was for us, Cade's talents fit best in a spread offense that forces the defense to declare its coverage pre-snap and gives him a lot of receiving options. Note that last year we went five-wide (even though some of those receivers were split out TEs and/or RBs) in a lot of passing situations.

That’s not really disagreeing with what I said though. The two concepts aren’t mutually exclusive. You can be in both a spread offense that maximizes the good aspects of Cade’s passing game and be an offense with a good ground game and a solid defense.

My point is really that Cade needs to be somewhere with a good supporting cast. He’s not the kind of QB to create on his own and he lacks the arm talent to really carry an offense. Cade is a good QB, but he’s a QB that needs help. If you’re throwing him out there to pass the ball 35+ times per game, you’re probably not going to get great results. Pair him with a solid running game and play to his strengths and you can win a lot of games.

Harbaugh got his first starting QB from a graduate transfer from Iowa. That would be fitting, but I would imagine Cade would probably want to transfer to a school out west closer to home. Best of luck to him, and where ever he transfers to will get a damn good player.

Good luck to Cade.

If he EVER has to buy a drink or dinner in the state of Michigan I'll be incredibly disappointed. He deserves to be a Michigan legend for all eternity for what he did last year.

if Tuck is serious about changing the culture of MSU, I can't imagine a better way to do so than by bringing in this captain. This would never happen, and even if Cade won 9 games for that team he'd still be thought of as unclean, but part of me wants MSU to class up. I have MSU family members and would like them to have something to be proud of.
