Unless I am missing something or more was written or others are threatening this young man, hoping someone dies over a basketball game is an embarrassing and pathetic thought crime, not an actual threat.

Hard to police stupid in society, specifically with how much idiocy and hate is generated and perpetuated on the internet.

Last I checked, being an asshole/vile human is not a crime, or half of OSU fans would already be in jail.

Yeah, I think there's probably MORE people at OSU who would threaten the lives of college athletes because they didn't put the ball in the basket enough for their liking than some other schools, but UM absolutely has this element and it's disgusting.  Hell, Blake O'Neill got similar threats from people after the muffed punt (and yes, some were rival fans but a number of them absolutely were UM "fans").

I just came here to post this and the other screenshots to EJ.

i knew the interweb is full of spineless trolls hiding behind their phone or computer, but this shook me. He’s still a kid. I’m sure there are fans like this everywhere. But come on everyone, sports mean a lot, but don’t destroy a human over it.

I hope he learns the right lessons from this.

Yeah its not like like certain Michigan fans didn't do the exact same thing to Blake O'Neill after he muffed the punt against MSU. Oh wait, they did. There were people telling him to go drink a gallon of bleach and die. There are some terrible, god awful people in this fanbase as well. People who should never be given a platform or a voice to speak about anything.

I enjoyed watching OSU lose yesterday, but stuff like this goes way too far. I'm sure he knows people like this don't represent the entirety of OSU fans, but if I were him it would sure make me at least think about "Do I even want to come back next year?"

I sure as hell can't do the things these kids practice for any better than they can, so its tough for me to criticize them when they mess up.

For sure. My son umpired 8/9U machine-pitch rec baseball a couple of years ago and I stuck around every one of his games in case some parent starting popping off.  He missed a couple of calls but the coaches were cool about correcting them.  Now in his 12/13U league I heard some mom got banned a couple of games for too much chirping.

I never thought one way or the other about Frank Martin until I saw this video talking about refs and kids sports a few years ago.  When I'm overlord of the universe, I'm going to require every parent to watch it before they get to attend any of their kids' games. It's so damn good.

My kids are older now, in Jr. high and HS, but those 8u and 10u days were the worst. I used to sit away from ALL parents - my kids' teammates' parents and opposing parents because it was so embarrassing and made games so unenjoyable.

Long before social media, John Navarre had the experience of people bringing their kids with them to ring his doorbell and mocking him to his face when he answered the door. I honestly do not understand how he managed to not punch the daylights out of those assholes—it's a degree of self-control that I'll never have.

Athletes at this level are well educated about social media and the importance of staying off of it when coming to their schools. It will be interesting years from now to see the negative impact social media has had globally. The little Digital Brownshirts with their fascism and McCarthyism is interesting

It was a chokefest - pure and simple!

Even worse was OT, when down by 3, Washington had two double bonus free throws - and bricked them badly.

It was unreal - but glorious...

I was absolutely shocked when that final three point attempt from Washington didn't fall. Those are the shots he always makes.

Or at the very least, those are the shots he always makes against Michigan. Watching him chuck up threes against Michigan has been like watching Steph Curry shooting threes in a no-pressure practice session. You just know they're going in.

I chuckle nervously in the full realization that I have tossed a few people, in my nearly eight years of modding here, for doing this same thing in open threads.
