BREAKING: Michigan OC Josh Gattis is accepting the Miami’s offensive coordinator job, per source. The 38-year-old Gattis who helped the Wolverines to the Big Ten title in 2021, won the Broyles Award as the nation’s top assistant coach. Big addition for the Canes.

1. The wages of Harbaugh dalliance w nfl
2. Sounds like a lateral move. Why didn’t warde lock him down?
February 6th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
Lateral? Maybe 20 years ago. This is a clear step down.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
Not for the weather
February 6th, 2022 at 11:22 AM ^
....and lower taxes.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:28 AM ^
Or "scenery".
February 6th, 2022 at 11:14 AM ^
Sometimes peace of mind and change of scenery is worth a step back or sideways. And if the money is equivalent…not really much of a step back.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:31 PM ^
Yes. Gattis has been passed by one if not two in Jim's staff .
February 6th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
There’s obviously more to this story than just taking another coaching job.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:29 AM ^
My head is spinning.
And no, I'm not on Twitter.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:25 PM ^
Seems like the move of a disgruntled employee. If he wants to be a HC wouldn't he help that cause by coming back one more yr with that offense as opposed to starting over with Miami. I will guarantee whoever becomes OC at Michigan have a better yr than Gattis at the U. Cristobal is a bigger medley than Harbaugh
February 6th, 2022 at 12:38 PM ^
I'll bet you a cup of coffee he was told to find another spot to continue being an OC. I know some on the blog like Gattis. But Jim is happy that Josh got a job elsewhere.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:33 PM ^
Losing MacDonald (sp) was a negative.
Losing Gattis is not. He has been passed by Weiss and Hart.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:00 PM ^
I know saying this will get down votes, but this is a good day for Michigan football. Speed in space was an unfulfilled promise.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:55 PM ^
As good as the offense was this last season, there was always the lingering question how much of it was Gattis and how much Harbaugh.
At least we may finally find an answer to that next season watching Miami. I'm guessing it will be quite a revelation.
February 6th, 2022 at 1:59 PM ^
I want to agree, but I just can't. "Passed" in what sense? As a replacement for Harbaugh had he left? Even if that speculation was true, I don't see how him leaving isn't a big loss. Aside from Harbaugh, he's the primary architect our offense. He just won the Broyles Award, and we all thought he deserved it. It's not like he was a figurehead.
I feel like this board has been extra whiplashy lately, adjusting our opinions to put the best spin on developments the coaching carousel. It was only a couple weeks ago that we were talking about Gattis as a good replacement if Harbaugh left, and now this whole thread is full of people saying it doesn't matter that he's gone. I don't get it.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
Can ya blame him?
February 6th, 2022 at 10:54 AM ^
Yes, its a lateral move if not downgrade. I’m fine with him gone but this makes 0 sense on his part.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:01 AM ^
Unless it became apparent that he was not next in line if JH left.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:04 AM ^
We have little idea what the relationships and tensions were/are.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:35 AM ^
Bingo.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:41 AM ^
Double Bingo. Many are all here judging and opining based off of no real insider information. He is a grown man, I know not quite 40, making a decision that he views is best for him. Give it a rest people and if you can wish him well.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
Then take an HC job next year. He'd have his pick as this year's offense should be explosive. I doubt he'd have been less attractive next offseason. I also doubt that not being first in line for the HC job here has anything to do with him taking an OC job elsewhere.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:39 PM ^
This is on Jim
February 6th, 2022 at 1:07 PM ^
How and why, and based on whose info/sources?
EDIT: just saw the text. Still not sure how this is ‘on Jim’ though.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:23 AM ^
Yeah but it’s not like Cristobal is going anywhere else for years too? Don’t get it.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:21 AM ^
He clearly set this up when it wasn’t clear he had a job going forward. He probably doesn’t believe harbaugh isn’t just going to do this again, and/or didn’t feel like harbaugh communicated with him during this process and felt disrespected.
this is a direct result of harbaugh and all blame falls on him. It’s his job to make sure it doesn’t result in the team taking a step back
February 6th, 2022 at 11:24 AM ^
Well he probably got a nice bump in pay, no state income tax, and gets to recruit south Florida. Coral Gables is pretty nice in comparison to Ann Arbor this time of year too.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:34 AM ^
Other people’s decisions often make little sense to others because they’re not the person making the decision. If you’re Josh Gattis this decision is totally sensible by definition.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:36 PM ^
The writing was on the wall. He was told it would be a good idea to look elsewhere if he wanted to be an OC.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:40 PM ^
He didn't have a choice.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:08 AM ^
I don’t blame him.
Why in the Hell hasn’t Harbaugh signed his deal yet? Did I miss the news that he did? He should be signing his deal ASAP and doing all he can to lock down his coordinators and hire a DC.
The optics don’t look good. You have a head coach that is back at Michigan only because his preference fell through. He interviewed on National Signing Day. He has given a mountain of ammunition to his opponent’s coaches to negatively recruit. No DC. And now the OC / Coordinator of the year left to go to Miami which is / can be argued is a downgrade and not even a lateral move.
Harbaugh better deliver in 2022 or he is going to have to answer a lot of questions.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:10 AM ^
Do you ever stop acting like a petulant child?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
I LOVE that I live in your head. It makes me smile so big every time you reply to my posts. Seriously brings me so much joy. If you ever stop responding to my posts I will be a so bummed. I love knowing I occupy a spot in your brain.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
You two need to get a room.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:33 AM ^
I don’t even know the guy to say I don’t like him, clearly the dude has issues with me and doesnt like me. Do a search on my post history and you will see him making at least one character attack on me and responding negatively to my posts.
And PLEASE know, that doesn’t offend me one bit. That’s what message boards are for. To share opinions. If you don’t like what you read you can either “move along” or reply.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:14 PM ^
Lol. Continually personally attacking other posters is very mature.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:52 AM ^
Huh, didn't see that one coming.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
Let's hope this is as accurate as most of Feldman's clickbait. Wasnt he "Las Vegas is a done deal, plane flying JH to Vegas"?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:25 AM ^
"let's" = let us.
Nah, feel free to hope, most of us are moving on.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
It can't be because I am still moved by his speech where he was crying because JH took a chance on him.
He couldn't do that to the guy who gave him his chance. . . .
February 6th, 2022 at 10:53 AM ^
I think the prospect of the Big March Snow, which is typically more troublesome than the Big February Snow, is what scares off people sometimes.
In all seriousness, didn't see this one coming honestly. It will be interesting to see who we end up getting at OC then.
February 6th, 2022 at 10:55 AM ^
Gotta think it’s Weiss right? JH wanted to take him to NFL
February 6th, 2022 at 11:44 AM ^
I think that is part of the reason. Harbaugh probably told Gattis that Wiess was going to be co-OC. I don't think Harbaugh was happy with Gattis on his offensive game plan against GA, where he kept running into a brick wall. Oh well, rather him be gone then being unhappy here.
February 6th, 2022 at 12:34 PM ^
Well you kinda have to do that because you can't do certain things with a limited QB. But I also thought this was Weiss/Harbaugh offense more than it was Gattis? It that only the case when the offense doesn't look good?
February 6th, 2022 at 11:13 AM ^
I’ve spent much of my life in FL and South FL in particular. Been to Miami a lot. I’d rather live in AA any day of the week than Miami.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:15 AM ^
Even the day that gave you 12” of snow?
February 6th, 2022 at 3:09 PM ^
I think there are pros & cons between snow and falling iguanas, deadly snakes, alligators & every bug known to man.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:32 AM ^
That’s cool but I feel safe saying most ppl would feel the opposite.
February 6th, 2022 at 11:37 AM ^
Now that is true. LOL. I can see that.
February 6th, 2022 at 8:16 PM ^
I've lived in both and I agree.
