Brock Bowers has surgery on ankle

Looks like All American Georgia Tight End Brock Bowers has had surgery for a high ankle sprain. I'm not sure how long that would take for him to come back and no word yet on his recovery time.

Mertz is a fantastic example of an offense that knows exactly what its QB can do and doesn't task him to do anything beyond that.

For example, he was 25/30 against Kentucky for 244 yards and 2 TDs and a pick (so solid numbers) but then you see the highlights and he's throwing to the closest guy surrounded by 5 defenders and missing wide-open receivers on 4th down but inexplicably flicking the ball to a RB while falling down and you see his limitations.  I think Florida will be up in this game and Beck has some limitations that missing Bowers won't help cover up, but Georgia is still quite a bit better than this mediocre Florida team that really should probably be 4-3 and hasn't even played the tough part of their schedule yet.

Georgia will still be #1 even if they sleepwalk through another game.  But I am intrigued about this matchup.  Florida is a confusing team.  Looking awful against Utah and Kentucky but beating Tennessee and the comeback win against South Carolina.  If Georgia continues to fart around, they may have to win this in the 4th quarter.

Purdue vs. 2 is SP00KY

Eh, it lends itself to a cool nickname ("Spoilermakers"), but I feel like it's overblown. Of their #1/#2 upsets, only two have come in the last 39 years (the third most recent was 40 years ago last week). And only once in nearly 50 years has the upset come on the road, their 2021 win at #2 Iowa, who itself nearly deserves an asterisk. I mean that Iowa team wasn't bad, but their #2 ranking was a mirage based on wins over three teams ranked at the time (two in the top ten) that ended up finishing 7-6, 7-6 and 2-10. So not a complete fraud of a top-two team (remember 2007 when Cal, South Florida and Boston College reached #2, and Missouri #1?), but not that far off.

I play a doctor on Mgoblog.  It's probably an avulsion fracture, in which a small piece of the bone comes off at the base of the strained tendon, when there is a sprain.  Kind of like when you pull out a hair and the follicle comes out with it.  It's simple, not much different than a sprain in severity, heals quickly.  However, a high-ankle sprain needing surgery after week 7 certainly means he may not get back to 100% championship shape before the playoffs.  Huge loss for UGA.

Not a doctor but following a lot of Fantasy info.  They have surgical therapy now that puts a flexible band over the tissue to stabilize it to the bone while still allowing for full range of motion.  That's what I understand at least.  It actually decreases the amount of time needed to heal enough for play.

That's what I've seen on the interwebs and what my recollection tells me from witnessing other players I actually root for suffering the same type of injury.

That said, I'd bet he's pretty much done for the regular season. They have a bye this weekend then 5 more games. Optimistic view would be him coming back for @ #17 Tennessee. If not, no point in bringing him back for @GT imo.

Most realistically, they get him back for the SEC CG on 12/2.

But yeah, also the possibility that he nopes out for the rest of the year and just heals/preps for the draft.
