Braxton Miller speaks out on health, staying at OSU

Submitted by justingoblue on

Saw this interview a few minutes ago and thought some news that will actually affect a football game might be nice. I'm quoting Miller but Urban Meyer has some fluff as well.

Anyway, Miller on sticking with OSU despite competing against Barrett and Jones for a single spot:

I’m from Ohio, this is my home state. This is where I started and this is where I’m going to finish it.

Miller goes on to say he's healthy:

Strengthwise, I’m solid. I’m doing all types of exercises all the other (players on the team) are doing. I don’t have any pain, or aches, or anything like that. The only reason why they say I’m not 100 percent yet is a little bit (because of) the rotation in my right arm. But that’s going to come, by throwing the ball every day. That comes with repetition. Other than that, I’m healthy.

Does anyone have a strong opinion on which of Miller/Barrett/Jones winning their QB competition would be best for Michigan? It definitely looks like whoever wins the spot will be damn good, although a short leash might be something they have to deal with.

Awesome indeed, and the sadly hilarious thing about this chart is its generosity - Bauserman was in fact 1 for 10 for all of 13 yards. Rarified air, as there are few people through the years who can say that - by virtue of being next on the depth chart - they were the end of an entire passing attack. I don't think he ever saw a snap again.

I remember when Texas had Major Applewhite and Chrs Simms. On the outside it looks like a great problem to have. However, everytime the starting QB makes a mistake the fanbase starts chanting for thier replacement. Hopefully OSU will eat their own.....Hopefully.

A girl can hope that egos and pressure make all 3 play sub-par.

I think it makes sense for Braxton to stay at OSU. His NFL career is ikely to be very short and if he can still live nicely in Ohio after that (insurance, car sales...) If  he leaves OSU for another school, he will be branded a traitor and get no love from the OSU alums & fans.

I've gone on the record here several times about how crazy the fringe of our fan base is? Most notably several commenters at 11W. But basically the entire consensus, even from them, I've seen has been supportive of Miller and generally sad he got usurped (twice) due to injury. Nothing like painting an entire fan base with one brush. I will admit anything that is true. Because why lie? Who cares? Perhaps you assuming otherwise is a mistake.

"I haven't been posting things for a long time doesn't mean anything."

It does. When someone has a long documented history of posting, readers can safely assume their comments are insightful, relevant, timely, appropriately sarcastic or all of the above. On other hand, when someone has been posting for 13 days and makes inflammatory comments to someone that more closely resembles the former, one can safely assume they are a troll. Excuse my use of modern parlance.

"I have been reading this blog since basically the first year it was created..."

When someone uses the word "basically" and is not referring to the object's complexity or chemistry, one can safely assume the sentence in which "basically" was used is either false or a poor representation of the truth.

"...but that's besides the point."

I agree.

"He is an enemy and if you want to side with him go ahead, maybe you could apologize to him also."

Technically, he is a rival, not an enemy. An enemy will kill you given the opportunity. A rival is competing against you in pursuit of the same goals. I don't think Buckeye Jon Ross would take the life of any Michigan fan, but I do think he would rejoice if his team of choice were to claim victory over ours this year. Finally, I do not believe that  apologizing on behalf of someone else is an act of treason, but I am open to re-education.

He worked out at my gym a few times. I sized him up. I can attest that he is walking and his friends like to curl.
100% true.

Ezekiel Elliott recruiting profile on Rivals had him at a 4.42 40 coming out of high school. OSU has him listed with a 4.33 40 now.

During the Spring Game they hade the "Fastest Buckeye" challenge that pitted students against football players. Elliott won the race, but Braxton was literally only a step behind him.

I don't think it matters who starts for OSU. No matter who it is, that offense is going to be elite. They were elite last year, they don't lose much at all from it, and all three QBs have shown they can be great.

For The Game specifically I don't think it will matter either. By that point in the season whoever is the best QB will be starting, and odds are they will be a fantastic QB. Even if one struggles, there are two more waiting to take over and keep that offense going. It's going to be tough to beat them no matter what.

I guess if I had to choose one to start, I'd most want to face Jones. He has the smallest sample size and is the most one dimensional. He has an incredible deep ball and is a tank running, but he's not going to be breaking a ton of big runs which makes him a lot easier to gameplan for. If our secondary is as good as we hope it's going to be, then I'd want to face the least dynamic runner, which is Jones.

Since his sample size is so small, I feel like Jones is the one most likely to have played over his head in the past. It's possible he just had an incredible 3 game stretch that he never lives up to again, and if that's the case, it makes him the most likely to slip up and lead OSU to an early season loss like last season. That being said, if he did play over his head, odds are that will show up in practice and he won't be starting in the fall, and I wouldn't bet on saying he played over his head.

Miller is the most 1 dimensional in my eyes.  The other 2 are pass first guys who can move.  Miller is more like Denard without the upper end speed but probably better able to handle in between the tackles.

I would be shocked if Miller got the nod.  A passing QB who is mobile is way more scary to me than a running back masquerading as a QB.  UM fans have that data over the past 25 years to prove it - whose scarier? Tommy Armstrong or Dennis Dixon?

Also Urban could have sold that to Miller in terms of NFL future - look you wont be a NFL QB, lets work on ways getting you to the league at other positions.

His lack of mobility makes him much easier to defend.  However, I think Miller will start and they will redshirt/medical Barrett unless and until Miller goes down.

I've got Barrett > Miller > Jones, but that's just me and not based on anything other than seeing whatever I did of their games the last couple years.

Those last three games were huge, but I don't think Jones can keep his stat line going. If he was consistantly that good he wouldn't have been third on the depth chart last year.

I just watched little tykes for the first time. I'm really learning some good coaching tips for my daughter... (bullshit) but I can't...stop...watching this show. Where was I?? Oh ya. Quit being a soft. I am sick and tired of having to be soft. Fuck the Buckeyes and fuck the three stooges they have in their arsenal. Go Blue!
