BOWL SEASON KICKOFF!

Submitted by crg on
I don't care what some may say - bowl season is perhaps the best time of the year (with the opening week of college football being a very close second). A large number of games, nearly all of them good (or at least worth watching), almost every day over the next few weeks (most of which will be over holiday vacation or slow times at most workplaces). Add in bowl-pools and it becomes even more interesting. Plus, one last time to watch UM play a meaningful game before the long dark of the off-season. Enjoy!

I think Michigan needs two football teams. One fall team and one spring team. Two seasons of football. You could have different rules for spring teams with gameplay and recruiting, to compare results and innovate with the game.

Sorry, I was more excited for Michigan vs Florida to open the year than I am North Texas vs Troy.

Same for Michigan vs Notre Dame to open next season. There's about 8 bowl games between ranked teams that are notable.

Don't get me wrong, I'm going to watch the shit out of these games. They just don't carry the same weight for me.

Most of these bowl games are pretty pathetic.

That being said, I can be pretty pathetic this time of year :P

And what a bonus...We get the Lions/Bears @4:30 today.

Bad football lovers unite.

Is still my personal gold standard for sports (and not the damn play-in games), but Bowl Season is pretty damn awesome. Sprinkle in some M hoops today and we have ourselves a good day of sports ahead of us. I guess you can throw in the Lions if you’re a sicko like me who still holds a glimmer of hope that they’ll do something special eventually.

Being a college professor (not at Michigan.. yet :)) i have a lot of down time from now until the 2nd week of January, so I eagerly await bowl season. I might not watch a lot, other than the good guys, but it's nice that I know it's there. I just started the new Brandon Sanderson book and let me tell you, it's a thick one, so that will keep me busy. I'll also be building a large model train set to put around the Christmas Tree. Lots of eggnog in my future haha.

Why yes I am, graded for about 72 hours straight after my last class Tuesday (very little shuteye involved). Oathbringer has been calling my name for about a month, so I had to get the grading out of the way. Grading can crush the soul my friend, so good luck to you.

Meh. Glad some others can enjoy it. If they were all playoff games I would be interested but normally the good bowl games are from a few days after Christmas on. My level of excitement for college football usually goes something like this:

1. Michigan vs MSU/OSU

2. Michigan vs. ND/PSU/Wisconsin

3. Michigan vs. good national OOC teams

4. Michigan bowl game

5. Rest of the Michigan schedule

6. College Football Playoff (without M in it obviously or it would be #1)

7. Other good national matchups (ex. Iron Bowl, Rivalry weekend, opening weekend, etc)

8. Other good bowl game matchups (NY6 outside of Playoff and Michigan)

As if 3 playoff games have made all bowls irrelevant. Damn it I go to turn on first take or something with Skip Bayless and instead I get a bowl game. Ugh. The fact that they are on and im not watching upsets me. Do you all know the chances someone might play the Percy Harvin role in one of these games? That at least is worth something right?

So wait, how was that not grounding by Oregon? Even if you argue he was out of the pocket there was no one remotely in the area. Doesn’t that have to be out of play to just throw away?

Lol, may have been mentioned above but hilarious that it's Davis and Herbstreit calling the Las Vegas Bowl. I'd imagine T
This is not a game many are watching and it's ostensibly ESPN's "A" crew.
